I use BibleGatewaydotcom for Bible study. And, I noticed strange results coming up in NIV verses. It turns out that Bible Gateway is using the NIV 2011 version.

The original NIV, in spite of being a little loose in translation, was still good. The NIV people then came out with TNIV version which many found to be objectionable and so it was shunned, as all bad translations should be. With the failure to foist a politically corrupted product onto the public, the NIV people have discontinued TNIV, and have brought over the TNIV changes, plus more, to the popular "NIV" version.

Most of you are familiar with the "gender neutral" debate, where masculine terms in the Bible are translated into non-masculine language. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the new NIVs willingness to change the Bible to be more Politically Correct.

In the future, the NIVs at the book store won't be your dad's NIV.

I remember as a young Pastor, pionering/starting a new church in a local village near to my fathers house,(1963). I invited a Scottish AoG evengelist to preach for a few days. Halcyon days they were...on reflection.

At that time the NIV was considered a detraction from the teaching of the A.V. in many of its verses,

This precious brother who was such a blessing to us, announced before he preached the gospel, he was reading from the Authorised Version,...... and he was doing that..........because it was Authorised.

The KJames version. was an authorised translation, by Kingly right, and commanded the best minds to undertake.

Now many are happy with the N.I.V

Since that day many versions derived from the Originals, and King James Version have appeared. I would not be surprised to see even more translations of Holy Writ. Translated to accommodate life today by today's man.

I appreciate 'talkjesus' and I am of the opinion that meeting Jesus, will prove to be the vital point, as the 'day approaches'

The 'new church' I mentioned at the start put up a new building last year, and prospers. To Jesus I Give Praise.

But regardless of the writings of men, even such as study the manuscripts of the ages.. The basic, foundational reality of Salvation, of Eternal Life, has all to do with having met the Saviour.

When Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, all who looked, were healed. The word 'looked' is gazed in the English language.

How long are you prepared to gaze at the crucified one?

As you look (gaze) to Him you will be cleansed from all your sin and infirmity. Regardles of modern thought.

Be Blessed

Bible Versions..........

The debate about Which bible version to read has been going on for a long time.

To think that some translations had not been influenced by some Satanic attack would be a stretch of imagination. Even if it was not intended.

your best choice would not to be wrapped up in such trivial matter, and stick with learning out of the KJV as it is the most quoted bible, and sets the standard.

Using other translations to expound on scriptures in reference to the KJV is Also OK.

There are some that Hold that the KJV is not a good translation. That is fine, and not taking a stance on any bible position can avoid silly arguments from those that hold on to religious traditions.

If one has faith that God is able to get the truth across using any translation, and that the Word of God is preserved perfectly as God intended, then those that really seek and not hold to faulty doctrine will find the truth. Those that don't seek with a closed, unlearning Mind, deserve the new NIV 2011.

I really haven't had much to say in the Bible version debate. I think most of the popular ones are good and most of the bad ones stay obscure, as the TNIV stayed obscure. My concern with the new NIV is that the modern NIV team, after failing to subvert Christians with the TNIV, are slipping in their corrupt version under the old NIV name.

Bible versions.

Allforihs, I understand your concern... Years ago, I was on a KJV kick, and all others were evil. I am sure I was more forward about it than your post and concern about the new NIV.

We certainly do not want anyone to be led astray from the truth, but we can't be Jesus for everyone. I have full confidence that someone that is really seeking in faith will find the truth.

A Muslim Web site posted 101 contradictions in the bible. They used the NAS.

The KJV cleared up 89 of these because the NAS needs lots of help. The rest were cleared up with understanding how God operates, which a Muslim would not know.

I think there was like one that seemed to contradict no matter what Translation you used, but God's Word does not contradict, and it's us that need more understanding, not God..

Your blessed!!!!

Jesus Is Lord.

My concern has nothing to do with KJV-only silliness.

KJV silly stuff.

Surely your not suggesting that believing the KJV to be the actual Word of God is silly??

Umph...

be blessed.

Does the NIV have a red letter edition with both the Greek and Hebrew/Chaldee Dictionary and exegetical headers and footnotes. I have been told they don't.

I have been finding very misleading and inconsistant info in the bibles friends from work use. One of which is the NIV.

The gender neutral debate I don't understand at all. Since God hasn't got a gender. God just is, that's all, no he, no she and especially NO MOTHER >> ROFL

but we can't be Jesus for everyone. I have full confidence that someone that is really seeking in faith will find the truth.

If we are of the Spirit, we don't have to be. But those that approach us with an open mind and heart we cannot turn away. Since we have the Spirit then we will know if the Spirit is in others, we have to help them understand the Spirit in them, they have to follow our example to allow them to see how they need to grow with the Spirit.

I myself have struggled with which version of the Bibile to read. I do understand most of what i read but not all, When the KJV was first written it was written in the form of how people spoke in that specific time and place. Today we dont speak that way, so for me it is sometimes hard for me to grasp everything i read. Yes i always pray before i read but i still dont grasp everything. My heart is indeed troubled with this, i feel like i need to get a more modern translation then the KJV but there are so many and i hear bad thing about some of them that i dont know which to get.

