SignUp Now!It was thirty-five years ago Sue, A guy was invited to one of our meetings, he thought it was a country music evening because he knew me as a local musician, and he was surprised to find it was a meeting of Christians. In our conversation, he claimed to be a spiritualist. I asked him how he knew that the Spirits he contacted were who they claimed to be and I gave him a book I had on deliverance. After a while he went home. An hour or so later he returned claiming headaches, but only when he attempted to read the book, he said they went away when he put the book down. It occurred to me that, maybe, something didn't want him to read the book and I explained that to him. At that time, although I had read books and heard teachings on deliverance, I had never encountered an evil spirit, however I asked him if he wanted me to pray against wharever it was that was afflicting him. With his agreement, I commanded any spirit to name itself, (that's what the book advised), he collapsed on the floor unconscious. Ir occurred to me, that even though David was unconscious, the spirit was not, so I commanded it, in the name of Jesus to leave. I did this several times and nothing happened, and then I was filled with the Spirit, my voice was empowered and, I believe, the Spirit commanded it to leave. David wretched and opened his eyes. I asked him how he felt and he said different. After he had gone home, the Lord brought to mind a scripture: If you cast out a spirit, if it can't find a place to rest it will return, and bring seven more with it. I went to David's House, explained this and he received Jesus into his heart to be there in case the spirit returned. David moved away soon after, but I did hear that he continued in his faith.Trevor -- I would say that whatever group you're part of -- do Not be messing around with evil spirits. That's Not our job to deal with them. Don't know what you mean by evil spirits were in the group. They don't mix.
As the missionary friend of ours commented -- he led them to the Lord.
How did you 'deal' with them?
I don't know how to summarize my point in one sentence. Maybe it would be "lead that person to the Lord".
I'd say so.@Trevor and @Sue D. please provide me some clarification.
@Trevor I understand your position as, "As Christians Jesus has given us power to carry out God's work and believers should not shy away from whatever stands in the way, including evil spirits."
and @Sue D. I understand your position as "As Christians we should focus on Jesus and stay away from evil spirits because it can lead to a slippery slope of various traps counter-productive to our primary focus on Jesus."
It might not be perfect but Is this a general summary of your positions?
We follow the leading of the Spirit Sue and include him when the world intervenes.Yes, I'd agree. Trevor has shared his experience. The guy was invited To the Christian group. The end result was the man coming to Christ. The methodology -- well --I have been comparing your experience with what took place in Mark 5.
There are "once-in-a -life time" experiences -- and we need to be careful to not expect that to happen again. God Does work in mysterious ways. They need to be His ways, not Our ways.
At Bible study last evening, Pastor does Bible study going through entire books -- section by section -- verse by verse -- some good discussion takes place -- we are presently going through book of Mark and were in chapter 5 -- the demoniac
Your right Enxu, There are many people exploiting, not only the church, but the trusting hearts of vulnerable souls as well, but scripture says it will happen, so it's meant to be. We are called to bring it to light, as you did.I am talking about ministries that are actively trying to make big profits and advertise their ministries around, not spiritual occurrences in church gatherings.
Jesus said to His disciples: “Freely you have received, freely give”. Spiritual and deliverance gifts are freely given by God to His people, so why would any true deliverance minister charge money for serving people with those free gifts from God? And why would any wise Christian trust in so called deliverance ministers who don’t even obey Jesus by giving freely?
Luke 10:17 The seventy two returned with joy and said, " Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." Kitty, you quote from Ephesians 6:12 and quote who we are at war with, and then you move right out of context and quote from Matthew 7:22 claiming that casting out demons is a lawless act. There are charlatans in the church who perform false miracles, but that doesn't mean that, in a fellowship of true believers, those miracles cannot be performed. If casting out demons is not biblical, then why is it included in the bible? How to get free from dark spirits – The answer is Jesus.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7(KJV))
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV))
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew (7:22-23(NKJV))
I am personally not a cessationist. I think that view is not biblical, but I’ve seen many focus on these ‘demonic and miracle’ shows, and they give the devil a chance to brag too much. Also, God knows, if any of it is real at all, because simply we do not know, and the number of false teachers who claim they can do all sort of things are beyond what we can count these days. There are some who only see demons in everything and everyone. It becomes more of a cult-like to me than a Christian ministry.

Sorry Kitty, I misunderstood your post, I am pleased we're on the same team. Bless you.Pardon me. You must have misunderstood. On the contrary, I said there is a view that spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, the power of casting out demons, and healing ceased with the Apostolic Age. This is called Cessationism and many Christian scholars actually support this view. It is very debatable. I disagree with this particular view. So, we are on the same team? Are not we?
That being said, I mentioned Matthew 7:22-23 because we are not to glorify “men” instead of Jesus and because not every Christian can cast out demons, or speak in tongues. These gifts are are not evidence for having the Holy Spirit or being saved. I never said miracles cannot be performed, or that casting out demons is not biblical at all. I only warned that some Christians make it almost “the center” of their beliefs, which is not wise. You could cast out a demon today but maybe this person could be dealing with 10 more demons the next day or year. Are you going to make it a job? The bible is clear on that. The name of my God is not magical to be thrown at demons and dark spirits. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7(KJV)) It is so very simple and obvious. We are not told to go to any of these so-called deliverance ministries. I’m very skeptic of these shows.
God bless you,
In love,,,

No problem at all. So Am I!
God bless!
