John 1:1 Explanation revision

Think about the logic of what you are advocating. You are claiming that Jesus is himself the product of creation. John 1:3 tells us that "All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being." Jesus cannot be the Creator of all things if he is a product of creation himself. Surely you would not contend that he created himself. Everything that was created both in heaven and earth, in the visible realm and the invisible realm is the product of his hands. Only God can create. Jesus is the God of the Old Testament. Compare Isaiah 6 and John 12:41. John tells us that Jesus is the God whom Isaiah say sitting on the throne of heaven.

I am sure you will probably not read this post but since you claim that Philippians 2:3-11 is so often taken out of context and for the sake of those who will read this post I offer this exegesis of that text.

In Philippians 2:6, the apostle Paul begins with the acknowledgment that Jesus is God and provides us with a revealed analysis of his redemptive function. Paul does not begin his discussion of Jesus from the vantage point of the incarnation but from that of eternity. What Paul stresses in the first part of this chapter is the example of humility that Jesus modeled for us in his willingness to divest himself of this form for a time on our behalf. This of course does not suggest that he ceased be God. He does not strip himself of deity. I am quite sure that we will never fully understand all that is involved in Jesus’ emptying himself of divine form and equality. All we can rely on is the language of the text. Ἐκένωσεν is third person singular aorist first indicative of κενόω which means to empty or to lay aside. How do we explain that even in the flesh he is still God yet remains so without retaining anything that defines divine nature? Perhaps ‘to lay aside’ offers the best explanation. He lays it aside as one would a garment and in Hebrews chapter one (which we will study in the next lesson) where we will see him take it up again.

Emptying of Form: Emptied is the verb that defines the action. Equal is an adjective that defines his nature. Equality is a noun that tells what was emptied out.

This is not a passive action. This is self-actuating. No one is doing this to him. He is the one who does the emptying. What he empties out of himself is both equality with God and divine nature. He must possess these qualities intrinsically in order to empty them out of himself.

Emptying of Form
In order for Jesus to fulfill his redemptive mission, he must first assume a fleshly posture. We can find at least four reasons for this in scripture. 1) Divine essence cannot die. As man he will die. 2) The requirements of the Law of Moses required a sacrifice of flesh and blood. Divine essence is not made of flesh and blood. 3) His heritage must come from a specific fleshly linage. As God, he has no linage. 4) The demands of the Law were imposed upon man and it required that man fulfill them. The Law required not only that man fulfill its demands but that only a man of the seed of Abraham to whom the Law was given. Thus, a Gentile could never have satisfied the demands of the Law, Romans 1:1-5.

Fulfilling the function of a sacrifice required that he assume the form of a sacrifice. In this metamorphosis, he poured out of himself every expression of deity. Divine essence is now submitted to limitations. As God, these characteristics of essence are, by their very nature, without boundaries or limitations, but as man, he will be subject to all of the same sets of determined relations that limit all men. Divine character is now submitted to vulnerability. As God, he cannot be tempted, but as man, he yields his divine character to the onslaught of Satan. He becomes the second Adam. He exposes his own moral integrity to the same temptations that are common to all men, Hebrews 2:18, 4:15, and 5:2. Yet, unlike Adam, he maintains his integrity all the way to the cross, Hebrews 4:15 and 2:9. He succeeds where Adam failed. He simply never sinned.

Emptying of Equality
The word ἴσα is nominative and accusative plural neuter of ἴσος which suggests equality in quantity or quality, (Thayer's p 307). This is the same language used by Jesus in Matthew 20:12. Here, Jesus relates the parable of the workers in the vineyard. The accusation by those who had labored all day was that the Master was unjust because in giving equal wages to those who had worked fewer hours than they had worked he had granted them ἴσους – equal status. Paul now uses this same word to express the nature of Jesus’ divine status. He is equal to God. Ἁρπαγμὸν is the act of seizing, robbery, Thayer's p 74. Note bene, it is his equality with God that Jesus did not regard as robbery to possess. He did not gain his divine equality by an act of seizure or robbery. This equality is his by right of divine nature.

The Form of a Servant
Taking the form of a servant is an exchange of μορφὴν / nature. He exchanged the essence of God for the essence of man. Spirit clothes itself with flesh, John 1:1-2, Hebrews 2:14 and 10:5-10. This is much more than just a transformation from spirit to flesh. Every attribute that defined him as God will either be submitted to limitations or subjected to vulnerability. Omnipotence yields itself to dependency. The all-sufficient one now becomes fully dependent, Isaiah 12:2, John 5:30 and Matthew 4:1-10. How can we envision the Creator of the universe emptying himself of all power and submitting as an infant into the care of frail, week, virtually helpless man? How can man care for God? To do this would require an absolute dependency upon the Father for his safekeeping as he grows to manhood. He became subject to all of the same sets of determined relations that are part of all human existence. Omniscience gives way to revelation. He must learn God’s will as a man and submit to it, Hebrews 10:7, Deuteronomy 18:18-19, John 12:49-50 and 17-4. Omnipresence confines itself to the limitations of time and space. His Eternal nature is surrendered for mortality - he became subject to death. The transcendent One became an equal among his fleshly brethren, Hebrews 2:17. The unified One became the cursed of God, Mark 15:34, Galatians 3:13 and 2Corinthians 5:21. The unchanging One became subject to change. He not only changes form, but his fleshly form will also be subject to all of the changes of natural biological processes.

