Who was Jesus, before Being Jesus?

Who was Jesus before being Jesus was the question.

The answer is given in The Bible scripture. He was; The Son of The man !
What man? How did that come to be?
Indeed; what a story in Itself !

Mary's genealogy is located in Luke 3:23–38.
No it isn't Bill. I BEG you to read the text of Luke again.

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

Absolutely Nothing is said about Mary. NOTHING. Joseph was the son of Eil (and so forth). Why would you add in words? Why would you push Catholic mythology? Why would you change what is written?

The Luke community traced the lineage of Joseph (the "supposed" father of Jesus) back to Nathan because Nathan was a Prophet, and they believed Jesus to be a prophet.

The Matthew community traced the lineage of Joseph through Solomon, or else how could Jesus be King?

There is a question as to who was the son of man. As usual; the answer is given in The scripture.
"Son of man, stand on y8ur feet, I am sending You to The House Of Isreal."
Who then was to stand on His feet? The One who was not then standing on His feet; that is, living in the flesh.
Who then was that ?

Who was The Son of MAN (The Man) ?
Consider what occurred in Genesis when Eve partook of The Fruit Of THE TREE, in The Garden Of Eden.
It was Eve, that first partook of That Fruit ! Then Adam also partook of It.
The question is then: What was The Fruit? Indeed, hidden here is as DEEP STORY in Itself.
And The Lord God
First, I ask this question to cause those reading This article to THINK!
The fruit was not a literal piece of fruit, from a literal Tree! The fruit which She partook of; and then Adam also, was the fruit of Satan!
Let Me give the following verse from Gen 3:14-15..

And The Lord God said to the Serpent, Because Yu have done This, YOU are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field: and upon Your belly shall You go, and dust shall You eat aa the days of Your life.
AND I will put enmity between You and The Woman, and between Your seed and Her seed: It shall bruise Your head, and You shall bruise
His heel. (Webster Bible).

There is a lot to consider in this text ! It covers the time from the occurrence of Eve's sinning, to the End. All This also fills in much of what is generally not taught in Todays' churches!

Consider closely what had occurred at That Time. Now consider also what occurred after Eve's transgression of Jehovah Elohim's command to Them to not partake of That fruit.
THE LORD GOD (Jehovah Elohim) said to The Sepant, BECAUSE YOU HAVAE DONE THIS, YOU are cursed ABOVE ALL CATTLE, and ABOVE EVERY BEAST of the land: Upon Your belly (in lowness of stature) Hou shall go, and dust (lowest part) shall You partake of, ALL THE DAYS of Your life.
The above opens up even a deeper story which I will not enter into here.

I will put enmity between Yiu and The Woman, and between her seed and Her seed: IT shall bruise Your head, AND You shall bruise HIS heal.
What follows This should be read by The Reader also; but I stop here.
All This was a part of The Elohim's plan from The Begining. It did not occur as an accident! Conser closely what happened between Cain and Abel. Then consider who, The Son Of Man really was.

All that which is given above should make the serious student of The Bible text to understand in depth the total plan of The Elohim in The Bible.
Much, much more could be stated about This Genesis event; however. That would take a Book to do so. I have given some thought to Write such a book.

It is hoped that This short Writing will help many to understand in more depth what took place at This event.

That is a lot of convoluted monologue to say nothing of meaning.

Well ! I am disappointed in .I have seen here so far. Why? Because I have been seeking a Room in which deeper things could be discussed. For example: Who was Jesus, before Being Jesus ? ?

Does This get attention?
Before Jesus was Jesus—the man born in Bethlehem, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger—He was the eternal Word (Greek: Logos), the very self-expression of the invisible God (John 1:1). He was not yet flesh, not yet the Son, and not yet the Messiah in human form, but He was the fullness of divine intent, wisdom, power, and revelation. This Word was not a second person beside God, but was God Himself—His mind, will, and voice. As John wrote, “the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” That means the one we now know as Jesus preexisted not as a man, not as a celestial spirit being with a separate will, but as the invisible God’s own eternal self-expression—the Light that was always in the world, even if the world did not yet recognize it (John 1:9–10).

