How do we compare Grace (which is light) to Sin (which is darkness), and how do we understand their position in Christ?

Firstly, God created the world and said, “let there be light” (Genesis 1:1-4).

As scripture teaches, God divided the light from the darkness (Genesis 1:4). Darkness and light can never be united; the light always outshines the darkness and Grace always reigns over sin in God’s eyes. This is why He is not imputing sin unto believers. In God’s eyes a believer does not sin for this reason. Though they do unfruitful works they will give account of.

From the beginning we see that light and darkness cannot occupy the same space. This is true in the atmosphere as well as in men. The most important understanding is to believe what God’s word says (Romans 3:4).

Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence (sin) might abound (be abundantly revealed). But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Is there any possible way that sin can abound in the heart of man (in Christ) if grace occupies a man’s heart and abounds more (Romans 5:20)? Does God see His Grace, or does He see sin in a believer?

1Jo 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Are believer in God?

Under the Old Covenant David told The Lord, he has hid His word in his heart; if God’s word was in David’s heart, how could David sin or be in darkness?

Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Answer: Because the light (Grace) of the world had not come and abounded over sin (John 1:17).

Joh 8:12 Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Joh 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believes on me should not abide in darkness.

David understood, if God’s law is in a man’s heart, none of his steps would slide (Psalms 37:31). David also knew as long as Christ was not in a person’s heart, they were still in darkness; sinners. God through the law, told believers under the law they sinned, and accounted their sins against them (Deuteronomy 27:14-26).

Pro 20:9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

No one under the first covenant could; but David proposed this request to The Lord..

Psa 51:9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

This prayer of David was heard of The Lord, and fulfilled in all new covenant believers. Grace abounds in the hearts of all believers by giving man a clean heart and blotting out his iniquities (Acts 3:19; Revelations 1:5; 1Peter 2:24).

How is it that darkess can reign in the heart of a new covenant believer?

Not bad as far as what grace is...but grace is much much more that simply light...Its the very empowering PRESENCE of God...God is light, so you are right...But the PRESENCE of God is more than simple light.
If we have Gods PRESENCE in us, then we will never habitually sin...Will we ever sin by oops? Yup. But we ask Him to forgive our oops and go on.

Bendito,
That is true, grace is so much more than simply light. In this post I was not dealing with every aspect of grace. The comparison is with grace and sin and how God views them. If we can understand God's view of them, then we can understand how grace and sin pertains to us.

Let me ask you this Bendito, are you separated from sin? Are you a good tree or corrupt?

Grace can be considered a period. I.E. Grace Period ; While Sin is an action; Missing a particular action or not keeping an action. Sin necessitates Grace when it comes to mercy, compassion, or even love.

Perhaps Grace is the Spirit of the law while Sin is the Letter of the Law.

Sin cannot Comprehend Grace; However Grace shines thru Sin

Likewise the letter of the law cannot Comprehend the Spirit of the law; However the Spirit of the law shines thru. Such as healing the sick on the Sabbath.

Well I've agreed that you were right on grace being light....Good tree or corrupt? That's between me and God. I try to lead a life of trusting God.

Bendito,
I one again agree that it's between you and God, but does God's word quality as being God?
I ask this becaue He has told us what we can or cannot bringforth.

Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Yes God's Word is God. In the beginning was the Word...The Word was with God...and the Word was God.
He told us that if we walk in the Word, we will not habitually sin. So again you are correct.

Grace is getting reward a gift from God (eternal life) instead of punishment that we deserve. Mercy is God not punishing us for our sins, Grace is God giving us a present.

However Grace is not a free pass to sin, so many distort the beautiful news of Grace and leave people thinking its a free pass to sin.
Romans 6:15

And let us not discuss Grace with out discussing the wrath of God for many claim to believe with there lips yet there hearts tell the true story
John 3:36

Grace changes a person heart they now want to please there heavily father instead of the earthly flesh. I have seen this with my own eyes

Christ's Coming

2 Thessalonians 1

5All this is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels 8in blazing fire.

He will inflict vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might, 10on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.

I here a lot of people say they believe but they do not obey, seems this scripture is saying that if you really truly believe you will obey, seems if you do not obey you are going to feel and know Gods wrath.

obeying and not obeying seem to have eternal consequences. yet we hardly ever here about that, we always here about the mercy and grace part with out much talk about the punishment part.

What you are saying is that Grace is mercy. All you do here is to define mercy in different words. This way mercy is grace and grace is mercy. Circular reasoning. The bible talks of Grace and mercy, two separate things. I understand that most churches teach it this way...that makes most churches wrong in teaching this.

Ivar,

Sin is considered an action and Grace is considered an action.

Grace puts a period on sin because Jesus condemned sin (Romans 8:3)

I honestly do not understand how the definition of “from” sin, equals “still being a part” of sin?

There was a type of grace given under the Law or Moses through the sacrifices; that was God’s mercy; but they had to offer the sacrifices to obtain the grace. We are not required to do any work to obtain the Grace that frees us "from sin."

The reason Jesus came is because, yes, sin necessitated Grace; but unlike the Law of Moses, Jesus removed sin.

The reason sin cannot comprehend Grace, is because sin cannot abound where Grace reigns.

My brother you should read it again and pray on it, let me explain it more clear for you mercy is when you do something wrong and I send you to your room for being bad, grace is me coming into the room and taking you out for ice cream rewarding you when you deserve punishment hope that helps you understand the difference better dear brother

Dave M.
Grace comes through Mercy,
Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

God had mercy on man, this is one of the reasons why He did not destroy all man. It was thruogh God's Mercy that He gave Grace in Christ.

I'm sorry my friend....The first is punishment or at least chastisement. It's a consequence deserved... The second one, taking me out for ice cream is mercy. Jesus gave us eternal life when we deserved hell....Because of Mercy were saved by Grace...the empowering PRESENCE of God in us. We died, then we were born again with God...the Holy Spirit...as a part of us.

Dave,
I don't look at it as a challenge, past tense yes... What I truly enjoy is Iron shappens Iron. If I don't know, I'm getting knowledge to reseach from this, If I do know, I'm giving knowledge.
I do appreciate it, and 0 emotions here. In the past I would feel the burn, but we are what we believe and exercise.