Intereting observation and question AllforHIS.

Jesus was obviously Male and God and he called God Father. There is certainly maleness there that is undeniable.

We know that God is not human and so the argument is he is not a HE but a Neutral. Yet when God came in Human form he chose male over female.

There is a push to try and change the Bible in many ways and of course it then changes some of the teaching.

There is a reason for God being male, it has to do with Divine order.

Of course God loves us both(male and female) equally but assigns us different roles on Earth. In heaven there will be no marriage etc.. so gender will not be an issue in Heaven.

Jesus who is God is male. When people say God is nuetral they are actually inadvertently making a case against the Divinity of Jesus Christ. That is one of the main attacks of Apostates and Heretics trying to descredit Jesus as being God. Our fundamental Christian teaching is that Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit are all One God, the same Diety.

God Himself is referred to as Father NOT PARENT(gender nuetral) by Jesus who came from heaven and would know how best to address God. Jesus wouldn't go around lying to us or teaching us something falsely.

However those who would rather believe the watered down, liberal Christian teachings rather than the Bible Truth will find it hard to remain in their faith if they allow it to be eroded here and there.

"Our Father who is in Heaven Holy be your Name."

God is of the male gender and Jesus is of the male sex. The so-called translators of the new NIV defended their gender neutrality by saying they still used masculine references to God. In one respect, I wish hadn't retreated from gender neutrality because this is a big warning flag to people that the NIV is PC correct, not biblically correct.

A lot of people have mentioned the verse where Paul says a woman is not to have authority over a man. The new NIV reads "assume authority", which implies that it's okay for a woman to be appointed or elected to leadership because then she didn't assume the role herself.

In many places were the Bible criticizes Jews, the new NIV changes the Bible and directs the criticism to leaders.

The new NIV translators want to remove the "sexism," "antisemitism," "homophobia," and other "bigotries" from the Bible. Many Christians already willfully misinterpret the Bible this way, to make the Bible more compatible with their worldly views. Look at the local threads on women ministers for an example.

Excellent thread and posts [with a couple of corrections hah!] thanks!! Good info.

Among the more valued of my possessions are 2 books. One is the Jehovah's Witness bible called 'New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures', a 1961 version and their original 'translation'. The other is a fragile 1917 edition of the book, 'The Finished Mystery - A Helping Hand for Bible Students', written by Charles Taze Russel the founder of Watchtower Society & Jehovah's Witnesses!

What is amazing is that despite intentional misinterpretations of the original manuscripts [if they ever laid eyes on them at all!] to change meanings in their 'bible' to match JW perverted doctrine, the fact of Salvation in Jesus Christ still shines through! That is, God will have His Perfect Word, regardless of the deceits and wickedness of men.

Their Bible in the preface claims tremendous responsibilty in accurate translation, yet a 1st year Greek student could quickly put their highly exhalted JW scholars to shame! Words, tenses, grammar and all are abominated to oblivion, yet Jesus speaks through the lies to an honestly seeking heart!

Also the book 'The Finished Mystery' is a copy before the JW's excised a bunch of controversial stuff. It even has Russel's original description of the moon, where he informs us in all his scholarly knowledge, or knowledgy scowlerness, that it is MADE OF GREEN CHEESE! Haaaaah! What a screamer, and he writes it with a straight face.

It's proven throughout history that God's Truth will be known among men such as He wills!

If I were to give letter grades to translations, I don't think I would be giving out an 'A's. None of the major modern translations are as literal as the KJV. But, the the language of the KJV is very dated. The KJV has other pluses and minuses.

The NASB has a good reputation. The ESV isn't bad.

I'm sort of fortunate in that I fell in love wiith the old English when I was a kid long ago, thanks to the author Geoffrey Chaucer ]Canterbury Tales etc.]. It was probably a setup by God, because when I first cracked open the King James Version 25+ years later after a dramatic salvation experience there was my beloved Olde English, as my truly Beloved spoke to me!

Anyways, there's online helps for old English definitions so that nobody has to suffer [much] or be denied understanding, plus there's books Like Strong's Concordance or even the good old Merriam Webster Dictionary. On Webster's it best to get an old one from the 50's to 60's maybe at a yard sale etc. because changes have been made, just like NIV.

Here's a link to online assistance in old English word definitions. If the link won't show up just type 'Bible old English translations' or 'Bible King James Version old English words' into a search engine like Yahoo.

Link to christiananswers.net dictionary: Archaic King James Words Defined [WebBible Encyclopedia]

Another option is the New King James Version, though some subtle changes in textual interpretation have ben made there. What's handy is to have the KJV original version, plus the New KJV to translate right there.

Wonderful sentiment, but unless you meet the Jesus of Scripture you haven't met HIM. As I am sure you are aware, there are many identities to this Jesus. The Roman Catholics have a Jesus, the Baptists have a Jesus, the Mormons have a Jesus, the Jehovah's witness have a Jesus, the Muslims have a Jesus, the Pentecostals have a Jesus, BUT THE JESUS OF SCRIPTURE IS SOMEONE ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT! The question is, HAVE YOU MET HIM?
