Just believe and be saved! (Acts 16:30, 31) That was the almost constant cry I heard a TV preacher declare to his congregation, which happened to number into the tens of thousands.

There are a number of these preachers that claim, all you need to do it believe in Jesus, and you will be forever saved. Yet at the very least, the bible is absolutely clear in stating, you MUST repent in order to be saved. (2 Peter 3:9) Repent means to desist from ones former sinful works of the flesh, and adopt the fruitage of the spirit. This in itself can be described as works of faith. Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11: "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate , nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."

This clearly being what the bible says, why do so many embrace the false doctrine, "Just believe and be saved!" Is it because it is a false form of Christianity where a person does not have to do anything different or change their life stile, in order to be saved. A convenient Christianity were you only have to go to church once a week and just believe you are saved.

How do these TV preachers get away with telling these lies to so many people in their congregation. Do these people never read the bible to see what it says? I suppose they choose to believe in a self deluded form of faith. But if that is the case how can these possible be saved???

I think part of the problem may be that you have not given any explanation as to what "believe" means.

I don't see any problem with "believe and be saved". The question is, what does it mean to believe?

Is it because it is a false form of Christianity where a person does not have to do anything different or change their life stile, in order to be saved.

I agree with you. So much of Christianity is about how we do not need to change, because God loves us just the way we are, and besides, that's why Jesus died on the cross, to forgive us for not doing anything to change.

In fact, these people will go so far as to say that it contradicts God's grace for us to even try to be good, because Jesus "did it all on the cross".

They will even go so far as to say it's a sin to try to be good and that it is "working your way to Heaven" to even consider obedience to Jesus as a requirement of repentance.

HOWEVER, we should not take our frustration out on this false grace by blaming belief. Rather, we should seek to get a fuller understanding of what it means to believe.

For example, if I told you there is a bomb in the room which will explode at any moment, what will you do if you really believe me?

Will you feel it necessary to discuss the original greek meaning of the words I used? Would you feel it helpful to discuss my heritage or racial background? Perhaps it would be helpful to discuss what other people have to say about me? Maybe you would feel inclined to suggest that it is not a literal bomb I am talking about, or that the warning about the bomb is only meant for certain people, while others in the room will not be affected by the explosion.

Obviously, if you believe me, you will run out of the room as quickly as you can. Well, it's the same for the teachings of Jesus. If we believe him, we will do what he says.

How do these TV preachers get away with telling these lies to so many people in their congregation. Do these people never read the bible to see what it says?

Of course they read the Bible, but they have a large arsenal of tactics which they use.

One such tactic is to suggest that Jesus didn't really mean what he said.

Another tactic is to play one bit of scripture off another. This is particularly popular amongst legalists who never seem to have any interest as to how all the verses could possibly fit together into a whole; they only see one verse at time and they will chop and change through a large variety of verses to make a point.

Another tactic is to suggest that the really hard bits were only for certain people or that we are saved by grace so we don't need to do anything, except to say the sinners prayer, read a bible, go to church, and, of course, to tithe.

"and adopt the fruitage of the spirit. " you cant be spirit filled before your born again . i mean before you believe. This seems bit strange to me.

repentace shouldnt be like trying to earn it but turning from sin to God. Because we have choise do we goto sin or do we seek God. And when people turn to God they will be saved by faith of God's grace and not of works....
I think the key reason for repentance is the focus on God.

thats the way i see it......

Also id say we must truly believe in divine level thats faith given by God after all, i believe.

And by faith we become God's children. Which is life changing experince.. atleast something that you'll remember the day you accepted Jesus as your savior...

God bless you

I believe that God's word tells us we need faith for salvation, but does God's word ever say we need ONLY FAITH? Can anyone provide just ONE verse that states "Faith and faith ALONE is all that you need for salvation."?

God's word tells us throughout the bible that it takes MORE than faith for eternal life. But whenever those scriptures are mentioned, people say you read them wrong, they do not mean that, that is your wrong interpretation, or they do not apply and a number of other reasons.