When the fullness of time came (Galatians 4:4), that same eternal Word was made flesh (John 1:14)—not a heavenly Son descending into a human body, but the invisible Spirit of God robed in human form, becoming the Son through the miracle of incarnation. Thus, before being Jesus, He was the Word. Before being the Son, He was the eternal God, preparing to manifest Himself in the only way humanity could truly see Him. He was, is, and forever will be the unchanging, indivisible One—the same I AM who spoke from the burning bush to Moses (Exodus 3:14), now made visible in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Since it cannot be the genealogy of Joseph,...
Why?
Why can't it be the genealogy of Joseph?
The text LITERALLY SAYS - the son of Joseph, son of Heli, son of Matthat... etc. so how can it not be the genealogy of Joseph?

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,
- Luke 3:23-24 KJV

You claim it cannot be the genealogy of Joseph, but the Bible says otherwise... Read again, "the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heil, which was the son of ..... etc."

How can you dispute that the name JOSEPH is written? Where is Mary mentioned at all?

Might your Bible actually read differently?

C'mon Bill. Be honest here and please give me an answer. in Luke 3:23 does your Bible read "the son of Joseph"? Or does it read "the son of Mary?"

please, oh mighty knower of all,
Really Bill? Do we really need the snark here? I'm simply asking you to read the actual words without changing them.

whose genealogy is it,
It's Joseph's genealogy, because that's what the Bible literally says...

Matthew gives a genealogy of Joseph and Luke gives a genealogy of Joseph. And neither could be the biological genealogy of Jesus IF Joseph had no part in Jesus' conception. It might be a legal genealogy, of Jesus, but both literally state Joseph was the father.

LUKE: Jesus himself... being... the son of Joseph
MATTHEW
: And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary,

It's not about ME being some mighty knower of all, it's about YOU being truthful to the words that are written down.

Perhaps your Bible reads differently? (I don't know, since I don't have your Bible) It's an easy and simple question and I would truly be grateful if you could answer it. We can't even move on past this point if you and I are using different words.

why is it there?
I think we need to have an honest agreement about what the "it" is before we could discuss the why.

Bows, salutes, and crawls away.
No. You do not get to turn condescending and crawl away. I'm trying to have an honest conversation with an honorable person (meaning you). Can we possibly bury the hatchet and agree that both genealogies pivot on Joseph?

Then we could discuss the possible whys, if you wish.

Would your Ruah want you to misrepresent the words as they are actually written down? I believe that both you and God are truly too honorable to let that happen.

White flag truce...

Doesn't the text of Luke give the genealogy through Joseph?

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

Can you not see the two are in conflict?

So then Modalism, rather than Trinity.
No! Calling the belief that “the Word was God Himself” Modalism is both inaccurate and dismissive of the very nature of biblical revelation. Modalism is a specific heresy that teaches God is one Person who merely acts in three roles—Father, Son, and Spirit—sequentially and never simultaneously, like an actor wearing different masks on a stage. It denies the coexistence of God's manifestations and implies God stopped being the Father when He became the Son, and stopped being the Son when He became the Spirit. That is not what I believe, nor is it what the Scriptures teach.

Instead, I affirm Oneness theology, which upholds that God is one eternal, indivisible Spirit (John 4:24; Deuteronomy 6:4), who has revealed Himself in various ways throughout history—not as three persons, but as one God making Himself known. When John says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1), he is not introducing a second divine person. He’s identifying the Logos—the Word—not as a separate personality, but as the very expression or self-revelation of God’s eternal being. In Greek thought, "Logos" meant reason, logic, or discourse. In Hebraic thought, it meant God in action, speaking and revealing. The Logos was not a distinct person standing beside God—it was God, and always was with God because it was God Himself in self-expression.

