Who is the Holy Spirit

Thank you and greetings
question what is filled with the Spirit, what is the filling part?

Ephesians 5:18 (KJV) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess
, but be filled with the Spirit!
Ac 2:13-18
Hi @TheWordIsOne,

The answer to the question 'what is filled with the Spirit?' and 'What is the filling part?' Is found in those same verses:-

'And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;
but be filled with the Spirit;
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.'
(Eph 5:18-21)

* Being filled with the Spirit, is evidenced in it's fruit:- 'speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God'

'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.'
(Col 3:16-17)

* The word of Christ dwelling in you richly in all wisdom, is like being filled with the Holy Spirit, for it is His means of operation and communication: when filled with Him, we can teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in our hearts to the Lord, and whatsoever we do in word or deed, it is done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.

* People tend to read, ' ... be filled with the Spirit ... ' and ignore what follows: when it is what follows which tells you how the Holy Spirit within is manifested in our daily lives. Not by great daring do's, but by a simple manner of life that is lived within the joy of the Lord.

Praise His Name!

In Christ Jesus

John 14:15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he be with you for ever,
17 the Spirit of the truth: whom the world cannot receive; because it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth: YE know him; for he abideth with you, and is in you.
18 I will not leave you orphans: I come unto you.
19 Yet a little, and the world beholdeth me no more; but YE behold me: because I live, YE shall live also.
20 In that day YE shall know that I am in my Father, and YE in me, and I in you.
21 Who hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and who loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas (not Iscariot) saith to him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou shalt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world?
23 Jesus answered and said to him, If any love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

WHO is the Holy Spirit ??
Luke 24:49 And lo, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry YE in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.

Acts 1:4 and, being assembled with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which ye heard from me:
5 because John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

Acts 2:32 This Jesus did God raise, whereof we all are witnesses.
33 Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which YE both see and hear.

Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and who seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it is being opened.
11 And of which of you that is the father shall the son ask a fish, and he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or again shall ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion?
13 If ye therefore, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

I'd submit that the Holy Spirit is the Father.
Hello @Butch5,

I think that Acts 2:32-33 will make you think again :) :-

Peter said:-
' This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted,
and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost,
He hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.'

For Christ Jesus the risen Lord, received the promise of the Holy Ghost from the Father. What was 'shed forth', by the risen Christ, were the gifts of the spirit, in the form of 'power from on high', taking the form manifest at Pentecost. For the Holy Spirit cannot be seen apart from the effect He produces. What was 'shed forth' or 'poured out' could be both seen and heard, were visible and audible, so therefore not the Giver Himself, but the gifts He bestowed.

It was the risen Christ who 'received' the promise of the Holy Ghost, when He ascended to God's right hand: and it was He who shed forth the gifts of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, or 'power from on high'.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
16 Who hath believed and is baptized shall be saved; but who hath disbelieved shall be condemned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that have believed: in my name shall they cast out demons, speak with tongues;
18 and in their hands they shall take up serpents, and if they drink aught deadly, it shall in now wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.
20 And THEY went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the signs that followed.

Hello @Waggles.

What a lovely passage of Scripture this is, isn't it? May I add a few more?

'And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another Comforter,
that he may abide with you for ever;'
(John 14:16)

'But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
whom the Father will send in My name,
He shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.
(John 14:26 )

'But when the Comforter is come,
whom I will send unto you from the Father,
even the Spirit of truth,
which proceedeth from the Father,
He shall testify of me:'
(John 15:26)

'Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away,
the Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.'
(John 16:7)

* He is called 'the Spirit of the truth' (John 14:17 & John 15:26)).
* As 'the Spirit of Truth' He was 'in' the disciples to whom the Lord Jesus Christ addressed these words, and therefore they knew the Holy Spirit. For they had heard and received the word of God from the mouth of the Lord Jesus Christ, and believed what He had said.

There is so much wonderful truth concerning Him in these verses isn't there.

Thank you

Yes The word of Christ dwelling in all riches in all wisdom, in which the mysteries in our Lord Christ

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (KJV) Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
For to one is given
by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kind of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (KJV) Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I have become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have
the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,
and if I have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

This is maybe why
Hebrews 5:11 (NKJV)
of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

1 Corinthians 3:2-3 (NKJV) I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;
for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

Hebrews 5:12-14 (NKJV) For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
1For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Galatians 3:24-26 (NKJV) Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

So True, but i still like milk, better than i like meat. And while i was growing up i rather eat beans than meat And rather drink milk than water.
and the only way I am going to eat GOD's meat, he has to put it on my table and in my plate and he has to command me to "SLAY & EAT". :eyes: because the meat "GOD"serve is STRONG MEAT! and really not to be desired. Instead of going to "Nineveh" i would rather go down to "Joplin" and on My way to "Tarshish" in the Hull of The Ship!

