The above is a very telling statement. Who are we Christians to change the Word of God? We adjust the meaning of words to fit OUR the theologies scary indeed.
In my opinion the world will never be the old normal again.

2Thes 2:2; that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
2Thes 2:3; Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
2Thes 2:4; who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
This is a telling passage. The man of lawlessness wasn't Nero in 70AD. Because Jesus didn't re-appear after that. The "day of the Lord" hasn't happened yet.
Preterists and spiritualists, who say well, He came back in our hearts.... The Holy Spirit was in people well before 70AD, in fact on the day of Pentecost, so that doesn't fly either.
Finally there is no record of Nero being in the temple, or even anywhere close to Jerusalem during the sacking of Jerusalem.
The sacking of Jerusalem was done by a Roman commander named Titus (the Titus arch is still in Rome today).
To me, this passage isn't so much about the "man of lawlessness" so much as it is about the timing of "the day of the Lord".
The phrase is in the Bible 26 times, surprising the vast majority ( 20 vs 6 ) are in the Old testament.
Act 2:20 'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.
1Cor 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Thes 5:2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
2Thes 2:2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
2Pet 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
Obviously the Earth hasn't been "burned up" yet. The heavens haven't passed away yet.
