Should Christians own weapons?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Read the verse again it says , he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip, he that has no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. Why would he say take your scrip and if you have no sword buy one.
Never the less we need be learning how to hear the voice of the Spirit of God that we can follow after the Spirit of the Word for it is written the letter kills but the Spirit brings life.

Paul a Christian did not carry a weapon as we know of, Paul did not use a weapon as we know of. Paul was persecuted for the name of Jesus Paul walked like Jesus, should we follow the example? Jesus and Paul did not carry a weapon.

Again the question is should a Christians own a weapon?

I understand what you are saying

Perhaps my point is that there is no definite answer to the question 'should a Christian own a weapon', which applies to every believer. Those who are, or who are to be a part of the Body of Christ will each have his function, but those functions will not all be the same:

"For the body is not one member, but many." I Cor 12:14

"If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him." I Cor 12:17-18

Howard, your erratic postings show very little self-control. The fruit of the Spirit includes self-control. Shotgunning a million scriptures (many out of context) in a frantic manner is also an unwise manner to reprove, if you really feel called to reprove on this matter.

Also, implicating God in the evil of this world is a very wicked notion you need to repent of. I say this in love. God is light. In Him there is no darkness. His creation, however, has taken its freewill and done evil.

Let's consider the "civil authorities" scripture you pointed to. There isn't one scripture that suggests a person must seek out a civil authority to help them. Not one (the persistent widow is an analogy for how God will deliver much better than a person could) . Those scriptures are about obeying the laws of the civil authorities. God has blessed this nation with the ability to defend oneself. That is a mandated law from the civil authorities, no? It was established by God.

Granted, Satan wants to destroy all these blessings, and many people of this nation have wandered away from God and we are now beginning to reap the harvest of evil we have sown as a nation, but the 2nd Amendment still stands for a reason: Because God ordained it for our nation (one of the most blessed nations in the history of mankind).

There is no measure of change in God, or shadow due to variation. He does not change. In the Book of Exodus, Father God states that:

Exodus 22
2 If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed;

He continued:

Exodus 22
3 but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him.

Why would Father God suggest this? There are times when a threat to safety can be dealt with deadly force, and there are times when it would not be appropriate.

If you pull into your driveway, and a man is coming out of your home with your television under your arm, and you know your family is safe, you would not be justified in shooting him. On the other hand, if a man (or men) kicked in your back door at 3am, and there were vulnerable women and children the Lord has put in your charge to take care of, you would not only be justified in defending them, you would be obligated to protect them.

Consider this scripture:

1 Timothy 5
8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

You see, Howard, you're taking your doctrine too far. You would be much like a man who says, "Forget feeding and clothing my family, I will spend every dime I have on spreading the gospel!" Meanwhile, when your family goes hungry and uncared for, you are actually accounted worse than an unbeliever in the eyes of the Lord.

Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous, Howard. If you presume yourself a teacher, know that you will be judged more strictly.

The doctrine of Christian pacifism only relates to persecution and suffering for His namesake. Wanton violence and random lawlessness are not to be met with apathy and helplessness. And realistically, Christians who own guns certainly don't "live" by their gun like criminals do.

In the end, we are called to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. If this is a conviction for you, perhaps the Lord has a reason. But it's not doctrinally sound to insist all Christians should disarm.

Also, in regards to Peter, I agree he was not known to carry a weapon. Additionally, he dealt with innumerable assaults as an ambassador for Christ. However, he was a single man who had no family to look after and protect. Peter, however, was known to carry a sword. He did have a wife and family. Perhaps that's worth considering?

Call the police!

Hebrews 13:17 (KJV)
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

I am not going to sift through all your posts to point out your mishandling of the word, I will simply point out this one as a glaring example:

The people God is referring to in that scripture, are spiritual leaders of the local church congregation. You've misapplied the scripture to be for civil authorities, which it absolutely is not. Please go back a few scriptures to see who "they" are (emphasis mine):

Hebrews 13
7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.9 Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat.11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp.12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.13 Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.14 For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Lets read a little more to see if it says blow the mans head off or take revenge

Exodus 22:2-4 (KJV)
If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. [3] If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. [4] If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or donkey, or sheep; he shall restore double.

