2 John 1:8
Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.

very interesting scripture here stating we must be working for something, yet we know we can not work for salvation, so we do work for rewards it appears. Also very interesting is we can loose these rewards it seems from this scripture.

Blessings

our works make our faith in Christ living or perfect. also we can do all things thru Christ

@Dave M.

I was browsing through some of the posts, and I came across one of your post; interesting?

We are supposed to work for this !!

I notice you said, “we cannot work for salvation, so we do work for rewards it appears.”

Do you still believe this?

Is it your thought that we cannot work for salvation from sin, or salvation for Eternal Life?

correct salvation is from grace alone, we work because we are saved not to get saved. when we screw up there goes those heavenly rewards promised to us all through out the bible is my understanding.

we work for rewards yes indeed.

Dave M.
What scripture are you using to confirm your reasoning that we don't "work?"

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

So understand we do work to please God , but it still not good enough to earn our way to heaven, only way to earn your way to heaven is be perfect obey the law 100% and no one can do that
we are saved it is by grace and grace alone so no man can boast. yet we work to please God but nothing we do will ever be good enough to earn our way to heaven.

there are two types of religion in the entire world,
1. you have to earn your way to heaven by being good enough
2. Christian religion we will never be good enough we need grace from the father

Hello Dave,
Ephesians 2:8,9 is not talking about being saved unto eternal life, but from sins. Between verses 1-9 the message is only talking about being made alive from sin; verse 5 specifically.

God is not telling believers to do anything we cannot do (1Cor. 10:13). Man can be obedient to Jesus (Luke 10:25-28). Man cannot do any work to become saved from sin; but they can do works of obedience for Etenal Life. Just like Israel had to obey to enter the promise land, we must obey also. Israel did not enter the promise land because of Grace, but because of their works of obedience. Though they entered the promise land, they were also kicked out because of disobedience works.

Hebrews 5:8
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Hebrews 5:9
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

@regibassman57

But it is our work that makes our faith living and our love perfect and vice versa. Paul thru the Holy Spirit found it prudent / expedient to turn our heart towards God and glorify God's anointed.
That way the seed could be planted on good soil.
Your words are not wrong for an infant or someone new in Christ. However at some point "God Wiling" that infant must become a child and that child must become an adult.
At some point the mother is going to tell the youth to depart from her nipple. The flesh alone can discern that is true.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Hebrews 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Hebrews 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.
--------------------------------------------------------------
That is a big problem with Christianity because we want the privileges of Infants but treated like Adults. Unless otherwise indicated I treat everyone on here like Adults.
And this is not specifically towards you or anything but a spirit is on me to be firm with this.

Faith is expedient but works are still needed in order to maintain that faith. There are nice and sweet ways to say this and there are more blunt ways to say this but the end result is all the same

John 3:16 is for infants while 1 Corinthians 2:15 is for Adults

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

1 Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. "once we remain in a spiritual frame of mind of course"
1 Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Only a carnal man or a man who speaks carnally divides faith from works. One is more expedient? yes. One has a better solid foundation? yes. But are they both of God. Yes. His word is one.

1 Corinthians 3:3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

1 Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

1 Corinthians 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

1 Corinthians 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

The Law came from Moses which came from God & Grace and Truth came from Christ which came from God.

Is one of these Prophets more excellent? Yes. But God is more excellent than all who sent both of them with his word.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faith and Works is like Man and Woman in The Lord

1 Corinthians 11:11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

@Ivar,
Are you impying that I am saying a believer is not responsible for theri works or doesn't have to work?

@regibassman57
No. But the spirit told me you may take offence and to add these words.

