Is America Babylon?

My wife and I have not been into a church building for many many years. We no longer even know what goes on there. But my wife's bible is falling apart from long use. Mine is still holding together, but she also keeps notes in her Book. I keep mine separate. LOL We strongly believe that one CANNOT read the Word intellectually. It MUST be read in the presense of the Holy Spirit with the attitude of 'He is out teacher' If one wants to do it intellectually, he might as well have LBD.... Yes. I do get a lot of laughs out of having dementia...Though sometimes I wonder if it isn't the world that has dementia and not me?
That could be a very convincing argument! With all the insanity that we will be up against very soon and are seeing signs of already, I am grateful the Lord provided an outlet through the sense of humor. With all due respect though I do not take religion as a laughing matter, for I do have a conservative view and find many things blasphemous on tv and in American culture. However I do love to laugh and not take EVERYTHING so seriously, especially myself.

That's an absolute nonsense reading of scripture and I'm sure you know it. It doesn't fit at all with the way congregations behaved or were taught in New Testament times.

It is absolutely crystal clear that all followers of Christ organised themselves in small communities that met - worshipped, ate together, shared words of prophecy, leaned together, prayed and supported each other's needs.

Each community also had a structure in which elders could teach newer members, and in which members who strayed could be disciplined or corrected.

If a person chooses to stay outside of a local fellowship in which they can serve and be supported by others, he or she is being disobedient to the scriptures.

You cannot claim to have a high view of the congregation and at the same time urge people to leave their congregation.

Jesus' ministry on earth is the blueprint and conduct of Christianity. Name the address where Jesus as the elder taught. You can't because he was always on the move. Show me the organization. A group of 12 men that were students and then became independent just like Jesus, and were always on the move preaching the word of God. Show me all the wealth Jesus accumulated whilst on earth, all the tithes. You can't. 50 pieces of silver and that was stolen.

Christ driven Christianity is a lifestyle, not an organization. If people met in a small group, prayed, and worshiped, its not because of a centralized figure, needing resources so he or she can make a living. Its because coming together at a home felt good at the moment the idea was conceived.

The problem with people is that need to feel that they belong to something. Belonging gives them a sense of purpose. That sense of purpose gives them a drive to do something. There I just described the church, the building, where it fills with lots of people needing to belong to something each Sunday morning.

Christianity is not gnostic. Each individual has a relationship with God as opposed an organization of individuals in building required to listen to the point of view of a single man or woman and somehow, the organization of individuals draw closer to God. Think of this forum as a place of where we all meet at random times and talk about what we think about God getting many points of views and learning as opposed to one man or woman saying, this is the word of God and its my privilege to show you the truth because I'm an elder.

Christianity requires personal responsibility because its between you and God as opposed to you and the elders, the priests, the monks, the educated wise man of many so called divine universities.

Christianity is individually driven between God and the individual as opposed to sitting in building on Sunday morning being made feel guilty for raising your hand up with wads of cash and stealing from the house of God. An individual gives because he or she wants to not because they have to. An individual Christian understands that their own well being must come first in care and he or she can give and help. Its called stewardship and it requires no guilt to operate.

Christianity is subjective to each person. Its subjective because God meets that person where they are and changes them from that start point to a Godly individual. The path each person takes is different, but can also have a lot of similar qualities or things in common that can draw people closer to each other. For example, my family, we were in the occult for many years and God delivered us. So our journey, our path is not going to be same as someone who was delivered from say being a porn star, a homeless vagabond, or a selfish, cruel bureaucrat in government. Our starting points are different and so our relationship with God will be subjective and told from our viewpoint. Doing so enables others to see God from different perspectives. All perspectives should arrive at one single conclusion or description. Its doesn't arrive to one conclusion because the pope, the mega pastor or the tele-evangelist says this is it but rather via an epiphany, as individuals we serve the same God and it didn't require some special knowledge or privilege human being to make it so.

Christianity is lifestyle. There shouldn't be a need to identify as a group and thus enable a leader of sorts. There shouldn't be a movement that seeks to overthrow, but rather changes organically because the heart changes. Organization is problematic and should only be implemented in achieving feats of effort among individuals who agree to achieve a mutual goal as opposed to forming an organizations of identity, collecting taxes or tithes so that so called wise men and elders can justify their expertise and make a living.

There's a thread here which opens out these kinds of issues.

I have to agree with this way of thinking. While going to a so-called " mega- church" I noticed that the people made a big deal out of putting all their hundreds in the envelope and making sure people saw them when they tithed but I had just been saved, was struggling to get on my feet and literally spent my last money for the bus to get there and they made me feel ashamed when I would just pass the bowl with their looks or they would look me up and down and snicker and it was humiliating. To me I was just grateful to be there and felt I had come a long way from where I had started. When I found myself needing some help I went to them and they said they only helped refugees from other countries. I told them I had been coming there for almost a year and had no other options at my disposal. They then wanted my proof of how much I had tithed but I had given cash, when I had it and had no " proof". Since I hadn't written any checks that they would've put in the computer they turned me away. I felt like this wasn't what Jesus intended because this church had a congregation of at least 3,000 people every Sunday. The bill I needed help with was $160. I wasn't asking for cash. Needless to say my utilities got shut off in the middle of winter and my daughter had to go live with her dad and I quit going to that "church." Later I looked up the pastor's home online and was floored at where he lived and found out he made over $100,000 per year.