But if you continue to read where it takes more than faith for eternal salvation/life and NO ONE EVER presents from God's word that "Faith and faith ALONE is all that you need for salvation.", who should the reader believe?

The one that 'claims' faith alone is all you need but NEVER presents a scripture that says so.....

Or.....

God's words that clearly state that it takes MORE that just having faith to receive eternal salvastion/life?

Do we go with man's claim....or God's words?

You would think the choice would be an easy one to make.

1. Could you please provide some scripture that supports what you say?

2. Could you please explain these 2 verses:

Luke 7:50
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Ephesians 2:8

James 2
[17] Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
[21] Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
[22] Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

And what was the works/action that Abraham did to prove his faith?

Drawing back the knife!

[25] Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

And what did Rahab to to prove her faith?

She allowed the messengers into her home.

In each case some sort of action/work was needed. Sitting still and believing proves nothing.

[26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Sorry, your verses prove nothing except, it is by faith that you are saved. You want to put works equal to faith and that is just not so. It is faith that saves and is followed by deeds.

Also, please explain the verses I quoted in my previous thread.

Peter summed up the other requirements for salvation very well in Acts 2:38.

Peter summed up the other requirements for salvation very well in Acts 2:38.

There is nothing extra here.

John the Baptist said that he baptized by water and He said that Jesus Christ baptizes by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus told Nicodemus that you must be born of the Holy Spirt.

Here is how you are saved:

Romans 10

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[d] that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11

I believe the instant that you do similiar to what Paul says above, you recieve the spirit of Jesus Christ and are saved and through faith there is no other requirements.

Your quote of Acts, means nothing more: faith is believing and encompasses seeing your sin and being repentive of them; all done simutaneously and you are baptized by the Holy Spirit and "Born Again"!

2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

But do ANY of them say that faith "ALONE" saves? NO! Not one! Nor will you EVER find one that says faith "ONLY" saves!

That's because God's word tells us that;

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

If you have no works, "FAITH" is DEAD!

So how can FAITH only save a person?

I'm not saying that you do NOT need faith. It's just that God's word tells us we need MORE than just faith!

Again...here is another scripture;

Heb.5
[9] And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

So now we see there is something ELSE needed for salvation; ALL MUST OBEY GOD!

So we need Faith! Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

We need works! For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

And now we read that we need to be obedient! And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

We continiue to find scriptures that says more is needed than just faith.

But NO ONE can provide just ONE scripture that says we ONLY NEED FAITH and FAITH ALONE for eternal salvation!

If there cannot be a scripture found that says FAITH IS ALL YOU NEED FOR SALVATION...can the statement be true?

God tells us we are to ONLY get our doctrine from HIs word..and we are to use ALL of His words for correction and reproof;

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"

Well.....if you cannot provide just ONE scripture that says "All you need is faith.", is it the doctrine of the bible? Should something be taught if it cannot be found within God's word?

Just ONE verse?

.

"I" am not saying that works is equal to faith....but GOD, on the other hand does say that faith without works is dead;

And again, GOD, not me said;

"And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;"

Let me ask you this...is this scripture NOT true?

Heb.5
[9] And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

If God said that eternal salvation is given to ALL that obey Him...was He lying? Is obedience to God something that is NOT needed for eternal salvation?

If it's not please quote scriptures stating this claim!

O.K., you still avoid answering my scriptures in my previous thread but I will still answer yours.

It is real simple actually:

Obeying him is works that prove our faith is alive.
Example:

John 13
34-35"Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other."

Your scripture quote:
Heb.5
[9] And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Yes, he is the author of eternal salvation and not from us or we could boast! Once saved, he lives in you and obeying him as in my example above in John, is the result of this salvation came because of your faith first!

  • The cross forgives
  • Faith saves by recieving the resurrected and eternal spirit of Jesus Christ inside you.
  • Obeying him is proof that you are saved and your faith is not dead.
Works are a result of your fath and salvation but works absolutely can not be a prerequiste to your salvation or you could boast and that would put you right back under the law and a leaglistic system that God said he abolished.

