Read the verse again it says , he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip, he that has no sword, let him sell his garment,and buy one. Why would he say take your scrip and if you have no sword buy one.
Never the less we need be learning how to hear the voice of the Spirit of God that we can follow after the Spirit of the Word for it is written the letter kills but the Spirit brings life.

Paul a Christian did not carry a weapon as we know of, Paul did not use a weapon as we know of. Paul was persecuted for the name of Jesus Paul walked like Jesus, should we follow the example? Jesus and Paul did not carry a weapon.

Again the question is should a Christians own a weapon?

Perhaps my point is that there is no definite answer to the question 'should a Christian own a weapon', which applies to every believer. Those who are, or who are to be a part of the Body of Christ will each have his function, but those functions will not all be the same:

"For the body is not one member, but many." I Cor 12:14

"If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him." I Cor 12:17-18

Howard, your erratic postings show very little self-control. The fruit of the Spirit includes self-control. Shotgunning a million scriptures (many out of context) in a frantic manner is also an unwise manner to reprove, if you really feel called to reprove on this matter.

Also, implicating God in the evil of this world is a very wicked notion you need to repent of. I say this in love. God is light. In Him there is no darkness. His creation, however, has taken its freewill and done evil.

Let's consider the "civil authorities" scripture you pointed to. There isn't one scripture that suggests a person must seek out a civil authority to help them. Not one (the persistent widow is an analogy for how God will deliver much better than a person could) . Those scriptures are about obeying the laws of the civil authorities. God has blessed this nation with the ability to defend oneself. That is a mandated law from the civil authorities, no? It was established by God.

Granted, Satan wants to destroy all these blessings, and many people of this nation have wandered away from God and we are now beginning to reap the harvest of evil we have sown as a nation, but the 2nd Amendment still stands for a reason: Because God ordained it for our nation (one of the most blessed nations in the history of mankind).

There is no measure of change in God, or shadow due to variation. He does not change. In the Book of Exodus, Father God states that:

2 If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed;

He continued:

Exodus 22
3 but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him.

Why would Father God suggest this? There are times when a threat to safety can be dealt with deadly force, and there are times when it would not be appropriate.

If you pull into your driveway, and a man is coming out of your home with your television under your arm, and you know your family is safe, you would not be justified in shooting him. On the other hand, if a man (or men) kicked in your back door at 3am, and there were vulnerable women and children the Lord has put in your charge to take care of, you would not only be justified in defending them, you would be obligated to protect them.

Consider this scripture:

1 Timothy 5
8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

You see, Howard, you're taking your doctrine too far. You would be much like a man who says, "Forget feeding and clothing my family, I will spend every dime I have on spreading the gospel!" Meanwhile, when your family goes hungry and uncared for, you are actually accounted worse than an unbeliever in the eyes of the Lord.

Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous, Howard. If you presume yourself a teacher, know that you will be judged more strictly.

The doctrine of Christian pacifism only relates to persecution and suffering for His namesake. Wanton violence and random lawlessness are not to be met with apathy and helplessness. And realistically, Christians who own guns certainly don't "live" by their gun like criminals do.

In the end, we are called to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. If this is a conviction for you, perhaps the Lord has a reason. But it's not doctrinally sound to insist all Christians should disarm.

Also, in regards to Peter, I agree he was not known to carry a weapon. Additionally, he dealt with innumerable assaults as an ambassador for Christ. However, he was a single man who had no family to look after and protect. Peter, however, was known to carry a sword. He did have a wife and family. Perhaps that's worth considering?

I am not going to sift through all your posts to point out your mishandling of the word, I will simply point out this one as a glaring example:

The people God is referring to in that scripture, are spiritual leaders of the local church congregation. You've misapplied the scripture to be for civil authorities, which it absolutely is not. Please go back a few scriptures to see who "they" are (emphasis mine):

7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. [4] If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or donkey, or sheep; he shall restore double.

Nope!! It says restore

"Smitten that he die", might qualify as getting their head blown off here.
The second part of the verses says "if he is found alive", then he shall restore.

These days we have a few more options than Job did.
Mark 16:17 "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;
Luke 10:17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name."

Still you have a point, a gun would do little against a demon. But I'm guessing the odds of a demon breaking into my house or slightly lower than a human.

Just a note here on Luke 22:36; The Bible doesn't usually mix metaphors.
In Eph 6, we see the armor of God (even the sword) is obviously being used metaphorically.
(i.e. shield of faith, helmet of salvation, breastplate of faith, etc...)
In Luke 22, it doesn't appear the money-belt, bag, and coat are metaphors, so why would the sword be one?

It's ok for Christians to have weapons. There is nothing in scripture prohibiting them.
For some who may be employed in security/police, etc, that is part of their job.
For others, they may be sporting shooters.

As for a weapon to protect yourself as a citizen I don't believe that is necessary for Christians as our trust is in God and He directs our paths.

