Just believe and be saved! (Acts 16:30, 31) That was the almost constant cry I heard a TV preacher declare to his congregation, which happened to number into the tens of thousands.
There are a number of these preachers that claim, all you need to do it believe in Jesus, and you will be forever saved. Yet at the very least, the bible is absolutely clear in stating, you MUST repent in order to be saved. (2 Peter 3:9) Repent means to desist from ones former sinful works of the flesh, and adopt the fruitage of the spirit. This in itself can be described as works of faith. Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11: "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate , nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."
This clearly being what the bible says, why do so many embrace the false doctrine, "Just believe and be saved!" Is it because it is a false form of Christianity where a person does not have to do anything different or change their life stile, in order to be saved. A convenient Christianity were you only have to go to church once a week and just believe you are saved.
How do these TV preachers get away with telling these lies to so many people in their congregation. Do these people never read the bible to see what it says? I suppose they choose to believe in a self deluded form of faith. But if that is the case how can these possible be saved???
