How Do I Put on the Armor of God?

The biggest problem for me,is why do so many have different interpretations of scriptures? I am sure a are sincere in their beliefs. And very adamant as well by the way.
I listen though to different teachers. They all have massive degrees in Hebrew,Latin,Greek,Texican, you name it. But none can agree. One will say in Hebrew, this means this. The others you listen to on same subject, no....it means this.
Hi lentz,

I said I would come back to this....

To be honest, I find this to be a problem of language itself. (And then one of tradition.)

Think with me here.... Modern English has more words in its vocabulary than modern French, modern Spanish, and modern German... COMBINED !
(- Robert MacNeil, from the PBS special)

This means that there is a single Hebrew word for which 60, maybe 80 English synonyms could be used, and some of these have nuance that give the exact opposite meaning.

I'll give an example here....

(Genesis 4:4 KJV) And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect (H8159) unto Abel and to his offering:

But a good Hebrew lexicon (heck for all that matter you can check Strong's) will give you the primary definition of H8159 as "bewildered" or "dismay." Meaning, "and the LORD had dismay unto Abel and to his offering."

But that doesn't fit the narrative, now does it?

The same thing goes with Melchizedek and Abram, but I'm not about to bring that up here.

And that is why i seem to challenge people here.
And I think you should challenge away, but make sure you don't wind up crucified here, brother.

The core of everyones belief are all the same. God sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus shared His message for all. Jesus took our sins when dying on the cross, and opened the door for us to enter heaven.
I think I'll exercise prudence and caution.

That was exactly why i loved reading Corey Tenboom's book, where she talks about reading scripture is like eating a candy bar. You don't sit there and try to figure out the ingredients well you're eating a candy bar.
Maybe you should... instead of becoming diabetic (in doctrine).

( in reference to your comment "I find many doctrinal errors come from taking a single Passage speaking about a specific issue and then expanding on it into some General principle of which it was never intended")

Scripture was written in paragraphs.
If you'll note, I said Passage, which technically can be composed of a number of paragraphs. So... what's the concern here.

I feel that where it becomes dangerous is when a person changes what scripture has already established to fit their own thinking.
And what if some Pope or theologian or Bishop already did that, "change scripture to fit their own thinking," and that this has NOW become "established" belief?

There wasn't any "Rapture" until a fifteen-year-old girl in Glasgow Scotland had a vision in the early 1800's, a period already rife with the creation of JWs, Mormons, and Christian Science.

I'm not saying that you believe this, Bill, since Catholics don't, but I'm sure there are some on this forum for which the Rapture is as important a doctrine as communion.

(Oh, almost forgot the Millerites that became the 7th Day Adventists....)

And the more we spoke the more twisted it got, and he was absolutely certain he was right.
And can one be assured that you think you're absolutely certain as well?

Belt of Truth

Breastplate of Righteousness

Shield of Faith

Armor of God

The armor of God is described in Ephesians 6:10-18. In this passage we are told that our primary battles are of a spiritual nature and that we need spiritual armor to be able to stand firm in the midst of these battles. The armor includes the following pieces:

Belt of truth: The belt of truth is the first item in our arsenal. A belt holds the other pieces of clothing and armor together. It secures the outfit and allows a soldier to move freely. Truth both secures us and gives us freedom (John 8:32). One of Satan's greatest offensive tactics is to deceive us; he is the "father of lies" (John 8:44). With the belt of truth around our waists, we are prepared to defend against this. This truth also applies to the way we live our lives. When we live with honesty and integrity, the other pieces of our armor – what could be considered our spiritual selves – stay intact. A life of integrity is not easily torn asunder.

Breastplate of righteousness: The breastplate of righteousness covers our hearts and other vital organs. In a sense, the breastplate covers the most vulnerable areas of a warrior. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." The righteousness that guards a believer's heart is the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Shoes of Peace: Our feet are to be "fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace" (Ephesians 6:15 NIV). Because we know the good news of Christ and by that knowledge experience peace in Him (John 14:27), our feet are willing to move. In obedience to Christ, we will flee temptations (1 Corinthians 10:14; 1 Timothy 6:11; 2 Timothy 2:22) and walk into whatever He has called us to (Psalm 86:11; Isaiah 30:21; John 15:10).

Shield of faith: The shield of faith is used to "extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one" (Ephesians 6:16). When Satan attacks us, our faith in Christ lessens the blow. We are able to withstand the attack because we know whom we have believed (2 Timothy 1:12).

