Hello judge not.
You did state that a person must obey the ten commandments.
Consider the following argument.
If a person obeys the ten commandments, the legal
code, the "law of righteousness" and believes in Jesus
Christ. Which appears to be the theology of some on TJ.
But this person is impure in thought, sensual, creates strife,
is constantly jealous of others and their success. Has an explosive
temperament, is drunk on occasion, plays up to pretty women, etc.
Is that person saved?
Human nature, the carnal mind is enmity against God. Remember that repentance and the forgiveness of sins is but the first step towards salvation. Overcoming the earthy pulls of this world is a lifelong process.
" For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law are justified....." Romans 2 covers a lot of God's principles on this issue.
Why would Jesus urge us to overcome if there is nothing further we must do once we have accepted Him as Savior?
The Bible says we must live a life of struggling against sin-being a Christian is not a free ride to salvation.
Didn't Jesus say that only a few will find the straight gate and narrow way that leads to eternal life.
It's a tough battle-our first major evil force is satan-who deceives the whole world.
Our second major force is our world-society and its bad influences and dangers.
Our third force we battle is our human nature as mentioned before.
You have to have true repentance-Paul said that the inner state of repentance, if nurtured, would inevitably express itself through outward works or repentance that bears fruit and a change in behavior.
Repentance is a life of obedience that involves continual changes-spiritual growth. But we all sin, willfully even, thankfully God will accept our repentance and forgive us as we turn back to Him and ask for His help to overcome our sinning ways.
God is always there for us, always.
If anyone reading this is a backsliding Christian that has drifted from the faith or returned to old habits and reading this in a forum like Talk Jesus trying to restore your beliefs remember the message God has for you:
" If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " 1John 1:9
