What does the future hold for Intelligent Design/Creationism and The Discovery Institute and those who reject the ToE?

Users who viewed this discussion (Total:15)

Despite the fact that most people on the planet who willingly identify as Christians accept the Theory of Evolution the Discovery Institute does not and promotes the pseudoscientific intelligent design movement and one of its promotion campaign strategies to influence public opinion was the Wedge Document which was first uploaded online for the world to see, twenty years ago.

Its five year goals:

• To see intelligent design theory as an accepted alternative in the sciences and scientific research being done from the perspective of design theory.
• To see the beginning of the influence of design theory in spheres other than natural science.
• To see major new debates in education, life issues, legal and personal responsibility pushed to the front of the national agenda.

In twenty years, they wanted to see Intelligent Design as the “dominant perspective in science.”

The Wedge Strategy was derailed a few years later in 2005, when a judge ruled in Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District that “the overwhelming evidence at trial established that ID is a religious view, a mere relabeling of creationism, and not a scientific theory.”

Yet there are still some propagating ID/Creationism.

not sure where you get your facts and figures from but in my few years as a Christian I have to say that most men i have met who profess to be Christian are very happy to have God as the Creator according to as we read in Scripture.
Science is a study of things. A bit like the many discussions here. Everyone looking for the answer that usually is right before their eyes.

I know Whom i have believed and am not ashamed to credit Him with Creation, His Way, not mine nor any others, scientists or not.

Praise and honor and glory and dominion and might unto Him, forever

The Roman Catholic Church accept the ToE. So do most main line Protestants. That is already nearly 1.5 billion Christians. They have decided not to reject or deny science. Google theistic evolutionists.

@Victor Van Heerden

Roman Catholics are not Christians
And I'm not sure what you mean by main stream protestants

Born again Christians believe in creation

My advice to anyone, Christian and non-Christian, is that the Bible does not need to be rewritten, but it does need to be reread!!! As a rule of thumb, if we would read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, reading it for every year we are alive, it will give the reader a much more fuller appreciation and understanding of what God is saying to us.

After I started to reread the scriptures it has answered a lot of my questions I have had on many topics! Check it out for yourselves. Also, remember that: "Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. But prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21, NIV.

You need to better scrutinize your sources. Roman Catholics tolerate science. It is false to say all Roman Catholics believe it. The pope will say '''we will not oppose science, if ToE is where it is currently at, so be it''.

Intelligent design is sound. There is bias against creationism. For obvious reasons? Can you not think of any?

Well, if you don't believe in ID, do you full heartedly believe in our origin from the big bang, via evolution by natural selection? You have no questions on it? You fully accept it?

ID -- Intelligent Design -- yes, it Is sound. Everything in this world points to it -- a creator.

Evolutionarily speaking -- there's no reason for anything To be here. But obviously we Are here. There are those who simply don't want to accept Biblical creation as the means.

People would Rather go with Theistic Evolution. That puts God in the mix 'somewhere'. Mostly that an 'old, bearded man' is in the background Somewhere. He was able to get the ball rolling -- to get the earth Started, but left everything up to 'nature'.

True "science", and the Bible should never contradict each other. Christians could learn a lot about the Bible through science, and scientists could learn a lot about the earth through the Holy Scriptures. God created the universe so that man would study it because within the created things from the beginning there is a revelation about God and his eternal power!!

Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

ID is creationism - did you read my post on the Judges decision? Bible creationism clashes with known science as we all know the world is NOT six thousand years old. And that 97 percent of all species that have ever lived went extinct before mankind came along. Yet the Bible says animals were created for humans. Then why were 97 percent already extinct. You cannot take the creation stories literally.

Neither of us are biologists or scientists. All I want to know from you is why you are sold out to the theory of evolution and so anti the theory of creationism. Is it only because as you have said above 97% of life ''according to evolution?'' is extinct?

Exactly - You might be an chartered accountant. And i would not argue with you, on accounting because i don't know enough. I accept what you say especially if it has corroboration by your learned peers. So we should accept what science say if they have been peer reviewed. Is that not so?

Scientist regard the colloquial use of the term theory as an hypothesis. A science Theory is not on the level of the common usage of theory. For instance in physics we have the Theory of Gravity. Which is the theory that any two particles of matter attract one another with a force directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. Do you dispute that?

Thus the capital T in front of Theory of Evolution means its is more than a hypothesis and beyond dispute. Is on the level of the Theory of Gravity.

Theory of Evolution - and If you are able to disprove the ToE you would receive the greatest and most worthy Noble prize in history. No scientist has been able to do that in over 155 years of scientific research. In fact the opposite has happened and it is the most peer reviewed and corroborated in all of science.

Therefore the hypothesis of creation is not its equal. There is NO Theory of Creation whatsoever.

The judge saw that. Creation hypothesis abound in all religions. When i was in Egypt at the Valley of the Kings i went inside one of hundreds of pharaoh's tombs and was surprised to find on the walls a picture depiction of Adam and Eve, a tree of life and a four legged talking snake. This predates Judaism and Christianity. In fact the Egyptians had three creation myths. The Bible copied from the Egyptians, Sumerians and other religions that preceded it.

All I want to know from you is why you are sold out to the idea that a prescience Bible story trumps science. Especially when you accept its benefits in all other areas of your life: When you or family are sick you depend on medical science, you accept that cell phones are not supernatural even though they are wireless, TV signals, IT etc. You only dislike science when it clashes with religious ideas formed from the Bible. You take the Bible literally when it should not be taken that way.

You know this but like many you suffer from cognitive dissonance. In any case the ToE is just change over long periods of time. It mentions nothing about how life began. Science as yet does not know how life began.