They had to be taught verbally. How else could it be done?

when someone asks a question my mind responds to scriptures, because the bible or the word, in the spirit, shows me how to respond to scriptures this is what is called having the mind of Christ because it's no longer me, but him.
It is like He meaning, Christ, I myself must decrease so Christ increase in my life.

the mind of Christ

as for me
John 15:22-23 (NKJV) If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.
He who hates Me hates My Father also.

John 15:24 (NKJV) If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father.

1 John 1:8 (NKJV) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Proverbs 26:12 (NKJV) Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Isaiah 5:21-23 (NKJV) Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!
Woe to men mighty at drinking wine, Woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink, Who justify the wicked for a bribe, And take away justice from the righteous man!

Jeremiah 2:35 (NKJV) Yet you say, 'Because I am innocent, Surely His anger shall turn from me.' Behold, I will plead My case against you, Because you say, 'I have not sinned.'

1 John 1:8-10 (NKJV) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

There you go teaching again. may i ask how many Lectures have you given on The Holy Spirit and how many people have you lecture to through out the years and what "conferences" have you lead, concerning the "HOLY SPIRIT" of GOD. And about how many hours spent of The Ministry of The "Spirit of GOD? Since GOD has Given you the Teaching GIFT to present to Pastors and mInsisters and Missionaries concerning the Operations of The Third person of The Triune GOD.

I just want to know. how much experience you have on this matter. It seems you have more than me. I have over 40 years. And only GOD knows how many hours of Study I have on The "SPIRIT of GOD" Stewardship. alone. because i wanted to know 1st hand.
And one thing i did find out on my own. That a "Finite mind" can never comprehend the Incomprehensible and The "HOLY SPIRIT" of GOD is "Infinite" and no way a "Finite" mind can comprehend the "Infinite" because The Infinite is "Incomprehensible" by a "finite" mind. [did i get that right]?

Then later on when I reach my 40's and finally got to one of the church fathers, "Tertullian" and observed His penmanship on "The Trinity" and study his concept The Triune GOD, and at the end of the day he came to to the same conclusion i came to, concerning The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD. Which i have listed here in this conversation post. And then i went on, because it was settle and I was happy in my soul and i move on to higher ground and i ain't going 30 years back and Pressing on. i been there and gone! Light years away. But one day when this Mortal puts on Immortality i am to move up into the reveal of GOD. every moment throughout Eternity.

So enjoy your schooling on the "Holy SPIRIT" I 'm gone been there and done that ,is old school, GOD has so much more, Keep on dwelling there. I am in "ETERNITY" and I got the pedal to the metaL and i pass the Universe about 10 years back. Hurry up it is exciting up here. Amazing one foot on earth and the other one "ETERNITY"

Now do not ask me how GOD does that. Remember i told you about "Finite and The InFinite" the "Incomprehensible":eyes: Now you think i am fooling you, But i ain't. So you might as well stop there, because you cannot "comprehend" the "Incomprehensible" for you have not "The ABILITY" to do so.:eyes:

Now, you said: "the spirit reveals mind to mind".
In order to have a mind one must have a Brain. And a BRAIN is "finite" and temporal and a creation of GOD that is limited. and short on "RAM"

I am sorry i am not going any further. in relating to the Spirit of Truth. for JESUS is "TRUTH":eyes: that is settle.

This was fun. i like you:p I wonder where are you going next.

Hi Chris,

I don't see what this has to do with what I said.
Hi @Butch5,

Perhaps I misunderstood you.

You suggested that The Holy Spirit was the Father: to which I quoted Acts 2:32-33, which says that the risen Christ ' ... received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost ... ', which appears to negate that suggestion. Yet God is spirit, and God is One, so the Holy Spirit is God, yes? Regardless of the terminology which divides God into The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost. Though He is all three, and all three are Him.

Here I am trying to express the inexpressible, and trying to force my finite mind into formulating words to express the infinite. Which is an impossible task. God in His mercy and grace has given us what is understandable, in order to enable us to understand: by providing 'The Father', 'The Son', and 'The Holy Spirit. Three identifiable identities to describe The Person, Will and Purpose of Himself, The One Almighty God.

Forgive me, I am treading on holy ground.

