And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching [is] empty and your faith [is] also empty. ... And if Christ is not risen, your faith [is] futile; you are still in your sins! 1 Corinthians 15:14, 17 NKJV
Jesus’ death on the cross is a central event for the Christian faith, for it was at that moment that God took it on Himself to provide the once-and-for-all sacrifice to pay the price for our sin. But in 1 Corinthians 15:14-17, the apostle Paul plainly staters that if Jesus’ death hadn’t been followed three days later by His resurrection, then the Christian faith would be worthless.
Paul wrote much of the importance of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, telling his readers that the resurrection was incontrovertible evidence that Jesus is the Son of God who has conquered sin and death forever. He also wrote that Jesus’ resurrection is central to our renewed relationship with God: “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:25).
So when you pray and thank God that Jesus died for your sins, don’t forget to also thank Him from your heart for raising Jesus from the dead. Because He lives, you will live with Him forever!
Prayer: Jesus, my heart is filled with joy overflowing when I think about the wonderful truth that You died for me…and that You raised from the dead so that I can live forever.