Nope!! It says restore

"Smitten that he die", might qualify as getting their head blown off here.
The second part of the verses says "if he is found alive", then he shall restore.

Now I ask again what can our weapons really do when The Lord send a evil spirit upon his servant for whatever reason?

what?

What could Job have done other than pray!

These days we have a few more options than Job did.
Mark 16:17 "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;
Luke 10:17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name."

Still you have a point, a gun would do little against a demon. But I'm guessing the odds of a demon breaking into my house or slightly lower than a human.
Anything I can't handle spiritually, I know someone who can. Mark 1:24; Luke 4:34
==================================================================================
God protects my family this is why I don't need a weapon. I trust in God with all my mind and body?

I wonder do you ever go to the grocery store? Why, doesn't God provide food for you? Does manna fall from heaven for you?
Do you ever go to the gas station? Why, doesn't God provide gas in your gas tank?
Do you ever go to the doctor or dentist? Why?

God expects us to do certain things. Even if we trust him.
==================================================================================
Mat 10:34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Luke 22:36 And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.

Just a note here on Luke 22:36; The Bible doesn't usually mix metaphors.
In Eph 6, we see the armor of God (even the sword) is obviously being used metaphorically.
(i.e. shield of faith, helmet of salvation, breastplate of faith, etc...)
In Luke 22, it doesn't appear the money-belt, bag, and coat are metaphors, so why would the sword be one?

Interesting thread, very contentious.
I will take a shot at the question and see if I can hit the mark.

"The weapons of our warfare are not ....."

I'll shoot from the hip and take no prisoners.

"if someone strikes you on the cheek..."

Remember to aim high and don't go off half cocked.

Hope I have not jumped the gun with my opinion.

It's ok for Christians to have weapons. There is nothing in scripture prohibiting them.
For some who may be employed in security/police, etc, that is part of their job.
For others, they may be sporting shooters.

As for a weapon to protect yourself as a citizen I don't believe that is necessary for Christians as our trust is in God and He directs our paths.

As for the gun control debate, that's just a very misleading issue being pushed by liberals seeking political gain from it and also by those prone to unthinking emotional knee-jerk responses. It directs attention away from real solutions to violence in society. We had this debate in Australia over a decade ago. Gun restrictions were introduced here in Australia after the Port Arthur massacre and they did nothing to change trends on violence in society.

In the meantime the mainstream media (who always conveniently direct public debate against guns) continues to promote violence and blithely encourage copy-cat killings through their sensationalization of massacres, etc.

Interestingly the typical prepetrator of killings is one who is mentally unsound (and more easily susceptable to the mainstream media's promotion of violence), which raises another issue that is being ignored in this debate, that is whether such people should be allowed into society anyway. An example here in Australia, at the time of our gun debate, was a man who tried to have himself committed to an institution as he was concerned about his mental state. The authorities denied him, claiming that he didn't fit the measure to be determined insane. This man later brutully killed (with a knife) his brother's fiancee. And this killing revealed that the government had in previous years changed the assessment standards to reject many, who in the past would have been accepted as insane.

The gun debate is just a misleading ploy with little to no interest in reducing violence in society (as evidence here in Australia shows).

(article from gotquestions.org)

Due to the growing level of violence in our world and the extolment of peace in Scripture, there is much debate among Christians regarding whether it is appropriate for a Christian to own weapons. However, a comprehensive look at the Bible offers insight regarding historic practices that inform this issue today.

We have the example of the apostles, who owned weapons. On the night Jesus was betrayed, He asked His followers to bring swords. They had two, which Jesus claimed was enough (Luke 22:37-39). As Jesus was being arrested, Peter sliced off the ear of one of the servants of the high priest (John 18:10). Jesus healed the man instantly (Luke 22:51) and commanded Peter to put away his weapon (John 18:11). Peter’s ownership of a sword was not condemned, only his particular use of it.

On another occasion, soldiers came to be baptized by John the Baptist. When asked what to do to live for God, John told them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages” (Luke 3:14). John stopped short of telling them to lay down their weapons.

And then there is David, who praised God “who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1). The Old Testament contains many other examples of godly men who owned and used weapons, usually in the context of warfare.