Consider the attributes of a δοῦλος
In keeping with the posture of a δοῦλος – servant / slave, Paul says that he did nothing through selfishness; that he did not seek his own glory but regarded others more important than himself. He placed the needs of others above his own. He emptied himself. The servant reserves nothing of himself. He stands stripped of all personal will. All has become completely subjected. This is total surrender of control. Now, he is in the likeness of man. In the beginning, God, this God, created man in his own image, according to his own likeness. Now, this same God steps out of eternity into time to be made in the image of his creation - man. The Creator becomes the creature. The Lord of all becomes the servant of all. The Governor of the universe becomes subordinate to another and all of this by his own will.

A Cloak of Humility, Philippians 2:8
Humility is not foreign to the character of man but rather intrinsic to it. Humility is demonstrated by obedience that characterized the life and ministry of the Lord. He “became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” ‘Became’ suggests a change of status. Before assuming the posture of a man, he is not subject to deity as a subordinate creature or even as a lesser member of the triadic unity. This is a process of character development as a man, Matthew 26:52-54. He must learn obedience to the will of God as a man, completely subject to the will of the Father, Hebrews 5:8-9. He did not allow his status as Son of God to exempt him from the obligation of obedience. What then did he learn about obedience? Gerald Paden of the Sunset International Bible Institute suggests there are at least eight things that scripture reveals about this learning process.
1. He learned its duty - Even though he was a son - This is the duty of sonship.
2. He learned its necessity - The cup cannot pass unless he drinks it.
3. He learned its demand - All that I am and all that I have – This is total consecration.
4. He learned its cost - For a time, it cost him even heaven itself. In the end, even his human life.
5. He learned its integrity - He kept the law of God all the way to the cross.
6. He learned its honor - He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey.
7. He learned its reward - He was highly exalted and given a name that is above every name. Because he learned all these things, he is now able to lay hold of the reward of obedience.
8. “Even death on the cross.” This is the last, greatest act of humility. It is the culmination of everything in the purpose of God to redeem man back to himself.

This is the last full measure of devotion for loves sake. He does not even consider equality with man a thing to hold on to. He even pours himself out to become the cursed of the cursed, Galatians 3:13 and Deuteronomy 21:23.

Enthroned and Glorified, Philippians 2:9-11
A. “Therefore” (because he humbled himself) God highly exalted him, 9.
1. 1Peter 3:22 - “Gone into heaven...” Acts 2:34
2. Ephesians 1:20 - “Seated at God’s right hand in the heavenly places
3. Hebrews 1:3 - “Sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
4. Daniel 7:13-14 - “Ascended to the Ancient of Days.”

B. “Given a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow,” 9-10 and Romans 14:11 - “Every knee shall bow and confess that Jesus is Lord / Jehovah,” Isaiah 45:23.

1. The life and light of Men said he came out of the God in John 16:27.

2. The life and light of Men is the firstborn of creation Col 1:15 . Of Creation.
The Son is of Creation and Creation is of him he came out of. Heb 1:1-2

3. Pro 8:23 and Gen 1:1 are key scriptures. From the beginning or ever the earth was, Wisdom was Possesed and The Son was also Possesed because he came out of God confirmed in John 16:27 and is a witness also 1Jn 5:7 and beginning of creation of God Rev 3:14. A son comes forth from a Father. Also of is possesion. Son of God or Son of The Father.

Wisdom and The Son are prior to Gen 1:1 therefore not to be included in John 1:3 to answer you more clearly.
John 1:3 is after Pro 8:23 and John 16:27 and during from Gen 1:1

The Son was doing The will of The only True God.

Also just because our Lord "The Angel of The Lord" declared The Lord our God does not mean he is God because The Lord our God himself is our God and one Lord.
----------------------------------------
Act 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

I suspect it is our responsbility to understand That God The Father of Lights who is The Lord our God is one Lord and the only True God with the life an light of men being the Son of God and mediator between Man and God

We disagree on the precepts. I cleave to precepts that I believe and use to validate him being the Son of God and the one who sent him being the only true God. You on the other hand cleave to precepts that you believe or use to validate him as God.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All babies are by the woman but that does not mean that the babies are of the woman.

Babies are born of Man's bone and flesh of Man's flesh because the seed is his but the world don't understand such things
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what if creation in the heaven and the earth is by the Son , that all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The same Son of God and The Spirit of God was with The Lord God in the beginning. All Creation is of The Lord God and we in him and the increase being solely of him who is a Jealous God and The only True God that possesed all of Creation; The Father of Lights who is The Ancient of Days who is The Lord God who is The Most High himself.