In Christ Jesus

Greetings Chris,

you are not the only one who grapples for words to express this. But you are one of few who do so humbly and with kindness, which in itself should speak more than the words you write.

I recall someone recently describing the Holy Ghost as like your mother, as a way to understand from the finite way of reasoning. Perhaps a can of worms potentially as the whole 'mother' part can be somewhat 'out there' but nonetheless, it did show the gentleness and care with which we are comforted and given sound reminders of what we have heard form the Son regarding the will of the Father.

In another thread, discussion is being had about life and resurrection now and in the future. I would have to say that the life we now have and live (if indeed we do actually live it) is possible because the Holy Ghost has been shed upon us who believe. We also have the need for the whole Body and the Life of that Body.

The Lord knows what He is doing. We are best to begin with remembering that we are unprofitable servants and to get serving the One Who is now our Lord. He more than helps us and makes it possible for us to do the work He has for us to do, and to live the Life He died to give us.
I am quite sure you know these things.

Bless you Sister ....><>

'Wherefore when He cometh into the world, He saith,
Sacrifice and offering Thou wouldest not,
but a body hast Thou prepared me:'
(Hebrew 10:5)

Hello @Butch5,

In the verse above, which refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, who came into the world to die for the sins of the world, it says, ' ... a body hast Thou prepared me ... ' In this case a human frame within which to perform the function of Kinsman Redeemer, and to fulfill God's purpose for Him.

In the case of The Holy Spirit, He is also referred to as, 'The Holy Ghost,' which gives Him form, a spiritual form, which is beyond our understanding to comprehend.

* To look at a dictionary definition of the word, 'Ghost', is to place into the hands of man a role which he is incapable of fulfilling, and therefore will do an injustice to the word as the Holy Spirit Himself would use it, I believe, so only a survey of it's usage within Scripture can really help us to know how we are to understand it.

In Luke 1:35 the wording is particularly helpful:- 'And the angel answered and said unto her (Mary), The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.' Here we have the words, 'The Holy Ghost,' and, 'The power of the Highest,' describing what would, 'overshadow,' or, 'come upon', Mary, that she should conceive and give birth to, 'The Son of God'.

So the word, 'Ghost,' gives form to what would otherwise be, 'power from on high'.

Just thoughts.
Thank you

Hi Chris,

I still don't see what this has to do with what I said. I said, that the Spirit is the Father. This passage you quoted from Luke is one of the evidences of that. Why is God called the Father? He is Jesus' father. If a third person of the Trinity is who impregnated Mary, then that third person would be Jesus' father. For God to be Jesus' father He must be the one who impregnated Mary. Notice also that the Holy Spirit is called, "the power of the Highest".

Regarding the word ghost. That is a poor translation. It helps feed a false narrative. The correct term should be, the Holy Wind or Holy Breath, as that is what the Greek and Hebrew words actually mean. However, it's hard to push certain doctrines when one talks about a Holy Wind as opposed to a third person.

Hi Chris,

What you're trying to explain is unexplainable, not because it's beyond us, but rather, because its contradictory. Church officials in the 5th century put forth a teaching on something they didn't understand and then claimed that anyone who disagreed with them was not a Christian. This teaching became official (Catholic) church doctrine. Later the Reformatiom comes along and the Reformers challenged a lot of Catholic teaching. However, they never challenged this one particular doctrine, so it continued on to today where many Chridtians still will say if you don't beleive this doctrine you can't be a Christian. That doctrine is the Trinity. It's a 5th century Catholic doctrine, not a Biblical one. Church history and Scriputre make that clear.

Tertullian, who is credited with coining the term Trinity as it pertains to Christianity, himself, argued that the Father and the Son were to completely separate beings, not one.

There are writings about the trinity before the 5th century. Augustine also spoke of the trinity.
and even some writings before that. But the Bible itself has trinitarian teaching on the divinity of Jesus.

In a way you are correct The Father and the Son are two separate beings. They are one God, but two beings. The Holy Spirit is the third member.

Hi B-A-C,

Yes, I agree. As I mentioned, Tertullian is the one who coined the term as it relates to Christianity. That was around 200 AD. The modern concept of one God in three persons was codified in the Athanasian Creed in the fifth century. Actually, Augustine may have introduced it. It is that Creed that is contradictory.

However, when you say two beings are one God what does that mean? Also how do you reconcile that with Paul's statement to the Corinthians, 'to us there is one God, the Father, and one Lord Jesus Christ'? Here while including Jesus in the statement Paul exclude Jesus when he speaks of the one God. I think it's pretty clear that Paul didn't see two persons as one God.
