What are your thoughts on the book of Enoch?

I've heard many mention it but any not sure much about it. I'm trying to research and find more so I figure I would ask

our community to get a sample of your perspectives.

Is there anything in the book of Enoch that contradicts the cannon we just now?

Is there any new revelation in the book of Enoch not present in the 66 books?

Gives further understanding of

Gen 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
Gen 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Is been a while but to my knowledge it did not contradict the law of Moses or the Faith of Christ. Chapter 72 concerning the Luminaries is a good read. Interesting takeaways is the 364 day calendar and the last day of the year being equal parts night and equal parts day. Then the following evening starts a new year and the spring season. Some things seem questionable but with a solid foundation in the the law of Moses and the Faith of Christ then one should be fine

It does not contradict scripture, nor does it offer up new directions for believers to walk in. It is for the most part informative, some history, and a lot of spiritual messages that share future happenings in a spiritual manner. Likewise it speaks a lot of Jesus, although not by the name Jesus. Jesus as you know, has many titles, and you will find His titles there a lot.

Are you asking if the Book of Enoch contradicts canon or the Word? The book of Enoch does not contradict the bible at all. Some canon contradicts the Book of Enoch though. For that matter...some canon contradicts the bible too.

The Book of Enoch was actually a part of the Bible until the 800 years into Christian history...The Romanist Church removed it because it contradicted their ways of thinking.

Book of Enoch appears to give us a LOT more information about the angelic incursion, nephilim, etc.

This may be more than a curiosity of history, given that a restoration of nephilim (or some equivalent) may be in our future (Mt. 24:37).

Gosh as I play catch up on the many threads I have yet to have time to review, I continue to come across the Apocrypha.

I've addressed this before on the statement that it was used 400-800 years used in the early church. As if all the early churches used the same Bible. This is not true. Many of the churches used different manuscripts/copies or just what was available to them.

Now to reiterate. Talk Jesus does not hold that any of the books found in the Apocrypha which includes the Book of Enoch is to be taken over what is found in the 66 Books of the KJV, NKJV, etc. as it pertains to doctrine. I would only find it a curiosity for Historical purposes only.

That's all right Nick. The book is still there. :-) Like you said...some Christian churches use different Books than others.

What?! You don't know what YBIC is?! Neither do I. Hey! What's YBIC?

Oh Thank goodness for Google. It means " Youth Beef Industry Congress"
but it could mean "Yoga and Body Image Coalition" or "Yokohama Biotechnology Industry Center"
But really, I found it on Google "Your brother in Christ" Now we both know. LOL

:-) I was suspecting the "Yoga and Body Image Coalition"....but wasn't sure!

In reference to the Book of Enoch though....We read, and use other books as authorities in our studies, but the book of Enoch, we run from it. Why is that? We read men like Watchman Nee, Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, A. W. Tozer…Good men, good books, but let me ask you….Did any of these men walk with God? Were any of these men caught up into heaven to live with Theone? Enoch walked with God. They were close friends! Would God be close friends with a liar?"

Hello Brother,
The reason many run from the Book of Enoch and yet accept the writings of the authors you have mentioned. Probably has to do with their acceptance of the 66 accepted books in their writings/beliefs. Not that I'm a 100% sure of that last comment not having read all their writings, but it seems reasonable to me that this is the case.

As far as acceptance or rejection of the Book of Enoch as being inspired. Well, it really starts on why it was rejected and not seen as being on the same level as the other 66 canonical books. that were accepted. Some believe it to be inspired, while others do not. The statement of Antony Michaud, assumes that Enoch was the actually writer of said book, which is also disputable. So, the last comment of the quoted writer of "Would God be close friends with a liar?" would be correct for only those who believe the work inspired and still won't use it. It holds no water for those who don't believe it to be inspired in the first place.

Only with the Love of Christ Jesus Brother.

I get into this with all different sects of the Protestant denomination and Catholics and most Orthodox whose Canon consist of only 73 books.. To them I say, regardless of what your Canon is , God slipped Enoch under your radar.
God's Judgment on the Ungodly Jude 1:13-15
…13They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. 14Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about them: “Behold, the Lord is coming with myriads of His holy ones 15to execute judgment on everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of every ungodly act of wickedness and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.”…

Jude quotes DIRECTLY FROM ENOCH'S writings. There is NO mention of this verse in what the the groups I address call Canon. Enoch is mentioned yes in their old testament Canon , but, not quoted. Jude proves Enoch was an essential book of study not only for the OT ancient Hebrews but for the Christian community of the first assembly in Christ. This could be why God has put it upon the hearts of men to read it. I have found that of the many denominations outside the Ethiopian assembly , certain protestant in origin people, are the ones venturing outside of their doctrinal fathers and reading Enoch's works. I would say most definitely , the Holy Spirit is moving them to do so.

So what was not approved by the so called "doctrinal fathers" of denominations was APPROVED by the Apostle Jude , the true, one and only doctrinal father whose name is in the foundation of the heavenly city.