As for the gun control debate, that's just a very misleading issue being pushed by liberals seeking political gain from it and also by those prone to unthinking emotional knee-jerk responses. It directs attention away from real solutions to violence in society. We had this debate in Australia over a decade ago. Gun restrictions were introduced here in Australia after the Port Arthur massacre and they did nothing to change trends on violence in society.

In the meantime the mainstream media (who always conveniently direct public debate against guns) continues to promote violence and blithely encourage copy-cat killings through their sensationalization of massacres, etc.

Interestingly the typical prepetrator of killings is one who is mentally unsound (and more easily susceptable to the mainstream media's promotion of violence), which raises another issue that is being ignored in this debate, that is whether such people should be allowed into society anyway. An example here in Australia, at the time of our gun debate, was a man who tried to have himself committed to an institution as he was concerned about his mental state. The authorities denied him, claiming that he didn't fit the measure to be determined insane. This man later brutully killed (with a knife) his brother's fiancee. And this killing revealed that the government had in previous years changed the assessment standards to reject many, who in the past would have been accepted as insane.

The gun debate is just a misleading ploy with little to no interest in reducing violence in society (as evidence here in Australia shows).

John stopped short of telling them to lay down their weapons.

The Bible never forbids a Christian from owning a weapon, but it does offer some principles to consider. First, Christians are called to be peacemakers (Mathew 5:10). A Christian considering the purchase of a weapon should prayerfully consider if doing so would aid in peace-making.

Second, a Christian should only own a weapon for a purpose that would honor God (1 Corinthians 10:23). Using a weapon for hunting, military or law enforcement duty, or self-defense may honor God. Still, a person should reflect on his or her motives for owning a particular weapon.

Third, a Christian should abide by local laws, including gun laws. Romans 13 is clear that governing authorities are from God and are to be obeyed. Further, we are to pray on behalf of governing leaders who oversee our communities and nation (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

Ultimately, there is nothing sinful about owning a gun or other weapon. A weapon can be useful and even necessary in some contexts; at the same time, Christians should carefully consider their motive and purpose in owning a weapon, and local ordinances should be followed.

But some are called to take great thought of others. Pastors and leaders are overseers of the souls who Christ has died for. Husbands are overseers of their wives and children. Men are called to provide for their families and meet their needs. The need to preserve their lives from death is fundamental.

Trust me when I say that I go into some very dangerous places, armed only with the gospel and the protection God has provided me. I would never bring a weapon unless the Spirit of the Lord spoke specifically to me to do so. When in this ministry, I have no fear of what man can do to me, though many would not regularly put themselves at risk like this because of the danger.

I've seen numerous knife fights over the years. A person our street ministry has served in the past was beaten to death for their monthly check recently. But the LORD has my rearguard. I have nothing to fear.

All that being said, as a husband and provider for my wife, I know I should be prepared to defend her life if I must, as she is vulnerable and unable to do so for herself.

The doctrine of Christian pacifism has gone very, very wrong. Persecution for His namesake should never be met with force. But random, wanton assault should not be received with complacency. It's just not Biblical to assume otherwise, but many have a stronghold due to the modern teachings of the scriptures.

Ok ..12pages now ..I'd like to step this up a it and change gears a little .So my question is very rela want to what Loy's ahead for every believer..Do Christians have the right to defend ourselves physically if need be or do we lay down our life for another to preach. The Gospel .? Even in the garden Christ stopped the assault on the soldier and replaced his ear then went to the cross for him as well as us to prove the point .does it destroy a witness to show physical violence .? Just thought I'd ask .weapon or not ..Rev

He told us plainly
how to react
to deal with a sinner caught
and if we would
follow Him

to defend ourselves

I wonder do you ever go to the grocery store? Why, doesn't God provide food for you? Does manna fall from heaven for you?
Do you ever go to the gas station? Why, doesn't God provide gas in your gas tank?
Do you ever go to the doctor or dentist? Why?

God expects us to do certain things. Even if we trust him.

No doubt, God expects us to be wise:

Proverbs 27:12
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

How many of you lock your doors at night? How many of you have health insurance? Do you see how such reasoning is not Biblical? God calls us to have wisdom and to have faith, and the two are not mutually exclusive.

Let's talk about Peter. Peter was known to carry a sword. It was also pointed out by Jesus Himself that Peter's faith was great. Peter walked on water! To suggest that anyone who would own a weapon to prepare for wanton evil has compromised their faith is absurd, and prejudiced.

Here is my last comment on all of this: God has a calling on each and every one of us. We are to listen to Him, not man. Don't be the guy who convinces a Christian not to do something if the Lord has called him to do it unless you are very, very sure your advice is truly Biblical.

Ok ..12pages now ..I'd like to step this up a it and change gears a little .So my question is very rela want to what Loy's ahead for every believer..Do Christians have the right to defend ourselves physically if need be or do we lay down our life for another to preach. The Gospel .? Even in the garden Christ stopped the assault on the soldier and replaced his ear then went to the cross for him as well as us to prove the point .does it destroy a witness to show physical violence .? Just thought I'd ask .weapon or not ..Rev