When the Word became flesh (John 1:14), God did not send a second person of a divine trio. He manifested Himself in flesh (1 Timothy 3:16), dwelling among us not as a representative, but as Emmanuel—God with us (Matthew 1:23). The Son did not exist from eternity past as a second person in the Godhead. What existed was the eternal Spirit, the Logos, the plan and purpose of God to dwell among His creation—and in the fullness of time, that plan became a living man (Galatians 4:4). The Son had a beginning in time, born of a woman, made under the law. But the Spirit in Him was eternal.

Colossians 2:9 says it best: “For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” Not one-third of the Godhead. Not a person of the Trinity. But all the fullness—the totality—of what God is, made visible and tangible in Jesus Christ. When Jesus spoke, prayed, or submitted, He was doing so as a true man—as the Lamb, the mediator, the intercessor. He wasn’t talking to another divine person in heaven. He was praying in the fullness of His humanity to the eternal Spirit that filled Him without measure (John 3:34).

To label this Modalism is to miss the beauty of the mystery of godliness—that God was manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). The Bible never says God the Son came down—it says God Himself came down and took on human nature. The Son is not eternal as a person, but as a purpose—the redemptive manifestation of the eternal God.

So no, this is not Modalism. This is not the Trinity. This is the biblical revelation of the one true God, eternally Spirit, made known through the man Christ Jesus—the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). One name. One God. Forever.

No.

The text does not say that. In Matthew 1; it is seen that JOSEPH was a descendant of the seed line of David.

And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
- Matthew 1:14-16 KJV

How is this not self evident?

Thanks,
Rhema
I would offer .

One mistake many make is with the word seed (singular) The spiritual "Let there be" good seed of the husband

Galatians 3:16Now to Abraham and his seed (gospel) were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many(DNA) but as of one(spiritual) , And to thy seed, (invisible spiritual) which is Christ.

Galatians 3:29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the (unseen) promise.

The second birth the born again seed. The seed that Onan spilled out as a ceremonial law a sign to the world or Esau sold his firstborn rights for a cup of hairy goat stew both seeing no value in the born again seed.

Genesis 38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed (spiritual invisible) to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

it began when Adam and Eve named the firstborn Cain meaning acquired possession in false pride thinking he would lead them back into fellowship in there time zone. The second born Abel meaning vanity teaching them the must walk by faith as the unseen things of Christ the Faithful Creator .

Then again to emphases. . . . marvel or wonder not mankind must be born again He used the second born Eons to represent the seed . it was passed down to the second born al the way until David David the 8th to represent beyond perfection 7.

Again the foundation (you must be born again)began with Enos

Genisis1:25-26nbsp;And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.

Can you not see the two are in conflict?
Can you not see that BOTH say JOSEPH?

Why would you lie about that?

Forget the conflict for now. Both gospel texts say Joseph, the father (supposedly) of Jesus.

LUKE: Jesus himself... being... the son of Joseph
MATTHEW
: And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary,

BIll, doesn't Luke say "Jesus himself... being... the son of Joseph"?
(Yes or no. It's not a hard question.)

And doesn't Matthew say, "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary" ??
(Yes or no. It's not a hard question.)

Again, forget the conflict for now, what do the texts ACTUALLY SAY?

Let me try a different way.
Please compare what I'm posting with your physical Bible.

Is this verse in your Bible written the same way?

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
- Luke 3:23 KJV

And is this verse in your Bible written the same way?

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
- Matthew 1:16 KJV

I don't know if these two say the same thing in your Bible, since I cannot physically read YOUR Bible.
That's why I'm asking.
All I'm looking for is an honest answer from an honorable person to the questions I've underlined above.

If you could be so courteous as to check,
Rhema
(And an honorable person would NOT change the words.)

No! Calling the belief that “the Word was God Himself” Modalism is both inaccurate and dismissive of the very nature of biblical revelation.
It would seem that I forgot to use a question mark. So then, not Modalism (period).

Modalism is a specific heresy that teaches...
Thank you, I know what Modalism is. (Others might not though, so again, thank you.)