The Bible never forbids a Christian from owning a weapon, but it does offer some principles to consider. First, Christians are called to be peacemakers (Mathew 5:10). A Christian considering the purchase of a weapon should prayerfully consider if doing so would aid in peace-making.

Second, a Christian should only own a weapon for a purpose that would honor God (1 Corinthians 10:23). Using a weapon for hunting, military or law enforcement duty, or self-defense may honor God. Still, a person should reflect on his or her motives for owning a particular weapon.

Third, a Christian should abide by local laws, including gun laws. Romans 13 is clear that governing authorities are from God and are to be obeyed. Further, we are to pray on behalf of governing leaders who oversee our communities and nation (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

Ultimately, there is nothing sinful about owning a gun or other weapon. A weapon can be useful and even necessary in some contexts; at the same time, Christians should carefully consider their motive and purpose in owning a weapon, and local ordinances should be followed.

As Christians aren't we told to live peceful lives and to take no thought of ourselfs.

I don't think Christians shoud hav e weapons.

But some are called to take great thought of others. Pastors and leaders are overseers of the souls who Christ has died for. Husbands are overseers of their wives and children. Men are called to provide for their families and meet their needs. The need to preserve their lives from death is fundamental.

Trust me when I say that I go into some very dangerous places, armed only with the gospel and the protection God has provided me. I would never bring a weapon unless the Spirit of the Lord spoke specifically to me to do so. When in this ministry, I have no fear of what man can do to me, though many would not regularly put themselves at risk like this because of the danger.

I've seen numerous knife fights over the years. A person our street ministry has served in the past was beaten to death for their monthly check recently. But the LORD has my rearguard. I have nothing to fear.

All that being said, as a husband and provider for my wife, I know I should be prepared to defend her life if I must, as she is vulnerable and unable to do so for herself.

The doctrine of Christian pacifism has gone very, very wrong. Persecution for His namesake should never be met with force. But random, wanton assault should not be received with complacency. It's just not Biblical to assume otherwise, but many have a stronghold due to the modern teachings of the scriptures.

If
the kingdom of If?
What if
Lord of the Ifs?
If what?
What if not?

Think a little deeper about the theory of your reasoning here
the evolution of your thoughts
if you can

Jesus died for that man
loves him just as much as He does you
and your loved ones who are in your imaginary Ifland

for starters, can you do it
plug the man
wound him badly
he'll end up in the can
will you then visit him and pray every day
for this one who was part of Calvary's plan
and what of the victim victim
if you don't (oops) shoot them too
any idea what trauma a court case
or a dead man
will put your loved ones
through

fine to be bravado
in your mind and talk
but have you ever
stopped and thought
what it is doing to your walk

think on these things

and do you know the feeling
of the souls desperate plea
Oh Lord forgive me
I could have witnessed you
instead
but I was in a state of flesh and just couldn't
wouldn't see
and now instead of sharing you
and showing grace and love
I've shot this man
dead

Please someone tell me who walked in Peter's shoes
just what of weapons he carried
and how did he do
in the garden
of betrayal
when His Lord and Master said
it is enough
accomplished
just what the prophets said

there is a song that goes a little
like what I'm about to write
talks of a ricochet
a blind man and a gun
about bowing head if ever sin has touched your mortal soul
and somewhere in the lyrics of a child somewhere in time
perhaps a place close to your ifs
a place that may never be
but what of the blindness
of one who has been
set free
one who now
can see
a weapon carrying born again
a hero
in their own sight
and what if
if there are
rebounds
that haunt you
brother
night
after
night

can all you posters see
beyond your fearful scheme
and maybe instead practice
some worship to the King
prepare yourself
instead
for word
fitly spoken
that will tend the stony soil
and even
if the seed's
already sown
anoint
and heal
like oil
when if instead
of shootin
you blessed the man
instead
saying
go your way
friend
sin no more
talk to Jesus on your bed

cos there ain't no intruder
that will keep humpin away
when you are there
standing right there
he won't know what to say
but you
dear brother Christian
have been given all the words
if fact the Word Himself
will speak
and He'll do so right away
and all your voicing of praises
the Lord
my Rock and
my Defense
my Keeper
Protector
Provider
Shield
My only One I trust
will not be lost to canker
nor lost to rust
nor worm
or wicked servant will be said of you one day
so beat it into a ploughshare now
and on your knees to pray
no more ifs for me my Lord and King
You are my everything
including ever present help
death has lost it's sting

