Let God Occupy Your Thoughts
(please read Colossians 3:2-4)
A song in the church says, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face . And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace." These are good words to live by, for one of the strongest deterrents against returning to your old way of life is to focus upon your Saviour and future. As a believer, you have been promised eternal life, the hope of heaven, and the assurance of spending eternity in the presence of God. When you think about that, the trappings of this world begin to lose their appeal.
The next time you feel inclined to dabble with your old life, or feel weighed down by the worries of this world, or fear that you won't make it as a Christian, remember to do this things:
...Keep your eyes on your final destination.
...Realize that worry should not be a part of your life.
...Picture yourself as dead to this world and alive in Christ.
...Remember that your Redeemer is returning.
If you allow these truths to occupy your thoughts, you will find it much easier to obey God and say no to the alluring, but damaging, enticements of this sinful world.
