When is our Lord Jesus physically coming back again to earth as He promised and in what manner?
It was believed by many living in the time of our Lord that He would physically come back in like manner as He ascended. We know that He is now in heaven seated next to Father God and is coming back to earth again.
Acts 1:11 “ Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into: heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
Col 3:1 “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
We know Jesus had/has a resurrected body that could be touched, seen and sensed. Thus Jesus rose from the dead in the very same physical body in which He died. However it was more than just the old body that had biologically died on the cross it was/is a resurrected, glorified physical/spiritual body. He was/is more than a spirit and also at the same time more than a flesh and blood body like we have while alive and kicking.
Therefore we could deduce that Jesus has a resurrected, glorified, physical, spiritual body and He is coming back again in this very body riding triumphantly and furiously on a white horse with a mighty flaming sword to pummel the nations as King of kings and Lord of lords and rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. Rev 19:11-16
And so we now need to find out when will this happen? Lets go to the very words of our Lord Jesus who said in Matt 10:23 “ for TRULY, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
And
"27For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28T TRULY, I say to you, there are some STANDING HERE who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. (Matt. 16:27–28)"
And
"33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34 TRULY, I say to you, THIS generation will not pass away until all these things take place. (Matt. 24:33–34)"
It has been nearly 2,000 years since Jesus left earth, and many today wonder why he has taken so long to return. They also wondered in the time of Jesus as well because they were expecting Jesus at any moment - at least while the first generation was still alive. They thought that they were living in the end times.
" Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour." 1 John 2:18
“ Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened."
Matt. 24:34; Mark 13:30; Luke 21:32 and similar predictions in five other places in the Gospels; Mark 9:1, Mark 13:30, Matt 24:34, Luke 9:27, Luke 21:32.
It was believed that He would have returned within their lifetimes to set up his earthly kingdom. The apostles also taught this ( James 5:7-8, 1 Peter 4:7, Revelation 22:12), with Paul even denigrating marriage as it were because the end was so near ( 1 Corinthians 7:25-31). The trouble was that with each year that passed, people got anxious and impatient. They did not lose faith and so when Jesus did not physically come back as they expected Peter tells us that
“you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”… But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:3-4, 8-9
The second coming of Christ has been expected in every generation since that day and even now we are waiting expectantly with great longing and desire and groaning. On May 14, 1948, the Jews’ 2,000-year-old dream of the rebirth of Israel became a reality, as a United Nations charter granted them partial control of Jerusalem.
Israel’s miraculous rebirth has set the stage for the coming of the Messiah which requires the Jews to dwell in Jerusalem. Nearly six million Jews now live in the land God promised to Abraham. In one century, Israel has exploded from virtual non-existence into a nation that dominates the world’s headlines.
So could he come today, tomorrow, next week, next year, next decade, next century, next millennium, NOBODY KNOWS BUT THE FATHER IN HEAVEN.
