Is Harry Potter Evil?

Again if anyone has any evidence to support this claim that harry potter is demonic then we can discuss it. But I am done trying to argue against rumors and groundless accusations.

But we can talk about other things.

Let scripture speak, let the Spirit of the Living God penetrate your heart, stand outside your life's picture, see things from God's position my friend and heed the warnings.

Bless you
I have had a relationship going on 9 years now. Not nearly as long as some of the people on here. During that time God has shown me alot of better options. My taste in music has drastically changed, so has my taste in television. I have only kept one friend from before I met Christ and he was my old youth minister. There has been alot of convictions on how I interacted with people. I have had to tell the truth when it would cause me alot of sorrow to do so. But never once has God ever suggested to me that Harry Potter was evil or demonic or that I should stay away from it. In fact I was shown that the books had good lessons to teach in there. My relationship with God has grown in those 9 years. I am secure in the God that I know. So why haven't I been hindered in all of that time like it is so often warned here. Why has my relationship grown?

Should I listen to what the Holy Spirit tells me in regards my walk with God or the groundless accusations on here. Again if you want to make the claim that Harry Potter is witchcraft. Then just prove it. Otherwise there is no ground to stand on. If that is what we are doing than I am just as right in saying that people who were in churches in the 50s through the 70s were racist.

@Brother Paul

I disagree with you comment about fiction. An Adult has experienced more of life than kids have. 'We' understand the difference between fact and fiction. Kids - not especially. As has been pointed out -- there isn't anything inherantly okay with witchcraft / sorcery , etc. God's Word is Very specific about it. We -- as Adults are to be guiding our children to Good, Safe outlets For our imaginations. Get our kids a box of building blocks -- let them discover good ways building things.

Sometimes kids grow up in less than the best set of circumstances. Lots of kids do. So they need Positive guidelines presented to them. Encourage kids to draw pictures to express what's going on inside of them. Learn to play a musical instrument. Get them into outdoor activities. Playing catch -- running, etc.

The entertainment presented in Harry Potter leaves a great deal to be desired. For the sake of the kids -- stay Away from it.

And, your last comments -- yes, Be the best follower of Christ that you can be. Kids Do follow the leading of adults. And, yes , Do pray for our kids -- and absolutely read God's Word in your home. All these things are in direct contradiction to what's in Harry Potter stories.

Witch craft is very Real -- spells Are cast on people. Years ago when my older daughter was in high school, she was getting to know a guy down the street. His Mom and aunt were into all of that. One Halloween they wanted their son to go to a real Halloween party -- complete with all the real trimmings. He didn't want to -- so at the party they decided to have some fun with him. He called our daughter totally freaked out. All of a sudden chairs were moving, cupboard doors were opening and shutting on their own. 'they' were 'having fun' with their witch craft abilities. Well -- witches / warlocks are satan followers. They have covens like we have churches. satan is the Enemy of God.

So to sluff off Harry Potter as harmless fiction is pure craziness.

That's fine. We can agree to disagree. I also believe practicing witchcraft or sorcery is wrong and evil (and all my children were taught this) and I have never personally read a single Harry potter book (but I have seen two movies). Also I am and was a good parent so do not go there (making this some personal judgment). You do not know me or anything about me. And I do know the difference and have had personal experience with real magic and fake malarkey like their parlor tricks.

I would be foolish to ignore that there is a possibilty. There is also a possibility ending up at the same result by researching the salem witch trials for history class. The devil can use many different ways to trap the weak. What if a person recently lost a loved one and ended up reading about how the witch of Endor called someone from the dead would it be unreasonable to suggest that person might be tempted to learn about communing with demonic spirits by scripture itself? Do we then exclude a game that could have positive benefits, or stop researching history, or tear out verses like that because a person is weak? Or should we rather instruct and educate, build up those who are weaker? I think the issue lies in our choices. If a person ends up messing with demons after playing a game or any of the numerous other paths, is it the fault of the game or the person making those choices. If the blame lies in the game at all then I would also ask how does something incur a moral debt when it is incapable of making moral decisions?