Oddly enough I keep running into Evangelicals who actually preach Modalism but call it Trinitarian since there are three modes (go figure).

sequentially and never simultaneously,
I have GOT to fix that Wikipedia page (ah, I see someone did). There is no mention of this specific provision in what Sabellius wrote (or more accurately what was written about him), as can be seen HERE. You might wish to review the source of that information.

It denies the coexistence of God's manifestations and implies God stopped being the Father when He became the Son, and stopped being the Son when He became the Spirit. That is not what I believe, nor is it what the Scriptures teach.
Nor does Modalism teach that. Now I'm curious as to the source of your information.

I affirm Oneness theology, which upholds that God is one eternal, indivisible Spirit (John 4:24; Deuteronomy 6:4), who has revealed Himself in various ways throughout history—not as three persons, but as one God making Himself known.
Just wondering if "Oneness theology" means the same thing as "Oneness Pentecostalism."

Now the phrase "God making Himself known" might also refer to a volcano going off, or a star seen in the sky, maybe even a bush that burns but is not consumed, so... I'm not sure that helps to clarify. (Unless that's exactly what you mean.)

I should mention, though, that I am one of the few non-Trinitarians on this website which is rabidly Trinitarian, and quite touchy about it, so we'd best tread lightly.

Now in saying that God is one eternal, indivisible Spirit, does this deny individuated sentient consciousness? In other words, can this Spirit be a person?

Is God a person? (Need I say a non-human person?)

In Greek thought, "Logos" meant reason, logic, or discourse.
Well I speak Greek (or more accurately read Koine Greek) so I'm come to realize that the best English gloss for LOGOS is "TEACHING" although "PATTERN" is also acceptable in certain cases.

I don't think anyone can understand the Gospel named John unless one has read Philo. And brutish English translations shred the nuances of Greek in John 1:1.

When the Word became flesh (John 1:14), God did not send a second person of a divine trio. He manifested Himself in flesh (1 Timothy 3:16), dwelling among us not as a representative, but as Emmanuel—God with us (Matthew 1:23).
We are close in belief here. BUT... (Isn't there always a but?)

A few simple question that I would politely ask you to answer....

1) Is the Father a person (or has specific qualities of what we would call a person - i.e. individuated sentient consciousness)?

2) Is Jesus (as a physical flesh and blood human) a person?

3) Are these separate persons?

he is not introducing a second divine person. He’s identifying the Logos—the Word—not as a separate personality, but as the very expression or self-revelation of God’s eternal being.
Please don't be offended, as these are merely questions. (I did say please.) But doesn't that render Jesus as a mere sock puppet of God, or a biological robot of God? Dare I say a flesh puppet?

I guess that we're back to the same question as to whether the person known as the Father is the same person known as Jesus. And if they are the same person, how come one can't say that the Father is a "mode" of the same person aka Jesus?

The Son did not exist from eternity past as a second person in the Godhead.
I can agree with that. I wasn't a Father until my son was born, and my son wasn't a son until he was born.

The Son had a beginning in time, born of a woman, made under the law. But the Spirit in Him was eternal.
Unfortunately that completely evades the entire concept of what a person is, and whether Jesus was a person, and whether the Father is a person as well. It also begs the questions do humans have a spirit in them, and is this spirit non-eternal?

So.. (and I'll remember to use a question mark since I'm asking a question) ... was (or is) the Father a person?

But the Spirit in Him was eternal.
At this point, we've quickly bounced over into the "What the heck is a Spirit" whirlwind. Did Jesus have this "Spirit" thing that is not to be found in any other human being? OR, (as I anticipate you to say) Jesus was in his entirety, human just as any other human would have been if the Fall had not occurred? Meaning, a human without sin, just like Adam, save that Jesus was born.

This leads to the question was Jesus a human or a human-plus?