fear no more
no weapons formed will
carry the word on High
and if
you meet an intruder
one day
if
if you meet and intruder
you'll have the word to say
go in peace
go in peace
forgiveness
is what you'll say
just as when
you heard those words
on your salvation day
and when you're tried with heavenly fire
it won't all burn like hay
have I said enough of words that rhyme
today
while it is
today?

And if you would consider those
who read your posts
afar
does your advice do much for them
in their desperate violent hour
in places where the persecuted
get it tough enough
would it really
be so wise
or worldly
if you could see
through their eyes
to be so weapon proud and tough
or would such action
only serve
to bring more slaughter down
when all the enemies around
gather in the town
and burn your wife
and children
perhaps cut off their heads
burn the church
to the ground
and add to the martyrs list
though needless
by deceit
of reading
how it's good
and right
even 'scriptural'???
providing???
for your own
defending your family
with a gun
I'm so brave
and manly
too
it's a christian thing I've
done?????

the story has just started
and while it could go on
the message of the Gospel needs to be preached
and carried on
and lived
and
with all your heart
and strength
that greatest weapon
of them all
must abide in your heart
the thing that you once heard yourself
at
your Christian start
a word
the Word
that came in the flesh
Who died for you
and me
and for every single sinner
He hung upon the tree
Old Testament
became New
a word that you
all say you know
and that word is

love
Jesus Christ is the Lord
and
God
is
Love

while family matter most
to most
don't let satan beat you to the post
and steal the opportunity
to witness to one in need
even if he has your mother
and already's makin
your mother
bleed
the LORD of Hosts
we sing about
exalt His Holy Name
My fortress and my song
where
oh where
is the Lord
we claim
the One Who's holy name
we write with gloating fancy terms
on forums such as these
where is the Lord we
say
we trust
at such a time of need
when some lost and desperate sinner
is making a loved one bleed
and do not get this the wrong way round
the question's still the same
and it's not
oh Lord where are You
but
Christian
Weapon carrying Christian
the one from the land of If
where are all your praises then
if
if
if

quoting scripture all day long
the scribes could do it too
but look what happened when threated once
see what they did do
they came at night with weapons
with all the mob of priests
the ones
who today
might sound a bit like
perhaps some of you
just look and see what happened
and what did they do
and ask for a minute now
just to Who
did they do
protecting all their goods
and wealth
their families
and their tribe
yes
it makes you stop
and take a look
at what's
on
the
inside

weapons are for pansies
blowing in the wind
the devil laughed and grinned
at silly little carnal fluffs
yes even those who'd sinned
so why be amongst the lost
and why say such empty things
cos if any of you really thought
of providin for your own
you'd put that money in your mouth
and get the loved one's
you say
you are providin for
properly trained
ready
if
it comes
to make a bully groan

see
you might not
be there
when all your ifs come true
so how about some extreme self-defense
and knowing it'll do
if
and only
if
one day
a nutter
comes their way
and you can rest your weapons down
and instead of fighting
do as Jesus said
and offer him your gown

a word fitly spoken
be ready in season too
and stop all this worldly chatter
it's Talk Jesus
it's what you
should do
unless
of course
you are one of those
who sound of brass and symbols
when they
noise
and
clatter

be brave we say
to all the weak
the needy and hurt
Jesus loves you
even now
just the way you are
can you say it to all men
my sister and my brother
whoso will not deny
oh
Jesus said those words
yes who did He
refer
to
but perhaps your family
and mother

if you're going to call yourself a Christian
be it here
or anywhere
remember that the Lord
you love
is Who you need to share
not guns
not knives
not swords
not clubs
no weaponed formed will prosper
so
do not talk of worldly stuff
and tell the world it's true
when all it is
is an excuse
to cover fears unfounded
no excuse
will do
get into Jesus
pray and read
and serve in love
get yourselves
more grounded

because
one day
you might
just might is all I say
you might have chance to witness
until then
you've got plenty
of time
to pray

