Treasures in Heaven Matthew 6:20-21
…20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So Jesus is telling us it is good to seek treasure, but do not be a fool about it and seek treasure that wont last here on earth seek it and store it in heaven where it will last forever.

So just how do we store up treasure in heaven?

Matthew 6:4
Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Matthew 6-6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Mathew 6-17-18
But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I think one of the main reasons (IMO) we are to do these things in secrete is so we remain humble God tells us many times in the bible that we are to humble and not prideful,

1 Cor 3:12; Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
1 Cor 3:13; each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.
1 Cor 3:14; If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
1 Cor 3:15; If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
1 Cor 3:16; Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Cor 3:17; If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

Well God sees everything you do anyway, so if we trying to impress men by proclaiming it out loud and telling them all the time its not really for them it would be we just want mens praise.

The world tells us we need to promote ourselves and be proud of our achievements. Puff ourselves up..I even hear christians saying its going to look good on your CV. Um...and who writes this CV well in most cases you end up having to write it yourself!

But Gods way is not the worlds way! Let others commend you not ourselves. Jesus didnt write any of the bible. But what He did was so wonderful other people could not stop talking about it. Remember how Jesus did say in many cases when he did a miracle not to tell anyone and to keep it secret...because he didnt want praise from others or to be famous he just wanted to please His Father.

I can imagine Jesus CV would be pretty impressive if he listed all fhe miracles he did in that short 3 years. But I dont think he kept track of them all. Besides Jesus wasnt out to win a job interview or be promoted. Jesus inheritance was up to God to give.

The love of the Father to His son is not like a master to a slave. God can see past just job performance and look at your heart motivation.

As John wrote in verse 25 of chapter 21 of his gospel:

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

We can store up treasure in the form of crowns too.

Incorruptible crown 1 Cor 9:25
Crown of righteousness 2 Tim 4:8
Crown of life. James 1:12, Rev 2:10
Crown of glory 1 Peter 5:4