Keep trying to use Greek wisdom to make the only begotten of The Father into The Father of Lights himself ; and someday you may just see first hand That The Son is not good, But The Father of Lights who instructed him to do his will and who The increase is Of.

The Son of God who came out of God is The Mediator between Man and God.
The Father of Lights is The Lord his God and The Lord our God.

The Lord of our Lord who is God of our Lord is one Lord and himself.
The Lord our God is not one in three Lords but one Lord.

Joh 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
-----------------------

The Son is not The Lord but our Lord who declared him. Their is a difference that the King David understood.

Mat 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
Mat 22:42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
Mat 22:43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Mat 22:45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

If David calls The Son of God Lord; Then how is the Son The Lord our God who is one lord? Especially considering that The Lord our God gave our Lord instructions to follow.

Jacob personally understood That the increase is of The Lord God when the Son of God could not prevail against him. Jacob is a witness begotten of The Hebrews because of The faith of Abraham The Hebrew. Unto the Hebrews were given the oracles of God not the Greeks. Greek understanding should not be used to supplant Hebrew understanding. The Greek must conform to the Hebrew understanding. For example you cannot use the greek understanding that Christ died on a Friday and rose on a Sunday. This is just one of many examples.

Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
1Jn 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Mar 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

1Jn 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
1Jn 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
1Jn 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
1Jn 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1Jn 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The fact that many "who say that God literally came in the flesh" is going to worship their god and christ on his birthday
December 25 "less than four sabbaths aways" is testament to this. Because apparently god was literally made flesh as the world says and man has seen god. the image of their god not even middle eastern . deception upon deception

Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. seen = saw

Joh 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. bare record = testified

the linguistics is simple.
John saw The Word That was with God, That was God, who is The Son of God because No man hath seen God at any time and The Word declared him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since the Greeks have the wisdom of the Hebrews drop the name of the Father of Greeks during the tower of babel. You can even drop the name in the greek characters/ alphabet . A living soul is spirit and flesh and the spirit is inquiring.

If you are going to cleave to wisdom of the Greeks, to ascertain the understanding of the Hebrews Abraham The Son of Eber. The least you can do is drop the name of The Father of The Greeks, or The Father of who may have later on displaced The Greeks and worshiped Zeus/Nimrod during the time of confusion before the languages were confounded and Eber crossed over ; wiping his hands of That Madness.

Nothing else I have to add.

Actually I do have one more thing to add. What was already said.

John 1:1 Explanation
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

1. Most assume because Word was God that Word is God. However John did not bare record of this

John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

2. John also said in the same Chapter

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

3. So we know John bare record that the word is the Son of God.
4. We also know John stated No man hath seen God at any time.
5. At any Time.
6. So Why was The Word God?

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

7. So why did John not bare record that this is God?

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

8. We see in 1Co 8:6 that all things are by The Word ; So The Word made all things
9. However we also see in 1Co 8:6 that Creation was of God. That it is the will of God and God who authorized it to begin with. Not The Son

10. We see further confirmation in Hebrews 1:1-2 & Proverbs 30:4. Also take noticed who is credited
Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Pro 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

11. Also we Know God has no beginning or end however The Word is stated to be The Firstborn & Beginning of Creation.

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Rev 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

12. We have further confirmation that The same Word was in the beginning with God but no mention of prior to the beginning with God /
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
---------------------------------------------------------

The above post is to supplement this post. John 1:1 Explanation
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Also add

Joh 16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
Joh 16:26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
Joh 16:27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
Joh 16:28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
Joh 16:29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
Joh 16:30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
Joh 16:31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

Normally is most expedient to get understanding from the Chapter the verse is in thru the surrounding precepts. I percieved myself to have done that and I also look within other Chapters and the volume of the book for conformity. So when I see John 1:1 I now see John 3:35 because of how simple and in conformity it is so in other words.

Joh 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

along with

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Joh 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Joh 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Joh 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

This is my takeaway from John Chapter 1 . Since no man has seen God and Joh 1:2 the word must have had the authority of God since he was God which is confirmed throughout scripture but John 3:5 is sufficient for me personally. Thought I had mentioned this.

I think it is safe to say that I am wasting my time with you on this. For whatever reason, you cannot seem to get it into your mind that "Son of God" = God. John made a categorical statement that the Word was God. The tense of the verb is irrelevant. Any interpretation of any other passage of scripture that contradicts this testimony is a false interpretation. Scripture does not contradict itself. If he is not God then John's statement is false and his testimony is untrue. If his statement is true then your understanding of God is fundamentally flawed. I shall give you the last word if you desire and then I am done. I will however respond to questions from others on this matter.

Hello,
I do believe we've gone as far as we can go in attempting to dissect John 1:1 without actually reposting the entirety of Scripture.
I also, want to thank all who have contributed to this thread.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