"And this is not specifically towards you or anything but a spirit is on me to be firm with this."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the moment I am not directly implying that you are saying a believer is not responsible for their own works or doesn't have to work.
That was just on my spirit to say. Perhaps because I am aware of how easy the grace of God can be turned into lasciviousness
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saved thru faith; we maintain that faith with living faith; we achieve that living faith thru works; which makes our love perfect; which casteth out fear, etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is the same Moses and Christ. Also I don't think that new wine skin parable /analogy is suitable but I forget where you posted it.
--------------------------------

Lastly this is from the book of jubilees also known as little Genesis which you may or may not find relevant. Genesis does not go into detail but apparently all spirits were made on the first day. However concerning the flesh of Adamand living soul that was created on the sixth day. This is just me emphasizing that Paul was glorifying Christ

  1. Jubilees 2

  2. For on the first day He created the heavens which are above and the earth and the waters and all the spirits which serve before him -the angels of the presence, and the angels of sanctification, and the angels [of the spirit of fire and the angels] of the spirit of the winds, and the angels of the spirit of the clouds, and of darkness, and of snow and of hail and of hoar frost, and the angels of the voices and of the thunder and of the lightning, and the angels of the spirits of cold and of heat, and of winter and of spring and of autumn and of summer and of all the spirits of his creatures which are in the heavens and on the earth, (He created) the abysses and the darkness, eventide <and night>, and the light, dawn and day, which He hath prepared in the knowledge of his heart.

@Ivar,
I know 100% without doubt, the spirit of God did not tell you, "I may take offence." You should not speak falsehood in the name of THE LORD.

@Ivar
So are you saying it was simply my flesh that gave me that discernment to add "And this is not specifically towards you or anything but a spirit is on me to be firm with this. " in Post [HASH=594]#9?[/HASH]
Also was there any lies or deceit according to the volume of the book in Post [HASH=594]#9?[/HASH]

@Ivar,
I'm only referring to what you said here:
"But the spirit told me you may take offence and to add these words."
If you were talking about me, that's not God, but the flesh. Another influence other than God's Spirit.

@Ivar, @Dave M,
This parable gives us an understanding of what to expect concerning our reward in Heaven. Believers are the laborers.

Mat 20:1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
Mat 20:2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day (Eternal Life), he sent them into his vineyard.
Mat 20:3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
Mat 20:4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
Mat 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
Mat 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
Mat 20:7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
Mat 20:8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
Mat 20:9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
Mat 20:10
But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
Mat 20:11
And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
Mat 20:12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them "equal unto us," which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
Mat 20:13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
Mat 20:14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
Mat 20:15
Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
Mat 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

@Everyone viewing this post:
Are these verses wrong or right as it pertains to Eternal Life? And why doesn't these verses apply if against?

Luk 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted Jesus, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

Luk 10:26 Jesus said unto him, What is written in the law? how read thou?

Luk 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.

Luk 10:28 And Jesus said unto him, you has answered right: this do, and thou shall live.

@Ivar,
I believe you said I could not use Luke 5:37-39 in my analogy of the Holy Ghost as the new wine and man as the bottle or vessel. Where was I in error?

Treasures in Heaven Matthew 6:20-21
…20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So Jesus is telling us it is good to seek treasure, but do not be a fool about it and seek treasure that wont last here on earth seek it and store it in heaven where it will last forever.

So just how do we store up treasure in heaven?

Matthew 6:4
Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Matthew 6-6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Mathew 6-17-18
But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I think one of the main reasons (IMO) we are to do these things in secrete is so we remain humble God tells us many times in the bible that we are to humble and not prideful,

------------------------------------
1 Cor 3:14; If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
1 Cor 3:15; If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

We can store up treasure in the form of crowns too.

Incorruptible crown 1 Cor 9:25
Crown of righteousness 2 Tim 4:8
Crown of life. James 1:12, Rev 2:10
Crown of glory 1 Peter 5:4

rewards in heaven

@Dave M.

I look at the term rewards in the figurative sense. As Matthew 20:1-10 teaches. The Householder is the Lord and believers are the laborers. God has agreed with every believer, from the beginning, what they will receive; this will not change.

When I research the scriptures below, they each point to Eternal Life in the different descriptions. I believe Heaven itself is a Treasure (Rev. 21:11-21)

Mat 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hides, and for joy thereof goes and sells all that he hath, and buys that field.

Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Jam 1:12 Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fades not away.

2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

1Co 9:25 And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shall suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
