The Loneliness Of The Christian

I thought about what to say, hope I do well.

I suppose it all comes with time and understanding, but as for myself, I find comfort and security in the knowledge of Christ. I do not feel lonely, I feel a sense of freedom.

The world, and my friends and those in the church if and when I seldom go , do not comfort me , only God can do that .

Friends are nice to have, but most are of the world and not of Christ.

One does not have to try to beat them over the head with the word of God either, just a simply prayer for them and trust in God and by your own example of life you will cause more of them to pay attention than in any other way.

It is very hard to find a friend who is actually one who truly is a person of god and not a person of religion. There is a great deal of difference.

So I for myself, do find comfort and joy and a sense of calm and confidence , something to look forward to, not a sense of being alone.

I guess I do not put much importance on the world, I will try to live a good life, and will when times are right tell others about Christ, but if they do not listen, I do not dwell on it, if they walk away, it is their choice, I do not feel alone because of that.

Hard for me to explain, and putting a bit of humor to it all, if I have a neighbor that is a real .....well someone I really do not like, and God tells me to love him, I figure my best love is if I do not kill him.

So I find comfort in God, not a sense of being alone, God will talk to me about anything, I can trust him, he will always hold out his hand to me.

People will not.

^^

That's true Kim. We are all on different walks with God, and all have different strengths and weaknesses and sometimes. People who were use to having many friends or many posessions, or many of something, and have had to give that up because alot of it is not rightous or because God asked them too, will probably feel a sense of lonliness. Because you know, though God is capable of filling those voids, no sweat, he did create us with the desire to want other people in our lives, and some possesions and things like that because it's part of enjoying life. When we get to heaven, we'll enjoy his company and what all he has in store for us. He alone would be enough in heaven if it were just him and us, but he created mansions for each one of us, and has crowns waiting for us for our acts of rightousness, and has plant life and animals and a grand city. Sure we don't need those things to survive, but they are there for our enjoyment. Just like, we will be Christ's bride one day in the marriage supper of the lamb, but yet, we are created to seek out love here on earth because it's something that we can enjoy and God can bless very much. God could fill that need for a human companion, no sweat, but he wants us to want others. It's just something we can enjoy. And when the things we are suppose to enjoy, reject us, it hurts. And so, I think what the auther was saying was that it causes us to seek God more because the things we should be able to enjoy here are rejecting us with their sinful nature and ungodly nature. And then God decides to fill those voids himself and he is glad that you came to him. It's not necessarily that you were too far from God to begin with, but him, being as wonderful as he is, is willing to fill in the missing pieces of the things we were suppose to enjoy and couldn't. Just like a child who loses their mom or dad. We are created to want a mom and dad and long for them. It's for our enjoyment and comfort as a gift from God, but when they are robbed from the child, then it hurts. So, that child, can seek out God, and God will fill that void in their heart himself, because he loves them. I hope that makes some sense.

I understand. Family and friends, especially family.

As for mansions and crowns, I find no need for them on earth and would have no need of them in heaven . Just a simple comfortable place is all I would ever wish . That is what we have now, nothing fancy, and quite happy. If I had lots of money I would not know what to do with it, I would have to hide it, because I would always be buying a sackful of groceries or some blankets or paying the rent or something for someone who needed it. I would have to hide it as family would not want to share, it would separate me.....some of what some may have experienced and maybe a reason I do not have. Just an understanding of a lonely thing that I could see in my life, but I would just smile and endure. Not really become lonely. Do not think I will ever be lonely , sad for a time maybe but as I know family is sanctioned by my belief, even if they do not act right, I will see them again.

Just a great confidence that I have, and it takes time, understanding and a lot of talks with God and total acceptance to comprehend what I am saying.

I like my motorcycle though !! I like to go fishing or I used to, kinda always too busy too now days.

But I fully understand what you are saying. I just prefer Gods way to mans , so I guess I do not miss most things. Especially material things,

I would not mind having my fancy Gold Wing in heaven . I am going on a six week tour with it this year. Nature, the smell of fresh cut grass, talking to people of all walks of life, most likely the times I am free of the world, close to God and not at all lonely.

Jiggyfly,
Yes, so true Christians are alone in this world! But in a Church, not a building, real brothers and sisters come forth from nowhere!

Young David, keeping his father Jesse's sheep, spent many nights alone outdoors. Yet, I believe that that is where God met him and drew him to Himself. It was the same for Jesus. So, we're not talking about a loneliness that God cannot overcome; a hole in our soul that cannot be filled.