Jesus is no lord of ifs
and so ought not be you
remember
finally
at the end
of time
you'll
have to
give answer
for all
you do

and say

build one another up
in faith
not fear
in faith
not fear

Jesus is my Surety
no ifs will do for me
Jesus is my Lord and King
He has set me free

brothers
rather than trying to convince each other and others about weapons it really would be far more beneficial to encourage those who might be weak and fearful and let them know again and again that Jesus is Lord and King
and never be so proud to stop yourselves from standing up and being amongst the fearful if that is what you are
Trust in the Lord
There is a fair possibility that none of the repliers and posters here have ever come across a situation where they drew their weapons
Jesus is Lord
Keep Him there
Trust in Him
not your weapons

Sometimes in life we actually have to do the things we hear and say

one little question to finish all this off
do you take your weapons to church with you?
and sorry, two questions
if not, why not?
If no-one took their weapons to church with them then that would make church the most unprotected place to take your family and loved ones
please think about this
You'll find that Jesus is Lord outside as well

Ok ..12pages now ..I'd like to step this up a it and change gears a little .So my question is very rela want to what Loy's ahead for every believer..Do Christians have the right to defend ourselves physically if need be or do we lay down our life for another to preach. The Gospel .? Even in the garden Christ stopped the assault on the soldier and replaced his ear then went to the cross for him as well as us to prove the point .does it destroy a witness to show physical violence .? Just thought I'd ask .weapon or not ..Rev

I had a great time at the range today. Shot my new Judge revolver, my 30-06 rifle, tested my new semi-auto 12 gauge on some skeet and fired my friend's mini 14 and his 22 mag.

edifying edit

this post is a follow up of my 2nd post above
posted for your edifying
and to tell of His great love

it also is an edit of my fist post (page 6) where I said
question: should christians own weapons
answer: no
and as you'll see
may best be said
instead
as yes

and despite some who choose folly
and own their guns as toys
proving to all
that they're none
but boys
I think the whole point here in this thread is surely about weapons as things used for assault or shooting or harming another with?
let the boys play with their toys

weapons of our warfare are spiritual
not carnal
see 2 Corinthians 10:4

below is a look at what Jesus did and taught
what He did with the constitutional rights of the day
what He did about a wrong that deserved the death penalty at the time
what He did even if the accusers did so with good moral social or religious intent
and then something He did for the one who did the wrong

shooting straight:
(just quickly)
sin is missing the mark
the target we aim at
so who among you is in a position to out-shoot the Master
to deal with the sinner
or the sin?

read on for what He did

as for rights
and issues of blood and law
once a woman was caught in the act
like so many scenarios presented in this thread
where someone is caught red handed
in someone else's bed
there may be some who read this
who really aren't too sure
the woman was brought before the One Who Christians adore
Who alone is Righteous
when it comes to right and wrong
and the law
they had within their legal rights
the OK to carry stones
to use them in the justice
dealing heartlessly
blindly
against skin
and bones

in those days
much like now
the rights allowed
a citizen
an upright one of course
to mete out due reward
to an offender
and do it in one accord

when they came to Him accusing
the woman caught and guilty
He asked
or said
proposed to them
let him who is perfect
none of you I may add
unless by His Blood
let him who is without fault
who is without sin
let him first cast a stone

it was a legal thing
within
the rights
of everyone
that day
and the law equipped them
weapon-wise
in their own eyes
what could the woman say
they had their rights to use all force
to deal with this act
so universally condemned
a sinner
a religious sort of pact

but something happened
something said
which changed
forever then
the sinner
the one caught
in the very act
in violating woe

and something even greater
if it could be
also happened
around that time
if you would only see
the rights and laws
they lived by
that protected worldly man
was dealt a blow at Calvary
a New law to transpose
a law of love
forgiveness
turn the other cheek
a law that protects the soul
if they would be so meek
to come before
accused
and found
accusers at their heals
a law that covers all the sins
and gathers to the Meals
even the worst of those
those even caught in the act
now this is the truth
yes it is
fact
no weapon needed now
except perhaps one
only one
one we can possess
and with this weapon
we can come
together
no more sin
and partake in that
Meal
remembering the deal
when Christ the King
was crucified
dying there in our place
bloodshed
for every sinner
the whole human race
and we can bring it with us
it's a gift from God above
that weapon is
as you know
free to all
it is
His love