Helmet of salvation: A helmet protects the brain, basically our minds. It is because of salvation that our minds can be sound. We are assured of our eternities, and made righteous recipients of peace, practitioners of faith, and knowers of truth. Our minds are protected because of Jesus' work on the cross; we have been given the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:12-16). A helmet can also serve as a signifier. When the enemy looks at us, he sees that we belong to Christ. We carry with us the seal of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Sword of the Spirit: The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. This includes God's written Word (the Bible), God's incarnate Word (Jesus as Logos), and God's spoken Word (the Holy Spirit within us). The sword is the one offensive weapon in the list. We are told, "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12). Second Timothy 3:16 (NIV) speaks of Scripture as being "God-breathed." When God spoke creation came into existence. He breathed life into man. There is power in the Word of God; this is why it is our best offense.

credit: What is the full armor of God?
God is a Spirit. God does not have armor.
So therefore you cannot put on the armor of God, because He has none. I would recommend that you would just concern yourself with obeying whatever He command you. Then you don't got to worry about having armor or any adversity.

(Semantic games.)

Is Jesus then not the Son of God because God is a spirit?

Did God not create the universe? Is it not God's creation? Or does God not have a creation because God is a spirit?

So what if God creates or provides for you certain things described in metaphor by armor?

That would be God's armor (created for you).

Then you don't got to worry about having armor or any adversity.
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
- John 15:20 KJV

I would note that armor is defensive to help one withstand persecution, so what's wrong with that?

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Please pick out or point out in this statement I posted on this thread,

(God is a Spirit. God does not have armor.

Then we can discuss, if it is truth?

The word of God, is a Spirit. Jesus stated on more than one occasion you are too obey the Spirit. To obey the Spirit, you have to walk in the Spirit. It does not require putting on any armor or doing anything other than being obedient unto the Holy Ghost. If I have said anything that is not true please cut and paste any part of it or parts of it that you say or not true and then we can discuss if it is the truth.

Eph 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Eph 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
Eph 6:14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
Eph 6:15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;
Eph 6:16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Eph 6:17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

This isn't a physical battle against flesh and blood. This is a spiritual battle. The armor is spiritual in nature.

I know He is Spirit and His Words are our armour.. if one doesn't spend time with Him and get to Know Him then one has no armour or has him/herself convinced of a lie that he or she don't need it

You physically battle your flesh everyday.

No matter how much armor of anything you have on you, if you disobey any commandment of God then nothing is going to do you any good against the devil.

You people can do as you like put on all the armor of whatever you like all you think it's just in your imagination, the only thing that will save you and deliver you is obedience unto the Holy Ghost. Anything else is worthless and meaningless and just a waste of time.

I don't need no armor of anything I just need to do what I always do and that is to be obedient unto the Holy Ghost. Works for me not every time but all the time.

Here again that is incorrect, you must be born of the water and Spirit.

There's another reason why you don't need no armor, because when you become born of the water and Spirit, the word enters into you and you enter into the word you are one with the word.

I'm not trying to convert or persuade any of you to change what you believe, I'm just telling you you're out right wrong and deceived in what you believe, and proved it. I'm doing you a favor, you all should be thanking me.

Then we can discuss, if it is truth?
I've given you my reply. It is concise and coherent.

So therefore you cannot put on the armor of God, because He has none.
Does God have prophets?

If God sends a prophet, cannot one say that such a person is God's prophet?

I'm not sure what your native language is, but you're playing semantic games. There's no reason to discuss anything if you can't answer my questions. (They weren't rhetorical.)

I'm not trying to convert or persuade any of you to change what you believe,
Then why post? Your statement comes across as unhinged.

I'm just telling you you're out right wrong and deceived in what you believe,
Are you one of God's prophets then?

and proved it.
I am more convinced than ever that you don't know what constitutes a proof.

Works for me not every time but all the time.
Then it isn't the Holy Ghost. Whatever voice you're hearing, God doesn't "work" some of the time.

I'm doing you a favor, you all should be thanking me.
Do you understand just how narcissistic that sounds?

you enter into the word you are one with the word.
And I'm not sure you understand just how Gnostic that sounds.

I would suggest that you start a thread to discuss your views.

I would highly suggest, that you take whatever Paul wrote with a grain of salt. However he does say a lot of things that are true, but I highly suggest that you take it him with a grain of salt, if you're going to rely on it as the truth. Works for me all the time.

In fact I'll go one step further and highly suggest to you, that you just get your truth straight from the Holy Ghost that is dwelling within you, that is if the Holy Ghost is even dwelling within you. Maybe that's why you got to lean towards believing someone and relying on someone for the truth as they see it, other than the Holy Ghost dwelling within you, because the Holy Ghost isn't dwelling within you?
