DO WE HAVE TO CONFESS OUR SINS?

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

This passage says that we have been forgiven.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

It is taught that 1 John 1:9 means we have to confess our sins to receive forgiveness.

We can not, at the same time, have forgiveness, but have to confess it in order to receive it.

1 John 1:9 is written only for national Israel, who as a nation, was to confess their iniquities:

1[Leviticus 26:40 KJV] "If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;"
[Nehemiah 1:6 KJV] "Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned."
[Nehemiah 9:2 KJV] "And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers."
[Ezra 10:11 KJV] "Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives."

In answering the question, do we have to confess our sins, the answer is yes

If others use what they hear for malicious purposes. Then they sin in other ways.

Your confession of your sin is between you and God. Nothing says that you can't go out in the woods and confess your sins to God, in a private way. Where others can't hear you

1 John confession of sins is also found with Israel's baptism ******** [Mark 1:5 KJV] "And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins."

1 John has the same elements as found in John such as keeping his commandments and receiving whatever is asked and believing on the name of Jesus

1 John is written to Israel

I was going to add to my previous post that only a dispensationalist could see it this way, but excluded it then, but am adding it now. That is why I added the additional verses of 1 John to show you within context that the view such as you are communicating is unacceptable for all believers.

If v7 (which I noticed you failed to consider in your reply) only applies to Israel is your position because it is found in 1 John, you still must wrestle with Paul agreeing with this in many of his epistles as well. For if the Blood of Christ cleanses "all" then you cannot say that there is a separate dispensation for believers. For the forgiveness of sins is only through the Blood of Christ, be they Jew or Gentile.

Oh, and don't circle back to start speaking about different churches, because I do believe that has already been addressed between us.
