Tithing?

Not open for further replies.
Here is another confirmation that N.Testament people are Tithers:

Matth.23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and pharisees, you hypocrates! You give a tenth of your spices-mint,dill and cummin. But you've neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness......."

-This shows clearly that we should tithe, Jesus was rebuking them on a certain matter and happened to mention tithing. Yes they were tithing but on the other hand they were neglecting other important things.

-I'll also say this to non-tithers, they are busy with other kingdom
bussiness but they are neglecting tithing which is very important as the rest, thus robbing God. Its God's word and Jesus encouraged it, so why do you choose to neglect it. Partial obedience is total disobedience!!

All your examples are before the cross and part of the old covenant. It seems you are confusing the new testament of the bible with the new covenant. You also might want to study the old covenant practice of tithing found in Deuteronomy 14.

Deuteronomy 14:22-29
22 “You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. 23 Bring this tithe to the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored, and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to fear the Lord your God. 24 Now the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored might be a long way from your home. 25 If so, you may sell the tithe portion of your crops and herds and take the money to the place the Lord your God chooses. 26 When you arrive, use the money to buy anything you want—an ox, a sheep, some wine, or beer. Then feast there in the presence of the Lord your God and celebrate with your household. 27 And do not forget the Levites in your community, for they have no inheritance as you do.
28 “At the end of every third year bring the tithe of all your crops and store it in the nearest town. 29 Give it to the Levites, who have no inheritance among you, as well as to the foreigners living among you, the orphans, and the widows in your towns, so they can eat and be satisfied. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all your work.

If one chooses to tithe (even though it is not required by God of any new covenant believer) at least do it scripturally which is nothing at all like the common false teaching of tithing taught today in many churches.

Jiggfly, Can you clearly illustrate and give evidence based on the word as i have done, what from my post is new and old covenant. Back it up with scriptures. What do you have to say on Heb.7

Hebrews 7 is not regarding the law of tithing but rather a one time tithe. Tithe means tenth and Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils of the battle to Melchizedek, but Abraham kept none for himself, he only regained what was lost. Read the story in Genesis 14, it's very interesting. But tithing as a requirement did not exist until Israel was delivered out of Egypt.

Jiggyfly, i dont understand the above post when you say Heb. 7 was just a one time tithe and not a law of tithing. What do you mean by one time, yet Abraham and his descendants did it continously from generation to generation untill now(us), that's why its written the dead and the living tithed.

Matth.23:23 -the teachers and pharisees also tithed, how is this the old covenant.

People should understand the principles of giving. There's no life when giving ceases. In John 3:16 " For God so loved the world that HE GAVE His ONLY son....." He Gave so that we might have LIFE and in abudance....John 10:10. If He wasnt given to die for us then we wouldn't have life. So that means the new testament is mainly based on giving.....No giving, no life, same to our day to day life, when we cease to give we die in certain areas of our lives thus limit God's blessing. And tithing is part of it.

Giving is the ONLY area in the whole bible God has told us to TRY Him. then what follows, God will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that we will not have room for it..... Malachi 3:10-11. So why did God choose this area and challenged us to try Him. It means there more to it than what we see thus, should apply it.

Jiggyfly and the other non-tithers, i want to ask a question, you dont need to answer via the post, you know yourself better....If Jesus would be next to you, do you think He'll tell you "Oh my son dont tithe and give offering for that was under the law, what i said in Malachi 3:8-12 is just but an old law so dont bother to tithe...."

His word is true and is forever settled in Heaven.

Did you happen to read the OP of this thread??? There is no record of Abraham tithing more than once, there is no record of Isaac tithing, no record of Jacob tithing, no record of Joseph tithing. You are definitely misinformed. There's a big difference between tithing and giving.

Exactly, that is exactly what Father is saying in the new covenant.

Jiggyfly, point of correction from the above post, you said there is a difference betwn. tithing and giving....Tithing is giving out 10% income of what you've earned its God's money, no debate about that while giving is just a general term with diverse meaning. There are diff. types of giving which are Tithes, material giving, self and offering.

Back to my point. If you read Heb.7 then you'll understand that Abraham tithed unto God then the rest followed his steps. i dont think it was once he did that if it was that case then what does vs,8 mean? i dont think it would have an impact from his generation to generation. To me i understand it was something they did continuosly to this generation.

Another thing, do you give out offerings? You might be and many people do ,God sayed in Malachi that you are a robber if you dont pay out TITHES and OFFERING, Why is tithes ommited yet it was also included with offering. People tend to go for the easier option, that which doesn't pain us yet its God who gave us the strength and ability to aquire wealth.

You also answered in my last post that Christ would encourage you to stop tithing.....Lol...

