These verses are not talking about our eternal salvation, but our works.
Whether they be of our selves, or done in the power of the Holy Spirit.
We, even as Christians lean to much to our own understanding, and go about trying to please God in our own efforts.
I wonder sometimes how often we really go to the Lord, in prayer, and ask him, Lord what should we do about this situation, do you want us to go here, do this?
Do we really seek his face, his precepts, his way ,his truth, his life,
Or do we just start the day, doing what we think is before us to do, and like the two Kings in 1KIngs 22: inquire of false prophets to our detriment?
Are we really in the word, do we seek to understand his word, or just take for granite that what we've been told is true?
Have we ever taken the words we think we understand, and do an exegeses on them to know what they really mean?
We cannot produce spiritual fruit unless we abide in Christ.
What is fruit, in a Christians life?
It isnt salvation, that was a free gift, given by our Lord, and Savior.
Fruit is the works he has given us to do, because of our salvation.
We are either walking in the flesh, or His Spirit. These two are contrary to one another.
One will produce wood, hay stubble, and will be burned, yet so we will be saved, though by fire. 1Cor. 3: 15
The other is fruit through the spirit, producing righteous fruit of the spirit. Romans 7:4-5 The rest of the chapter is good also.
There are many references of fruit...Good fruit, bad fruit...it is most often the results of what our lives produce. :friends:
I disagree this scripture is not about our works at all, the only worker in this context is God the husbandman or gardner. The whole emphasize is about abiding with Christ and that if we don't abide than He with all that He is, including Life cannot abide in us.
