How many denominations out there partake of "The Lords supper?"
Do you use wine or grape juice?
Do you use unleavened bread or just regular bread?
I had a major issue yesterday picking up my younger brother from a bible camp and they used leavened bread. leaven is a picture of sin and Christ was sinless, therefore the bread should have no leaven, but i'd welcome any other views as i'm trying to learn here. this was far from my only problem with this "bible" camp, but for discussion sake ill keep those to myself.
as far as grape juice vs. wine, i'd like to hear arguments for both. my own understandings are that wine in itself is not sin, but being drunk on wine is:
(Ephesians 5:18) "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;"
(Proverbs 20:1) "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
(Proverbs 31:4-6) "It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: {5} Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. {6} Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts."
If we use the "law" of first mention we see the first time wine is mentioned in the texts is in (Genesis 9:19-24) "These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. {20} And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: {21} And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. {22} And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. {23} And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. {24} ¶And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him."
we see the first time wine is mentioned it leads to a very disgusting sin, but it wasn't the one who was drunk that sinned so much that what his son did to him while he was drunk.
I would lean toward grape juice for the simple fact that there may be recovered alcoholics in the crowd, but at the same time, the sacraments are for those who are saved and if you really are saved, The Lord promises you will not be tempted above which you are able (1 Corinthians 10:13) "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
please include scriptures for your argument, after all, our feelings aren't what's important here, but what do the scriptures say?