I'll repeat again, there is no scriptural record that Abram tithed more than once, there is no scriptural record that Isaac, Jacob, or Joseph ever tithed at all, the tithe wasn't implemented by God until the Exodus and then it was not for everyone. In Malachi 2 and 3, God is speaking to the priests. Although tithe is mentioned, Hebrews chapter 7 is not about tithing it is about priesthood or more importantly a comparison of the Levitical priesthood to the highest Melchizedek priesthood.

New covenant giving is much more simple, and once again we see the brilliance of Father's genius in the new covenant.

2 Corinthians 9:6&7
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

The laws and regulations of the old covenant govern from the outside, but in the new covenant we governed by the Spirit within us. this is why in reference to the new covenant the scriptures we are not instructed to be led by scripture but we are instructed to be led by HolySpirit. Again it's a clear case of tradition vrs Truth. I could go on with much more but I am not the revealer of Truth, HolySpirit is, but I have exposed some of the errors in this common false teaching.

In the kingdom of God there are principles and one of them "seek and you will find", "ask and it will be given unto you", "knock and the door will be opened".

Jiggyfly, part of what you wrote on the above post, second last paragaraph is not scriptural hence, dont believe it. You said we're not supposed to be led by the scriptures but by the H.spirit......Yes, in Rom 8:14 teaches those who are led by the Spirit of God are God's children but, i disagree when you say that we are not supposed to be led by the scriptures.

You cannot separate the scripture/Word with the H.Spirit , we are led by the Holy spirit and the Word. John 1:1 " In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the Word was God" God is word and the bible teaches the H. Spirit will teach you all things and remind you of all Jesus said. John 14:26. You cannot be reminded what you've not read , so as we read the word which leads and guides us then the H.Spirit comes in and reminds us, leads and teaches us. So you cannot separate the two, they work hand in hand. Its wrong to say we are not supposed to be led by scriptures, for it is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path-thats leading.

As per tithing, i'll go with one of the kingdom principles which you mentioned ealier, Seek and you'll find and what the bible says that the spirit of truth will reveal to us all truth.......May God help us and open our understanding pertaining this issue.

I have not been on these boards for some time, so I will interject if I may.

When I first received Jesus and turned my life over to Him, I was discipled in the belief that we are still required to tithes 10% of our income to the local church. I did this faithfully, and usually more than that. I am not here to sound my own trumpet, but rather to acknowledge that as a new young Christian, I took in and believed everything the Pastor said.

There is also something else he said practically without fail every Sunday. He said, "don't believe me, check for yourself." That I also took in and became an avid student of the Word of God. The more I researched the modern doctrine of tithing, he more I was convicted of the Holy Ghost that my giving (rather tithing) was entirely in vain since I was giving out of compulsion, and not as purposed in my heart.

Where tithing is concerned, I support the convictions of Jiggyfly, except about not being led by Scripture, but following the Holy Spirit. The Spirit and the Word always agree. When I am being prompted in a direction by the Holy Spirit, I always check the Word to see if it agrees. There are times when I thought I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit, but checked it against the Word, and it did not agree. I concluded that it was either a seducing spirit or an imagination of my own heart. But I digress.

Basically, my study and convictions, which are scripturally supported, are that we give according to the law of the Spirit. Here are just a few references, let me know if you want more.

Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not [in] the oldness of the letter.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Be blessed

Hisalone

Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Joh 20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

1Co 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
1Co 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1Co 6:4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.

Mat 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

The point being? Who is greater than you on earth?
Who would you tithe to ?
as You your self are Made a priest and a king

He loves a cheerful giver .He is a giver ,we are to be givers also.

The REASON we do things is Very Important.

If we are trying to live under the LAW ?
We are rejecting our LORDS LAW of LOVE!

your a priest after the tribe of JUDAH , Just like our LORD .
As HE is our perfect example in every way

Heb 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Heb 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

The World is judged by the old laws and All die because of it !

We never die!
we are judged by the LAW of liberty.
Jas 2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Jas 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

In other wards , we live by LOVE and FAITH and TRUTH!

These LAWS , were before mankind and are eternal LAWS!

they are perfect laws!

The old laws were in part .The new are Perfect and eternal.

Heb 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
Heb 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Heb 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Heb 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Heb 7:22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

It is REALLY very SERIOUS !

Our reasons are very Important to our Father GOD!

Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Rom 4:14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
Rom 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
Rom 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that i

Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal 3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

All SCRIPTURE IS TRUE and fit together perfectly.
if we see two that appear to be in conflict ?

Then , We Must think and ASK the HOLY GHOST to reveal to us , HOW can both be True LORD?

