Speaking In Tongues

That's on the line of my reasoning. Tongues is very Biblical as a gift and probably many have that gift!

Though it genuinely must be an awesome way to personally communicate with God, Paul was adimate about it was not the best way to edify the Church.

Nowadays, I'm only left with thought that if someone goes to Pentecostal Church, and can't Speak in Tongues, that they may leave not feeling saved?!
I've written an article on this subject from a Biblical perspective. Here is a link, Spiritual Gifts

Where does the Bible say this?
You disagree?...why @ B-A-C , that is shocking!!!...and you such a "THUMPER "!
All of 1 Corinthians 13

LOVE never ends
LOVE endures all things

So, faith, hope and love abide but the greatest of these is love.

Why? Because it endures all and the only one in Eternity!

@ B-A-C, you don't find always find scripture that is exact...sometimes God wants you to put two and two together!

Read your Spiritual Gifts PDF on your link - strongly disagree with your "theology" there - typical cessationist material.

1Corinthians 13 last verses uphold the truth that these human needs will cease when we rise up to meet Jesus and to be forever with him -
1Cor 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13:13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
for when we are transformed and are with Jesus then we will no longer need hope and faith.
1Cor 13:8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
prophecies and speaking in tongues and human knowledge will cease when we are no longer here on Earth as mere humans - but knowledge has not ceased so this obviously does not refer to the mistaken cessationist
belief that all will cease when the Bible comes available [which happened when??]

No need for Faith, because you hung in their and reaping the benefits.

No need for Hope, because it has been realized.

The only one left is love, which endures forever!

BTW, that was not my PDF but thought it pretty good!

Hi Waggles,

The PDF is mine. Paul's contrast of seeing through a glass darkly with seeing face to face, contrasts two states of being. He's not saying when we see Jesus face to face. He doesn't even mention Jesus. He's contrasting their polished metal mirrors that weren't particularly clear with seeing someone face to face which is quite clear. It's analogous to prophesying in part and knowing in part with having full knowledge.

As I pointed out in the article, Paul uses Greek words that indicate that tongues will cease of it's own accord. Tongues ceasing is not tied to 'that which is perfect'. It would cease of it's own accord. As we see in Isaiah, tongues was for a sign against Israel. It was the rest. It was the Gospel message. These nations speaking in tongues were a sign to Israel of the judgment in Isaiah 28 and 29.

Prophecies and knowledge would cease when the maturity or completion came. The question is, what is the maturity or completion? Well, what was in part? It was God's message. Jesus told the apostles before He ascended that He had many more things to say to the them but they could not bear them at the time. He told them when the Comforter comes He would guide them into all truth. So, the question becomes, did the completion of that message occur. According to Paul and Jude it did. Paul told the Ephesian elders that he had declared to them the whole council of God. Jude told his readers to contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints.

The face to face is analogous to seeing God face to face, which the Jews were particularly afraid of.

But the Bible is referring to a time in the future ,after our physical death, when Belivers are perfected and glorified in the presence of God, when we will finally see him face to face and know Him as well as He knows us!

I don't think that's the case. He doesn't mention Jesus at all. The face to face statement is contrasted with seeing through a glass darkly. Paul didn't have all of the message right from the start. He learned it over time as the other apostles did. In the beginning it was in part, or unclear as seeing through a glass darkly. However, by the end he had the full message of God, it was clear to him. Now it was like seeing someone face to face. It was clear. The polished metal mirrors they had blurry and unclear. Seeing someone face to face is clear and not blurry

You actually have to be a Spirit-filled Pentecostal believer to know what the scriptures are about.

What verse says that?
1Co 2:9 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
2:10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
2:11 For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
2:12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.
2:13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
2:15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.
2:16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

I don't see anything there a out being Pentecostal.

The scripture you cited applies to every born again believer in Christ, not just your Pentacostl Charismatic movement.

So, what do they say to you?!
Mark 16:15 And he [Jesus] said to them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
16:16 Who hath believed and is baptized shall be saved; but who hath disbelieved shall be condemned.
16:17 And these signs shall follow them that have believed: in my name shall they cast out demons, speak with tongues;
16:18 and in their hands they shall take up serpents, and if they drink aught deadly, it shall in now wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Sorry, I thought I was talking to @Downunder and that was no where near the verse I was referring to?