Paul tell us that it takes more than faith to be saved

before a person can believe in Jesus he or she has to hear the word of God.

what we hear today is denominational doctrine.

Romans 10

11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

i wonder why?

You of course have a right to your theology but most of us here see that you and Eccl think that you are saved by your works and not by the grace of God alone and, that is no salvation at all.

It was Abraham's faith and then by the grace of God that saved Isaac and nothing more. And, as far as Eccl's comment:

And what was the works/action that Abraham did to prove his faith?

Drawing back the knife!

The irony and contradiction of his statement. Again, the two of you want to make work equal with faith. Above, it is a contradiction that you agree that faith comes first. The works/action of Abraham are merely a result of his faith, not a requirement but, his obeying God's command. In this case, Abraham's faith was alive and well because he proved his faith by of obeying God and, God credited him with righteousness because of his faith.

No offense but, I think neither of you just don't get it or just don't want to in order to support your own theology.

Consider these, also from James chapter 2:

2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 2:22 You see that his faith was working together with his works and his faith was perfected by works.

1. James was writing to believers, people who are already believed, therefore saved. Otherwise, he calls unbelievers brothers and sisters in this book. Brothers and sisters in what?

2. Saved people comes in stages, there are immature and mature believers. James was describing a working or mature faith, like Abraham's at the point of Isaac's sacrifice. The Abraham who drew the knife wasn't the same person as Abraham who coerced Sarah into deceiving Pharaoh in fear of his own neck. The former was mature-in-faith, and the latter was immature-in-faith.

3. We were justified by faith. Remember Paul's writing in Romans 4:2 For if Abraham was declared righteous by the works of the law, he has something to boast about – but not before God.
Abraham was justified by faith in the beginning. The question here is: what kind of faith? The answer is: the kind that grows as indicated by his works (much) later on.

4. Works perfect faith (in the above passage, the word here means 'to complete'). Without works that reflects our faith, our faith does not grow. Therefore this passage is not telling us that faith + work = salvation -- otherwise we have something to boast about, which is contrary to the central message of the Gospel. But this passage teaches us that non-demonstrated faith are faith that are useless, and not growing or maturing.

What do you think?

Ya all make it so complicated. It is so very simple.
I remember when I accepted Jesus, he convicted me to repent and say I was sorry for many things.

Even today I might do something kinda stupid and he will say....look you dummy, this is wrong, you should act this way, not that way.

Or I will hear something said, and go run and ask for the answer, it may come fast or in a day or two and makes perfect sense when it does.

So very simple, so very true, such a thing is by design of God.

Beware of religion, it is not always the truth. We put way too much effort into justification of this or that, when all it takes is simple acceptance.

I do not think it is possible to accept Jesus if you really do and not be convicted that you need to change. And he is the teacher from then on.

None of us will ever be perfect, you see God knows this, and this is the whole game plan.

All so very simple........Praise to God for all things and the way of understanding to us.

Do not worry about false preachers, even in the middle of false doctrine people are saved. Yes some with emotion will follow men, but eventually they will break from that and God will win the battle with the mind......

I am so, I was baptized in a church where many false things were presented. But the truth was there too.......

I turned out OK........

I will tell you all my story soon, my baptism, and how things were and how it all played out. I am simply waiting for the right way and time.....or may just post a thread and tell all. I find it so amazing, and it so spoke to me, and it all began in deception.

It convinced me, as needed for me, that God is so very real, and now no words of man can ever sway me .

But even in the midst of deception, good comes out of it.

Kit

How many words can we type......this will be long. My wife is shopping, waiting for her to come back and guard the phone so I can mow the huge six acres, clean it up for fall. Not much to do, so here is my story in the middle of deception I was saved.

Do you believe the fact that where we assemble to worship God I will be there......well I believe that and I am proof of it.

Let me set the stage read my humor with humor, but listen to the truth.

So I knew about God, kinda luke warm, but had never really sought for him, but he was pulling at me, he was trying to get me to seek him out I know this now , did not understand it at the time, all I knew was something was missing. I went to this church and that one, nothing ever really clicked.....and one day I wandered into a Pentecostal church and just sat down in the back row. Curious.