He was doing so as a true man
Ah... Okay, THANK YOU. I think you answered that last question. Jesus was fully human without any special "powers" that any normal human (before the Fall) would have had.

the totality—of what God is,
Certainly the TOTALITY of what God is can't ALL become human, or he wouldn't be human and would likely die or blow up or something, SINCE:

And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
- Exodus 33:20 KJV

I would say that all of God that could become human did so, and we know him as Jesus.

He wasn’t talking to another divine person in heaven. He was praying in the fullness of His humanity to the eternal Spirit that filled Him without measure (John 3:34).
So then the Father is not a person? Or was Jesus talking to a divine person in heaven?

I would think that any human who prays does so in the fullness of his own humanity (even if fallen), but if Jesus was praying to his own "eternal" Spirit, then wasn't he just praying to himself?

To whom was Jesus praying, then, if not the Father?

Or are we at the point where one is to consider that the "eternal Spirit" is a person?

I Greatly Thank You for enduring my questions. I ask in sincerity and with the hope that your answers will provide me with some insight.

Kindly,
Rhema

Can you not see that BOTH say JOSEPH?

Why would you lie about that?
Now you stoop to childish ignorance and call me a liar? You
must surely be older 72 months of age... no. The two genealogies conflict and cannot be the lineage of the same person.

Surely you can answer and I feel certain you do not believe Mary's betrothed was the only man named Joseph.

Now you stoop to childish ignorance and call me a liar?
You being offended like a child is rather ignorant. It's called avoidance.

Please try and read what I wrote. "Why would you lie like that?" IS A DANGUM QUESTION. And it's also besides the point.

Surely you can answer and I feel certain you do not believe Mary's betrothed was the only man named Joseph.
So Jesus had two daddies named Joseph? Absurd.

I thought you were an honorable person, but you did not answer honorably. Now I know better.

You don't have a right to change the words. It's a sin to do so. Be very careful about that.

Both Luke and Matthew give a genealogy of Jesus through the exact same JOSEPH.

Nothing in the Bible says the genealogy in Luke was that of Mary. It was of Jesus and Joseph. And to say otherwise IS a lie. It's deception. It's a sin.

Deal with it,

You being offended like a child is rather ignorant. It's called avoidance.

Please try and read what I wrote. "Why would you lie like that?" IS A DANGUM QUESTION. And it's also besides the point.

So Jesus had two daddies named Joseph? Absurd.

I thought you were an honorable person, but you did not answer honorably. Now I know better.

And yes, one IS A LIAR if one ADDS in words to the Bible. So ... are you a liar?

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
- Matthew 1:16 KJV

Tour point is nuts and senseless. You try to intimidate a three-combat-tour veteran with pointless drivel? You did not address my point at all. Scared?

Scared? By someone who refuses to admit what is actually written in the Bible? Hardly. Sorry to disappoint, Bill, but that whole "three-combat-tour veteran" bluster has passed its prime. But let's see if you can focus here, and look at the simple questions that I asked FIRST.

Does this verse name the father of Joseph the husband of Mary?

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
- Matthew 1:16 KJV

(Yes it does. Jacob is the father of Joseph - according to Matthew.)

The next simple question is this - Does this verse name the son of Joseph?

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
- Luke 3:23 KJV

(Yes it does. Jesus was the son of Joseph (as was supposed) and according to Luke, the father of Joseph was Heli.)

BOTH genealogies, Matthew and Luke are about the same Joseph. There's no random Joseph from east jabip mentioned in the gospels.

Jesus, the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the husband of Mary.

Again, the simple questions you need to admit...

IS IT WRITTEN that Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary?
(Yes or no?)
IS IT WRITTEN that Jesus was the son of Joseph (supposedly)?
(Yes or no?)

Now are YOU scared of giving a true and honest answer?

Dear Brothers, @Rhema @th1bill
Please stop the back and forth that appears to only agitate each other more and does nothing in getting to the understanding of the topic of genealogies of Jesus found in Scripture that you both were addressing.

If you must, agree to disagree, and let others continue with trying to discuss this in a civil manner. It would be greatly appreciated.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