You seem to be very reasonable. And it is perfectly fine with me if you do not like this stuff. But there is something that I want to discuss. It is a habit with alot of church people to label those who have differing views as being bad or weak christians. I say that I find no problem with them and that my conscience is perfectly clear in regarda to it. Could it be said that I am a bad christian or that I am being spiritually led astray? I am sure that you have read many of my other posts in other threads, does any of those other posts show any sign of spiritual misguidance?

Hello Brother,
I'm assuming this one post was for me
To your opening comment above. Then why make the statement that you made? You continue to equivocate by using fallacious examples that are not logically sound in an attempt to make your point that their is nothing inherently wrong with the subjects at hand. While Scripture portrays the subject of witchcraft in the opposite fashion. Letting one know that it is something that should not be done. Scripture has been shown by others so I won't repeat them that this is so.

Understand that I do this not because I don't like it, but because Scripture is clear that witchcraft is wrong. I'd love to read the books, and watch the movies. Supposedly they are well done. If not they probably would not have made the millions, upon millions of dollars from a world that is seeking entertainment/enjoyment/fulfillment wherever they can find it. I myself used to enjoy reading this type of genre. At least until Scripture showed the wrongness of it, and the Holy Spirit guided me on what to do. I destroyed over three hundred dollars in books on this type of subject matter years ago. When my son asked me why didn't I just sell them to recoup some of the money I'd spent. I told him, why would I sell something I believed to be wrong, so that someone else could get poisoned by them? My son the teenager understood this. I find it difficult to understand how a professing man of God doesn't. Blaming it on the church is a no go brother. We are the church! You, me, and every other believer with Christ Jesus as the Head is the Church, no matter the building/denomination we belong to. Don't confuse them, and allow their confusion to color what Scripture is clear about.

We're trying to be reasonable concerning a subject that is mentioned in Scripture in the negative, and something that should not be done. There is no question that Harry Potter is using if anything the backdrop of witchcraft in a setting of learning to be the best that one can be at it. Meaning it's showing witchcraft in the positive and not the negative that Scripture says it is. This is wrong, regardless of the life lessons you believe one can receive from them. Since you're familiar with it. Does it mention Jesus Christ as the only way one can be saved, or does it provide a pseudo-type savior that one can latch onto, or even one that can be found in oneself without the need of a Christ? Make the right decisions and sacrifice yourself for another and you'll be saved, no need for Jesus! I won't even go into the New Age aspects that this type of genre facilitates.

I can do no more on this. Each one of us must make decisions on these types of subjects in our lives. All I can hope for is that each person will peruse Scripture before and after introduction into this type of fiction. This way at least they'll be able to see with Holy Spirit help if they're a believer, what is true, verses what is only partially true. For the non-believer who is seeking to get away from the world's stresses....come to Jesus Christ, for no imaginary character is going to save you or provide the rest of spirit that you not only seek, but need in order to be complete. That is why these type of books and movies have you wanting more of them. You'll never be filled by them, unlike my Jesus who fills one up through the Holy Spirit to overflowing!! Alleluia!!

As you can see there really is not much more for us to cover.
Praying for you and yours brother.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

I'll also pray about how long to leave this thread open, for I don't see much more that can be gained from it. I'll also ask others on staff their take as well moving forward.

I agree witchcraft is evil and must be avoided. What I disagree with is that harry potter is witchcraft.

I agree this thread is pretty much finished.

Hello Brother,
I am not saying that HP is witchcraft. What I'm saying is that it "promotes" it and can lead the unwary to actual witchcraft!

I am with you on this thread being pretty much finished.

With the Love of Christ Jesus Brother.
Take care.

I thought about replying about this. But I want to move on. I regret starting this thread to be honest.

However much we have disagreed on here I have enjoyed talking with you.