Yes dear,

God doesn't make His own Sheep (Disciples) in the street but right there in the wilderness. Moses wasn't made in the palace of Pharaoh rather in the wilderness where he was tendering his father's in-law sheep. And those years he spent there were calculated to 40 years of "uneducated" [De-roping from the knowledge of the world(Egypt) ] and 40 years of training(Communion with God). Joseph enjoyed the fellowship with his family and brethren but, to become what God intended, he needed to be enslaved, sold and sent to prison of the king of Egypt. That was a wilderness experience for him.
Samuel, was totally sold to the Lord without a hope of returning to his family; Elijah was a man of wilderness and not of City;
David was not recognized while he was in his father's house; he was forgotten in the in field(wilderness) where He was tendering the sheep, He wasn't trained in the city rather in the wilderness(where he was having communion with the Lord God who taught him how to play harp and how to war); He learned most valuable lesson from the hand of Saul who was seeking for his life. In fact, like someone has said "God used Saul to kill the "Saul" in David". God used Saul as an instrument of destruction to David's ways by that David became a man of Wilderness(Alone with God more and more; most of his Psalms were not written on the throne rather in the Wilderness where he was running away from Saul)

John the Baptist wasn't trained in the city rather in the Wilderness in a lonely place eating locust and honey...

Should I go on? For time will not permit me to tell of Peter, John, James, Paul, Timothy, Agapus, and many more. These were all trained "WITHOUT THE CAMP" in a lonely Place. Every generations of the people the Lord used; they were all trained in The "Wilderness" in a lonely place where they remained with the Lord, having communion and fellowship with Him.

Many of them were not trained in the "CHURCH" because they were also "CHURCH" but they were trained where there seems to be no "CHURCH".

This is the loneliness we are talking about...; In the things of God, the way up is the way Down.. No wonder, our Lord Himself went to wilderness for 40 days and 40 night, and suffered outside the Camp.

Ok I lied, I am lonely. I am home a bit early, my wife has to work a bit late and I cannot lock the door and grin at her through the window, and she cannot play like she is mad. I do miss her. Or I can sit and play like I do not see all the sacks of groceries she brings home until she kicks me and tells me to go get them. Lol!!

Lonely huh? I think I prefer it that way. I guess I do not call it lonely, but peace, and a great time to simply talk to God. I did today. It is a nice day and I had work to do and a lady came walking down the street to my truck, I met her, talked to her a bit and got a job for tomorrow for her, went to see a new realty client whom my wife told me not to count my chickens before they hatched as far as obtaining their work. I think she is right about those chickens. So I was by myself all day, and really enjoyed it. Work, stop and thank God for the day, the chance to enjoy life and the opportunity to give him credit for it.

So you still do not understand??

Ok remember times like when friends would want to drink and rip around in a car. Or later in life friends would want to stop and have a drink. So you just say No, I think I will go home. A time or two of that and they do not ask. A drink at home in moderation is cool, not what I am talking about.

Or you go to a social gathering and things are just not right, or some really bad language is used. Something that makes you uncomfortable simply because you know it is wrong.

Or you go to a fishing outing with a bunch of the guys, and about midnight one of them drags out a porno movie and all drink and view that. Uh oh.

Or a contact in a business relationship would wish you to not be honest and falsify an inspection report, or some other thing to garner more money from the client.

Family, one in your family does wrong, and continues to do wrong, and does not seem to listen. Jesus told us he would separate family and brother from brother, over this kind of thing.

I guess I do not consider it being alone. I instead consider it a preferred way. If I am alone I can talk to God, I can be free of the worlds influence, I can enjoy the day and not pretend to go along with something to fit in, just to fit in. I do not pretend anymore, I finally decided no, take me or leave me.

For me I prefer being alone much of the time. I bear those who do the things that are wrong no ill will, I resent no action that others do, but I just kinda prefer to be away from it if I can.

I would much rather be alone, and have ten minutes to talk to God than spend all day with friends that have questionable intentions.

No I do not call it being alone. I call it freedom.

Make sense? Does to me.

Blessings,
This post is a very good one. I too have often faced the loneliness of the Christian. As a matter of fact I was experiencing it this afternoon. Life is better with Jesus and I wouldn't trade Him for the world. But there are times that I have to find a quite place in my house to just cry and speak to God. Do you guys ever cry because you feel like everyone has turned their backs on you? It's hard to see how once I had so many friends to talk to and hang out with but now it is different.
I wish that I had more Christian friends that I could just speak to or hang out with. My agenda differs from all of my friends in many ways. I work and attend school full time. By the time the weekend comes along I'm exhausted. All my friends want to do is party and drink and I'm not comfortable with that so I do not participate. Even my brother teases me about it. A few days ago he said, "Hendy, you've changed. You used to be fun and outgoing, now you're too serious and boring." But I know that this was coming for the Word says "49 “I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! 51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. 52 For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. 53 Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” - Luke 12:49-53
But I trust in the Lord and I know that this too will pass. It feels good to get that off my chest, thanks guys.
God Bless!!!

If we are known as believers by our love for one another then why are there so many lonely Christians?
From my limited experience it seems to be a huge problem globally.
No I am not talking about lack of fellowship with God, I know we are never truly alone- yet the Lord built a need for fellowship and love in us all.
Truthfully it seems the social butterflies never have much of a problem with this but the hurting and the wounded are frequently left to bleed in a corner.
When Jesus walked this earth He sought out those others rejected, shouldn't we do the same?

Good question, Larry. We have access to the same Holy Spirit Jesus took His cues from when He walked the earth. My church taught me about being available for the Spirit's promptings and that has benefitted other people and added enormous meaning to my life.
