Soul Sleep 1 Cor/2 Cor

Read Acts 5:1-10 verse 5 says Ananias gave up the ghost.
Verse 10 says she (Sapphira ) fell
down and yielded up the ghost.
Ghost is another word for spirit. I believe to be absent from our body is to present with Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

What does yielded up the spirit mean in the bigger sense though.

You have to work it out yourself.
Do you know for sure you are saved; can you remember when it happened and under what circumstances?
Much of your understanding comes from faith and that comes from Christ in you. Is he in you?

October 2005, I'll never forget the day of my salvation. Ever! Rom 10:9-10.

That is what norapture and I have been telling you...you might be resting, you might be floating, who knows? What you can know is that you are with the Lord!

Makes sense.

Yielded up is the same as given up. When one gives up or yields up their spirit, they have died. Remember you are composed of body and spirit. When you die , your body remains and your spirit goes to be with the Lord or hell, depending on how you chose!

They die, but their spirit lives on is what you're saying? If the spirit has given up then how can it live on?

No offense, I do love you ATP but, being born again, you are going to need to read more of the Bible, and figuring out these things for yourself. But saying that, I will hang as long as I can: The spirit world is forever, never vanquishes. That is why it is sooo bad to die as a unbeliever, because your spirit goes to hell ( spiritual realm) and you are tormented for all eternity. It is not the "spirit given up"...it is the body givening up the spirit. Two separate things...body is physical and remains, the spirit is eternal and leaves the body to return to the spiritual realm. Later, upon resurrection, the miracle is your body is raised incorruptible and remains with your spirit in heaven...your "Heavenly Body" = spirit + raised spiritual body. Just like Jesus witnessed to us!

Can our spirit after death hear, see, talk, taste, feel??
O.K., politely this is enough, you should know this....this is the very thing that Jesus showed us with his resurrection! I am done, you can send me a PM if you wish!

No worries. I like asking questions. It helps me learn. The body gives up the spirit, now this makes sense. I think I'm understanding now.

But Jesus was in his body right after he died. His body wasn't in the grave. There's a difference between Jesus and a normal human being. HEAR/SEE/TALK TASTE/FEEL. Thank you for being patience. - ATP

N/P, your welcome! Of course, Jesus was not in " his body", he was in his resurrected body!

Correct, that's why he could hear, see, talk, taste and feel. How do we do these things in our lonely little spirit?

Of course, when we are fully resurrected, our heavenly body + spirit will be just like that of Jesus. Until then, "our poor little" spirits will be just fine with Jesus.

Thank you. RJ. I can't wait. I'll see you there buddy. :)

I came across something very interesting today, the definitions of Spirit and definitions of Soul..

Things I noticed..
Spirt#3 DEF - Regards spirit also as soul
Soul#1 DEF - Regards soul also as spiritual part of humans
Soul#2 DEF - Regards soul also as the spiritual part of humans believed to survive death
Soul#3 DEF - Regards soul also as the disembodied spirit
Soul#6 DEF - Regards soul also as spirit or courage

Now if the spirit and soul are separate entities, then why would a dictionary interchange them five times?
That would make Eccl 12:7 spirit and soul returning to God, not just spirit.
and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit (soul) returns to God who gave it.

Spirit - http://dictionary.re...owse/spirit?s=t

1. the principle of conscious life; the vital principle in humans, animating the body or mediating between body and soul.
2. the incorporeal part of humans: present in spirit though absent in body.
3. the soul regarded as separating from the body at death.
4. conscious, incorporeal being, as opposed to matter: the world of spirit.
5. a supernatural, incorporeal being, especially one inhabiting a place, object, etc., or having a particular character: evil spirits.
6. a fairy, sprite, or elf.

Soul - http://dictionary.re...browse/Soul?s=t
noun
1. the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part.
2. the spiritual part of humans regarded in its moral aspect, or as believed to survive death and be subject to happiness or misery in a life to come: arguing the immortality of the soul.
3. the disembodied spirit of a deceased person: He feared the soul of the deceased would haunt him.
4. the emotional part of human nature; the seat of the feelings or sentiments.
5. a human being; person.
6. high-mindedness; noble warmth of feeling, spirit or courage, etc.
7. the animating principle; the essential element or part of something.

Now if the spirit and soul are separate entities, then why would a dictionary interchange them five times?

Because the fallible man or woman who wrote that dictionary doesn't have a clue?

Please explain.
A lot of people don't understand that there is a difference between a soul and spirit. That's ok, but they are wrong at the end of the day. Dictionaries are written by fallible human beings who make mistakes, the scriptures were written by God himself and contain no mistakes. The New Testament scriptures especially indicate there is a complete distinction between soul and spirit:

Hebrews 4
12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

One cannot divide asunder one thing, there must be two different things that need to be divided. Joints and marrow are two different things, likewise, soul and spirit are two different things. When someone is walking around, I can't distinguish between their joints and their marrow because it's all covered with flesh. Likewise, when someone is walking around I can't necessarily distinguish between soul and spirit because they are both covered with flesh of sorts as well. But, all things lay open and bare to the Lord, who's eye's roam throughout the whole Earth. He tell's us that there is a difference between soul and spirit. I trust him a lot more than I trust a dictionary. Just saying,

But the soul can't exist without the spirit, because they are both spiritual entities.
The dictionary is simply describing that they are both spiritual entities.
If the spirit goes back to God who gave it why wouldn't the soul follow?
Did God not give us a soul also?
