Who Justifieth the Ungodly

Rom 5:1

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

To be Justified by Faith is when one has been given spiritual assurance by God the Spirit, that they have been freely Justified, or Made Righteus by the Lord Jesus Christ, by His obedience Rom 5:19

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.21

As is Salvation, Justification is promised only to the Seed of Israel !

Isa 45:17, 25

But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation:
ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified,
and shall glory.

So in Rom 5:1

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: These Justified ones by Faith are the Seed of Israel/Abraham as mentioned in Rom 4:16

16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Again, this is the Seed of Israel Isa 45:25

In the Lord[Jesus Christ] shall all the seed of Israel be justified,
and shall glory 21

Justified before God simply by the fact some were chosen in Christ before the foundation, Eph 1:4 which makes the Gods Elect, hence based soley upon that they were Justified Rom 8:33

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

The word for elect here, the greek word eklektos which means:

  1. picked out, chosen

    1. chosen by God,

      1. to obtain salvation through Christ

Its an adjective of eklegomai, the verb Paul uses in Eph 1:4 chosen, as God chose them for Himself in Christ before the foundation, and that fact alone Justified them before Him ! 21

Those Christ died for are Justified [Before God] while they are being ungodly Rom 4:5

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

John Gill writes:

but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly: or that ungodly one: particular reference is had to Abraham, who in his state of unregeneracy was an ungodly person; as all God's elect are in a state of nature, and are such when God justifies them, being without a righteousness of their own; wherefore he imputes the righteousness of another, even that of his own Son, unto them: and though he justifies the ungodly, he does not justify their ungodliness, but them from it; nor will he, nor does he leave them to live and die in it; now to him that worketh not, that is perfect righteousness; or has no opportunity of working at all; or what he does, he does not do, that he might be justified by it; but exercises faith on God as justifying persons, who, like himself, are sinners, ungodly and destitute of a righteousness: 22

Justified by Christ's Redeeming Death alone !

Many in false religion deny this most precious Truth, that if Christ died for one, that fact in and of itself Justified you. This is not Justification by Faith, even though that is true also, but this is Justification solely by the death of Christ, which redeems, and the Grace of God. Here's a scripture that declares it Rom 3:24

Being justified freely by his grace [How] through[on the account of] the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

The redemption that is in His Blood Eph 1:7; Col 1:14 Eph 1:7

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

The word redemption in both Rom 3:24 and Eph 1:7 is the greek word apolutrósis:

release effected by payment of ransom; redemption, deliverance.

The ramsom payment that effected the release was not mans repentance or faith, but the Life Blood of Christ ! For instance Matt 20:28

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

That done, the many He gave His Life for were released. Now released from what ? The debt of sin,

purchasing them from the debt of sin ,deliverance effected through the death of Christ from the retributive wrath of a holy God and the merited penalty of sin, deliverance from the penalty of transgressions, effected through their expiation

Thats why its also correlated with forgiveness of sins !

Forgiveness of sins is automatic with Christ shedding His Blood alone Matt 26:28

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins And thats Justification ! So in essence to teach that one isn't Justified before God, based solely upon the death of Christ, that teaching is an attack on the blood merits of the Blood of Christ before an Holy God, its in fact against Christ ! 22

How were believers redeemed ?

According to Gal 3:13 how were these believers redeemed ?

Gal 3:13

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law[How], being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Now does this say that believers were redeemed from the curse of the law by believing in Jesus Christ ? How about by repenting ? Absolutely not! It says plainly, by Him being made a curse for them, which denotes His death, His death on the Cross. And through His death, redemption is Justification Rom 3:24

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

So now. Are men and women born in sin, for whom Christ died, and redeemed, are they born into the world already redeemed and Justified by the blood of Christ before God, before they believe ? Yes or No ?

Exactly who is it that God Justifies ?

Gods word answers that, for God does things according to His word, even His word of promise. Isa 45:25

In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

Which is the all the seed of Abraham Rom 4:16

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

God promised to Justify Abrahams seed Gal 3:8

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

Rom 3:30

Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

So it is God that Justifies ! Rom 8:33

Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

But now notice who are the objects of Gods Justification here ? His Chosen ! His Elect, or the Seed of Abraham, or of Israel. This looks back to the promise of Isa 45:25

In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

Gods Justification is limited to His own Israel in Christ ! 22

Non Imputation of sin equates to Justification !

Since Non imputation of sin is a branch of forgiveness of sins Rom 4:6-8

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

It is written in Rom 4:25 that Christ was raised again for our Justification. That word for Justification, the greek word dikaiósis, it means:

acquittal, justifying, justification, a process of absolution.

Which words are mere synonyms for forgiveness.

It means:
cleared of all charges (punishment) related to their sins.

Now this is True of them from their mothers womb, as long as Christ died for them and rose again for them ! Its true while they are being ungodly, hence God because of Christ's death, can justify, acquit, forgive the ungodly ! Rom 4:5

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness

Beware of the phrase, his [the believers faith] is counted as righteousness. It should be understood as the object of Faith, Christ, is counted as his righteousness through imputation. Christ is the believers Righteousness 1 Cor 1:30

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

And Faith embraces that fact ! And yet it was a fact when we were ungodly , because our sin wasn't imputed to us, but to Christ so He could He could die for them !

But believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly

Rom 4:5

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth [declare righteous] the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

This is one of the most abused and misunderstood scriptures in Romans 4, for what its saying is mostly denied by mans religion. The Truth here being stated is that God has justified men/women while being ungodly, thats why its followed by Vs 6

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

This means before the person could believe, repent or do any obedience, they were Justified while being ungodly. Its the same truth but stated differently as Rom 5:10

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

That is, when believers were still enemies, hating God, they were reconciled [put into a right relationship] to God ! How ? By the death of His Son.

So both are true and the same. So if we dont believe this, we dont have God given Faith and are yet in unbelief. Only God given Faith will receive that people were Justified before God by Christ's death while they were being enemies/ungodly ! 22

Justified by God by non imputation!

What do I mean? Those whom nothing can be laid to their charge, namely Gods Elect, of them it's said, it is God that Justified Rom 8:33

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

So the non imputation of sins charged equates to God Justifying. The World in 2 Cor 5:19, is a Justified world!

Faith is a Fruit of the Spirit of God Gal. 5:22 given in New Birth to every one of God's Elect Saints.

But the Faith exercised in the mind of a carnal man is a work (Gr. ergon) of the flesh which cannot please God Rom 8:7-8

ergon, G2041:

II. any product whatever, any thing accomplished by hand, art, industry, or mind

G2041 - ergon - Strong's Greek Lexicon (KJV)

So first a person must be Born of the Spirit, then the good work of Believing with his New Mind / Heart Ezek. 36:26 pleases God Rom. 8:9 23

Justified by His Grace!

Do men Christ died for have to believe in Jesus in order to get Justified? The answer is absolutely No! They were Justified freely by His Grace, through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus Rom 3:24

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 23

Forgiveness is Justification !

Forgiveness is Justification because it denotes the debt of ones sin has been put away. Forgiveness brings into play a legal declaration, that those for whom Christ died for their debt of sin and death for sin hath been put away. For them the wages of sin, death Rom 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

That wage of sin death, hath been put away, its forgiven. Any sinner Christ has died for, God has no choice but to look upon them as Just, Righteous; but not for their own sake and doings, but for Christ's sake and doings for them, He paid their debt. Eph 4:32

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

The word forgiven here is the word charizomai and means to

properly, to extend favor ("grace"), freely give favor to grant forgiveness (pardon).

That word pardon means:

a release from the legal penalties of an offense

This was preached in the OT Isa 43:25

25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Or For Christ's Sake their transgressions are blotteth out !

And this equates to Justification. In Rom 4:25

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

The word Justification dikaiosis means :

acquittal, justifying, justification, a process of absolution.

The Resurrection of Christ is proof that those for whom Christ was delivered for their offences, have been acquitted, pardoned, forgiven, Justified, and that freely, even while they are enemies !

Sinners that are Justified before and by God before they believe!

This is a Grand Gospel Truth that false religion can't and won't believe. However scriptures do declare this gracious truth.

One passage that shows this Rom 8:33-34

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Now from a proper understanding here, those Christ died for are not charged with anything, and so consequently they are Justified !24

Sinners that are Justified before and by God before they believe! 2

This is True of every sinner that has their sins taken away by Christ before they believe. Now lets look at Jn 1:29

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

This world of guilty sinners is Justified before God before they believe, because Christ took away their sins before God before they believed. And this world is an elect world, Elect Israel as here Rom 11:26-27

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

When did God Take away elect Israel's sins ? By the Lamb of God Jn 1:29, and by that Israel elect is Justified from all sin before God, even before they believe !

Sinners that are Justified before and by God before they believe! 3

Elect sinners Christ represented are Justified before God before they believe as they became sinners in Adam who represented them before they sinned Rom 5:19

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

To be made righteous and to be Justified are one in the same! 24

Sinners that are Justified before and by God before they believe! 4

That's because the Elect of God are in Christ before they believe Ephesians 1:4. And there's no condemnation to them which are in Christ Rom 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

We must be first in Christ to bear Spiritual Fruit Jn 15:4-5

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

And Faith is a Spiritual Fruit of the Spirit Gal 5:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

That's why believing on Christ shows one not to have been condemned!Jn 3:18

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

But he was not condemned before he believed, because he was in Christ before he believed! 24

Sinners that are Justified before and by God before they believe! 5

This is True once again because sinners Christ died for are by His death alone, redeemed from the curse of the Law before they believe Gal 3:13

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Hence they are redeemed from and Justified before God from the curse of the Law before they believe !

Unconditional Justification !

What means this saying ? Its Justification by Grace !

That's what the scripture teaches right here Rom 3:24

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Notice Justified FREELY BY HIS GRACE !

Now that word freely is the greek word dórean and means:

as a free gift, without payment, freely.

something freely done (as gratis), i.e. without "cause"; unearned (undeserved); freely given (without cost) hence not done out of mere obligation or compulsion.

Notice its something done without cause. The cause cant be ones Faith or Repentance, that would overthrow Grace, because Paul says of Grace Rom 11:6

6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Paul informs of the cause of Justification by Grace, its totally outside the sinner being Justified, its through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus, which simply means by His Death, Heb 2:9

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man

Every man here has been freely Justified by Grace through the redemption that is in Jesus and that unconditionally ! 24

Two ways elect sinners are Justified before God before they believe or have Faith. 1. By Christ being made a Surety for them Isa 42:6

6 I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

Heb 7:22

By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

The simple fact that Christ was made a Surety Justified the Elect before God. 2. And again they were Justified by the Substitutionary death of Christ upon the tree. Rom 4:25

25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

He was raised again because of the Justification of them He was delivered for, many of whom had not yet believed.