Now these folks are crazy...for sure. But they are not dead. Lol!
Getting ahead of things a bit , there was great deception and control of the people. There were false messages in tongues with false interpretations also in non understandable tongues, I mean if you are going to tell me something, I do need to understand it right?? So it was all nonsense. They would even go into self hypnosis and fall over and all allowed themselves to be controlled by their emotions.......funny thing is I never did fall over as they say.....slain in the spirit. But I could feel the spirit of God. God was there. I knew that, did not understand that, but so very curious. I discovered they had microphones in certain areas of the pews,so some strange message in tongues could be sent to the people by speaker from an hidden area, and then some other member would stand and interpret this again in some language that I could not comprehend. I was in the midst of deception.

Then came the demons and the casting out of demons and the faith healing and the laying on of hands......they were a bit scared of me as I would not self induce a trance, so the preacher just told me , Kit you have no demons......Lol!! I dunno about that sometimes it is fun to be the devil and full of mischief. Ha!

In the midst of this as time went on they tried to break up my marriage. You see I married a Hindu, a heathen. Not only was she a heathen but she was not of my race, and they were using the old testament to sway me. 'They had me convinced I did have demons......oh my........well nuff of this as you get the picture. A lot of deception. But in it as God says, those who assemble in my name I will be there. Oh how so true.

So I decided in this journey of experience to be baptized, along with my wife. So they dressed us up in a robe, and they had a large tub you walked down into and you were drowned in the tub and you were supposed to surface and arise with some great message of the spirit and provide a message in tongues to the church members.......so they were all gathered around more than a hundred of them......waiting the great revelation.
My wife was baptized first, and her eyes pleaded with me, Kit get me out of here, I am scared of these people, she said not a word, and more than one frown was apparent.

Then it was my turn, and I am still the doubting one......also wondering what I have done......so they drowned me and up I popped......I stood there a minute and then did say this.

I said Elshadia is my god. They all did not hear this, one said it sounded like Latin...not sure........the thing is I understood it, but I know no Latin, I am just an uneducated guy who barely knows the English language, let alone anything else......so they Praised God and some of them fell out and spoke in more Giberish and baby talk......all self induced.

But I was standing there with this overpowering spirit of God on me, my wife felt it too......you see God was there , for us, truth was there. God was there, he had used it to find me and show us himself......why, do not know, I guess it took this to wake me up.

For quite a few years after that and we did leave those folks very soon after that, I searched for Elshadia, did not understand it and then one day , I was looking for the history of religion and Christ and so on ,and there it was.....one of the old names given to God.

I looked at that.....absorbed it and the hair on my whole being stood up.......it was at this point I knew for sure.

So do not judge things on the surface......good is present where there is deception.

Where we assemble in the name of God......he is really there.

For each of us he has a life changing event, it may take us time to realize it, but it will come.

Respectfully

Kit

=RJ;188269]You of course have a right to your theology but most of us here see that you and Eccl think that you are saved by your works and not by the grace of God alone and, that is no salvation at all.

It was Abraham's faith and then by the grace of God that saved Isaac and nothing more. And, as far as Eccl's comment:

where do you read the word grace when it comes to abraham?

here is what is written about abraham and faith

Genesis 26:5
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

my theology is reading what is written not adding words like some here do.

Abraham obeyed God's voice by KEEPING God's commandments

maybe some here don't understand that keeping God's is work.

lets read some more on abraham concerning his works which is faith

Galatians 3:6
Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+3:5-7&version=KJV

according to God what is righteousness?

lets read where the commandments is righteousness before the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:24-25

24And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. 25And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

so what is Abraham faith that he showed to God what is abraham righteousness before the Lord? what works did abraham do?

he kept the commandments, he obeyed God, he listend to God's voice and did what he was told to do.

so much for denominational doctrine and theory we read what abraham did.

abraham don't need to make a big deal about grace like the denominations do today

he knew he was under grace, his grandfather Noah was under grace
as was all the patriarchs