we fight not against
what are weapons for
not against
the flesh
not drawing blood
the carnal rights desire
the lust of self
protecting
the carnal man
his laws

his rights
his cares
his mortal life

his blindness
his scared and threatening dares
are all quite futile
hell-bound
hard
enmity
to say the least

for we who are His
the Christian
it has been plainly said
can cast all their burden
fears
wars
tears and
cares
upon the One
Who died
accused
Who took upon His sinless life
our sins
in such a way
that we can now
forget the rules
the rights to defend our cause
and trust instead
and be counted
worthy
loved
precious
amongst
His jewels

read it for yourself
see it written there
in second Corinthians
ten
verse four
Ephesians six
verse twelve
and John
eight: three to twelve

and we can also read
we have a right
permission
to see the truth
written clearly here
Without the shedding of blood
is no remission.
Hebrews 9:22
which sort of tells us too
that no sorting out
either now or then
eternally we talk
is going to come
until we change the way
in which we walk
His Blood was shed
does it mean no thing
that we our rights
now sing
and do we put His holy law
aside to please
our own
who of you
are sinless
can you cast that first stone
or should you find your comfort
in Him
and Him alone

the people came to Him seeking a go ahead to stone her
look and see how He was the only one left after they all departed
see how He did not throw a stone at her
but laid one at her feet
Himself
the Rock
refuge
safety
hope
and steadfast
friend
so different from the stones
that man would throw
at someone
caught in the act
doing something worthy of death
in their eyes and reasoning

not thrown to hurt
but look too at all those
who consider Him
not well
but as a rock
of offense
defending themselves with weapons of carnal warfare
standing by their rights
and somehow in it all
it is
that through the hate-filled vengeance
He became that Rock
our Saviour

a sin is a sin
don't laugh and grin
the wages of in is death
in this case
by stoning
all have sinned
where did they go
with their weapons of stones to protect them
a social crime
a violation against another
possibly someones mother
which involves a child
one at least
and also a sister or brother
but certainly one is surely hurt
and that is someones lover
now Jesus is become a someone too
no matter how many or how bad you do
and not only has He become a rock
though many still today
they mock
Jesus Christ has filled sins hole
and has and is become
the lover of your soul
so why deal so worldly
why choose the gun
He told us plainly
how to react
to deal with a sinner caught
and if we would
follow Him
that sin can become
as naught

while we make reasons
to exercise our rights
to defend ourselves
and others
remember that woman
caught in the act
and do what's right
dear brothers

I wonder do you ever go to the grocery store? Why, doesn't God provide food for you? Does manna fall from heaven for you?
Do you ever go to the gas station? Why, doesn't God provide gas in your gas tank?
Do you ever go to the doctor or dentist? Why?

God expects us to do certain things. Even if we trust him.

No doubt, God expects us to be wise:

Proverbs 27:12
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

How many of you lock your doors at night? How many of you have health insurance? Do you see how such reasoning is not Biblical? God calls us to have wisdom and to have faith, and the two are not mutually exclusive.

Let's talk about Peter. Peter was known to carry a sword. It was also pointed out by Jesus Himself that Peter's faith was great. Peter walked on water! To suggest that anyone who would own a weapon to prepare for wanton evil has compromised their faith is absurd, and prejudiced.

Here is my last comment on all of this: God has a calling on each and every one of us. We are to listen to Him, not man. Don't be the guy who convinces a Christian not to do something if the Lord has called him to do it unless you are very, very sure your advice is truly Biblical.

Eddy Fire, can you please structure your posts in a way that is easy to read? It also makes the post more organized and take up less room.

Hebrews 10:30 (KJV)
For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

Romans 12:19 (KJV)
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Vengeance is Jesus

Luke 6:27-29 (KJV)
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, [28] Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. [29] And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.

Love you enemies.
If he smite thee on the cheek offer the other cheek.
Don't blow there head off.
if the come to steal your cloak or DVD player offer them the coat and tv.
don't blow his head off