Because , They are ! Bless All who LOVE our LORD JESUS CHRIST and Receive wisdom and understanding in the MIGHTY NAME OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST!

tithing

Free-will giving existed before tithing. The following New Covenant free-will principles are found in Second Corinthians, chapters 8 and 9: (1) Giving is a "grace.” These chapters use the word, "grace," eight times in reference to helping poor saints. (2) Give yourself to God first (8:5). (3) Give yourself to knowing God’s will (8:5). (4) Give in response to Christ’s gift (8:9; 9:15). (5) Give out of a sincere desire (8:8, 10, 12; 9:7). (6) Do not give because of any commandment (8:8, 10; 9:7). (7) Give beyond your ability (8:3, 11, 12). (8) Give to produce equality. This means that those who have more should give more in order to make up for the inability of those who cannot afford to give as much (8:12-14). (9) Give joyfully (8:2). (10) Give because you are growing spiritually (8:3, 4, 7). (11) Give because you want to continue growing spiritually (9:8, 10, 11). (12) Give because you are hearing the gospel preached (9:13).

How do we fit First Timothy 5:8 into a tithing sermon? “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” There are sincere Christians who give everything they have to “anointed preachers” and set aside nothing for their retirement and children. Too often those building bigger “barns” to hold their yachts and airplanes are taking the money from their own flocks per Acts 20:29-35.

The Old Covenant plans have been replaced. God’s plan for the church is called the “New Covenant.” The New Covenant is not the same as the Old Covenant. It is based on better principles and better promises.

Heb 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant , which was established upon better promises.

Heb 8:13 “In that he says, A new covenant, he has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away.”

God judged greedy dishonest tithe-recipients in the Old Covenant and he will judge dishonest ministers today also. Malachi 3:5 (in the context of tithing) “And I will come near to you [priests/ministers] to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 2:1 “And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you” --the context of Malachi 3:8-10.

Friends, we must obey the word of God. The book of Malachi says in chapter 3 verse 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Then it goes on to say in verse 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me,even this whole nation. The Bible clearly states no thieves or robbers will have a place in the Kingdom of heaven unless they repent and turn away from their sinful ways. So, my way of thinking is better safe than sorry. May God Bless You All!

So do you obey all the other commands in the old testament???

We must live by the whole Bible. Remember though we must rightly divide the word. The Bible is Spiritually discerned. So, pray that the Lord through His Spirit will lead you in the understanding of His Word. Too, remember why we pay tithes. When Jesus sent His disciples out to preach the word He told them in Matthew chapter 10 not to take scrip, two coats, etc. because He said the workman is worthy of their meat. Who was going to supply this meat for them? The people whose house they went. Please read chapter ten in Matthew. We pay tithes to help keep our church up. We pay tithes to help keep lights on, water, or for the cost of run down on the church. If we love God we would want to keep His house up. Plus we are suppose to take care of our pastors who minister the word to us. Most pastors who love their work is full time in it. That means they don't have outside jobs to support them and their families. It's hard to try to work and visit the sick in the hospital at 2 in the morning or preach funerals etc... And if the preacher's heart is in the right place he will use the money wisely.May God Bless You!

Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ;

Gal 3:12 And the law is not of faith:

You see ? If you teach others to live under the law"? Your doing evil!

Our motives are very important to GOD !It mioght seem a little thing ? But it is not!

Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Heb 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

Heb 9:20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

WE live under the eternal laws !
The law of LOVe and the law of Faith!

2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

There are no greater on the earth , than GODS children!
We are Priests !
We give as the LORD leads us and to who the LORD leads us!

I find, You do much more out of LOVE and Faith than you ever would out of Force !

The law is Force, we live under Grace and LOVE!

We are judged by the law of liberty!

Rewarded in the eternal !

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

tithing

Some people don't want to tithe because they'd whether spend the money on something they want. I saw a sign once that said Idolatry starts with ''I'' and that is so true. I'll share something with you all as well. This pastor stood before his congregation and started ripping pages out of the Bible, of course they were in shock. They didn't know what came over him, so they asked him what he was doing. His reply was simply,"Why not,you don't want to live by it anyway." So he was tearing the things out they refused to live by. We can't change the Bible to fit us we must change to fit the Bible.May God Bless You All!

Few understand , the GREAT change that took place after the LORDS DEATH!

We SEE clearly , no one could live under the law!
The law killed Al;l 100% .
He said ? if we try to live under them? Them we MUST not break Any!

satan knows this , so he tries to trick others to try!
Knowing this displeases our LORD!

Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

The point being? None could ! trying means failure!

Act 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well, Fare ye well.

2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Luk 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

What do you think the house of God is now under the new covenant? Do you see any differences between the new and old covenants? Do you understand the tithing laws that were part of the old covenant?

Impossible to live by the old testament and the NEW !

in the old , He was dealing with mankind in the flesh mainly!

In the NEW ,He is dealing with our eternal part first ,our spirit!

We are NOT to live for the flesh, But though our spirit!

Only our Spirit gets Salvation!

Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God:

Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
