Unworthiness (accepting help, grace, and mercy)

A lot of Christians have issues with accepting help. Myself included. What scriptures would you suggest? Studies? What root problems cause this deep feel of unworthiness? Pride? I did a little research and the first step is knowing you are unworthy. How did God help you overcome this? Do we need to overcome this? Is this just accepting Gods will over yours? Seeing the way God sees you in the future vs how you see yourself? Being in the Spirit vs being in the flesh?

Accept it. Accept you are unworthy. Accept He loves you anyway. And you can never pay Him back. Just be thankful and love Him :)

That confession tells me you didn't enter in thinking you were worthy, being self righteous. Indeed the first "feeling" in the presence of God should be one shrouded in unworthiness, being an ungodly sinner. But then it becomes necessary to move on in Christ, realizing His blood and body on the cross actually assigned great worthiness to you on the grounds of belief....faith. The kind of faith that made a friend of God out of Abraham centuries before Moses gave the Law. A terrible thing happened to the descendants of Abraham, forgetting to believe God in simplicity, replacing that with works to hopefully have that friend relationship with God. You can't go too wrong to simply discover how Abraham pleased God even though he sinned from time to time. The Law of Moses made it very difficult to know God, until Jesus set all that aside.

Romans 4:[3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
[4] Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
[5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

God will not owe any man anything. He has already freely given that each of us can be saved, on His terms. If you accept those terms of the gospel of Christ, you are already considered righteous, in right-standing with Him. Jesus' death made it possible. You are free to enjoy being in His presence without guilt of unworthiness.

Believer, you are precious to God, far above any treasure in creation, valued no less than the Son of God. Rest in that truth, then be empowered to go with that to others needing the good news. You were a sinner, saved by grace, now a saint of God even while not yet perfect in your flesh body. Enjoy being a child of God. Now go read starting in Genesis 11 about Abram, later named Abraham, then the whole New Testament as though a novel, quickly. Once through it, return to study. John is a great first place to study. Nail down the basic gospel as it came from Jesus, throughout the 4 gospels, before tackling Paul's writings. In time you will be "baptized" deeply into the scriptures through the Pauline books, and gain a wide understanding of the whole plan of God for you. Along the way pray frequently, daily, and spend time listening for God to speak, mostly while reading scriptures daily.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Matt 7:7

Jesus told us to ask, to seek and to knock. When as a result of asking, seeking and knocking, the giving to us and the finding and opening begin, are we then to reject them because of pride?

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt 6:33

Again, we are told to seek first two things specificly and when we do then everything else that God sees that we need will be added to us. So then when He begins to add things to us, if He happens to use a person or persons to add those things, should we reject them because of pride?

We are not glory in ourselves because of what we are or what we do because that is a form of pride. But... as God increases us we must allow ourselves to be increased. We can stop the increase, but to do so will result in stagnation and final death to us. It is not merely a suggestion from God that we have the old man decreased while we have the new man increased... it is a real necessity in order to become more like Him.

"He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30

How are we to do all of these things as God would have us to do them? He gave a promise, didn't He?

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8

The power includes a way to kill the ways of the old man (I must decrease) and to help the new man to grow (He must increase).

Impossible? Certainly for you or me or any other person without God help, but...

"...With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." Matt 19:26

"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:" Col 1:27

Doesn't puts something of Himself in us so that we can accomplish all that needs to be accomplished in us? But.. alas, it is possible to quench that Holy Spirit. Let us not do that because of foolish pride. "Ask and it shall be given you"

Glory to God!

Hello unworthy my name is undone but we are mostly referred to as sinners ..It is only by the grace and love of almighty God that we are called any thing else..Worthy..? Who can claim such a title ..? We will never meet that mark but what we do qualify as is whomsoever..!
I have found a Father that will never leave or forsake me even though I've tried to turn my back on Him before He still loved me and watched for me to come home...Be cause He has my heart and my name in His hands...just like youres..! But now we are ares to the kingdom of God and that's our worth adopted and grafted in to the Family of God through our Elder Brother Christ.......in love. Rev

I am so thankful for the love that shines through on this site :) I will confess that I believe in the power of God. But I was not believing in the fact it was His Will to do those wonderful things for me. I went to bible study last night and we went over the Will of God. His promises in His Word ARE His Will. The way I was thinking is "God has the power to heal me, but maybe I haven't turned from my sin" doubt and confusion. I was releasing faith that I know He could do it. But not grasping the importance that He loves me and it is His Will to heal me. He is teaching me about love. His most important commandment. I'm so thankful He is so patient with me. My understanding of love was very twisted and in some parts still twisted, but He is faithful to take me to the next step :)

I think it's safe to say that when its comes to a Love we can never fully comprehend all of us are a little off on our concept of love.
but I assure you it there for the accepting ,unconditional and full of grace...Rev

God works in and through people to accomplish His purposes in others. This is why I frequently will say, "Give God the glory"!

If God works a work through me or through you, which helps someone else, then it you or I that is the surrendered vessel, which in accord with God's will, has allowed itself to be used by Him.

I'm still learning about surrendering...I seem to make everything harder than it is. I'm so thankful God is patient and faithful and continues teaching me :)

in youre statement about making it harder than it is ..ive heard more than once when leading someone to Christ.IT CANT BE THAT EASY ! ...and i tell you yes it can > The work was done at the cross all you need to do is free fall so to speak..TRY ME THAT I MAY PROVE MY SELF GOD...! His promise to us all ..surrender is against all that we know look how many wars have been fought over some one not wanting to surrender ..THIS IS A BATTLE YOU CAN WIN ..You have an advocate with the Father and if Christ be in youre corner whom can be against you ..? Father i pray that you make youre true power known and show just how much you care even to the last detail...in Christs name amen ........Rev

It is hard because you try to it yourself. Jesus tell us clearly that there are things which are impossible for men. This is why it is so necessary to trust the One who can do all things. Let us lay our heaviest burdens on Jesus!
