I truly want to be reconciled with my first husband but I read a scripture saying that remarrying your first husband after being married to a second is detestable in Gods eyes. Does this mean I can't remarry him?
Only if you are a Jew because Gentiles converted to Christ are not under the law but under the spirit of grace and love.
If you are new testament believer you are supposed to be reconciled to the spouse of your youth.
1 Corinthians 7:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
If you want to be technical the current marriage is not valid.
You and your original spouse are still "one flesh".
This is my understanding and opinion so you should research yourself to be confident you are being led by the Holy Spirit.
When forgiveness is applied to any wrong doing it essentially never happened.Just as our sins are as far from us as the east is from the west.Adultery can be forgiven and grace and love be exalted over the marriage.
I like to think of the multiverse theory that science is looking at and I think it is in the scriptures. It's like once someone is forgiven we can just say that the incident happened in another universe but not this one.
In the Jewish law is was OK for a man to have more than one wife but not the other way around.
I think Christians dropped that double standard because it seems unfair but it could be argued that if not under the law a woman could have more than one husband.I'm not sure if we can have more than one "one flesh".
