Greetings my fellow Christian brothers and sisters,

I love to speak the truth and I have very serious questions that I think many believers would like to know the answer to. Can you tell me please why does God's word promise so much and yet fulfils so very little to nothing in the lives of many devout Christians, in terms of, for example: long life, health, peace, joy and happiness, etc? Instead, I've seen many atheists who live very healthy, prosperous and happy lives and they obviously don't believe in keeping God's commandments. Doesn't the Bible lose credibility in this way? Isn't this part of the reason why many people don't take God, His commandments or the Bible seriously?

In other words, why do not all devout Christians live long lives and have optimum health as countless scriptures promise, such as: Psalms 84; 90, 91; 103; Pr 10:27, etc.

Here is an example: Psalm 91: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

The promise of blessings, including: protection, happiness, healing, long-life and prosperity is not just in the Old Testament (Ex 20:12; Dt 5:16; Ps 34:12-16), but reaffirmed in the New Testament (Eph 6:2-3; 1 Pe 3:9-10).

My mother and I both repented, lived holy lives, with clean hands and pure hearts. God was first love and first priority. We prayed for at least 3 hours each and every day, and studied the Bible for at least 1 hour every day. Prayer was the very first thing in the morning. Our faith was very strong. We strove to obey God's commandments, including keeping the Sabbath day holy. We attended Sabbath services. We served God. Preached the true gospel. We both practiced abstinence, self-sacrifice and self-discipline, so we didn't spend money on holidays, restaurants or other pleasures. We were truly faithful disciples of Christ, by striving to live according to His word. Out of the little that we had, we donated money to charities and helped homeless people. We were never ever involved in occultism. My mother was totally faithful to my father in marriage, although he was very abusive towards her. Although, she forgave him many times, the abuse didn't stop. On the contrary, the more she forgave, the worse the abuse became. It reached a point where she had no choice but to divorce him. From then on, my mother never remarried. She lived the life of a widow for twenty years. We lived a very modest and quiet life. We practiced celibacy and sexual abstinence. Our lives resembled those of nuns. My mother was very protective of me and she taught me to pray since I was two years of age. While parents usually read fairy tale stories to their children, I slept with the Bible under my pillow, which I took with me to the private school that my mother enrolled me in, and I learned about God. We put so much faith and trust in God and I feel like He has really let us down.

The verses in Psalm 103:1-5 state: "Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed."

My mother suffered from colorectal cancer which spread to her liver and kidneys, heart failure, pulmonary edema and anaemia, including numerous other medical issues. I was completely shocked, devastated and heartbroken when my mother passed away at an early age, and I read her long medical report, which went on and on. She was in terrible pain and had near fatal falls on a few occasions. Despite praying to God continuously, from early morning until late at night, with fasting and begging for my mother to be healed, my prayers returned unanswered. The more I prayed and fasted, the worse her health became. It deteriorated so much that she was bed-ridden for one year and couldn't see the light of day. None of these illnesses run on my mother's side of the family. We both took care of our health by drinking fruit and vegetable juices, exercising and more importantly, absolutely NO smoking, drugs or alcohol. While other people were celebrating Mother's Day with gifts like cakes, chocolates and flowers, as well as dining with their mothers at restaurants or taking them on luxury cruises, my mother was in the morgue awaiting cremation.

God's people are plagued by an entire series of extremely serious illnesses—including a number of leading people directly involved in the work. During the 1980's there was a huge number of ministers wives that were stricken. It has always been a fact that wives of so many ministers and church leaders have been stricken by cancer.

In 2016, Cornerstone Contact Centre pastor Don Cameron died at the age of 45 years, after a battle with cancer.

Jeffery Largent, pastor of Culver flock passed away in 2016, at the age of 59 years, after his second battle with cancer.

Church of the Highlands Greystone Campus Pastor Keith Lindsey passed away in 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Kara Tippetts, wife of PCA church pastor Jason Tippetts of Westside Church, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a devout Christian mother of four, who had stage-four breast cancer and passed away at the age of 38, in 2015, after a long battle.

In 2014, Steve Hill, the evangelist of the Brownsville Revival, passed away at his Alabama home Sunday after fighting a long battle with cancer. He was 60 years old.

LaKisha died in 2014, at the age of 40 after an 18-month battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of Pastor Breonus Mitchell of Greater Grace Temple Community Church.

A Wesleyan pastor, Daniel “Danny” Eiler, age 30, passed away in 2014, after battling leukemia. He served as senior pastor of The Springs Community Church in Ringgold, Georgia.

David Landrith, senior pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, died at age 51. Landrith was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer known as colorectal melanoma in 2013.

In 2009, founder and pastor of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Billy Joe Daugherty's battle with cancer took a turn for the worse as he fought an infection at Houston's M.D. Anderson Hospital. He passed away at the age of 57 years.

The list goes on and on ...

Living Church of God - Joplin, Missouri pastor Karl Beyersdorfer killed himself on 5/27/2016.

Others who committed suicide in the Worldwide Church of God are mentioned in the below article:

http://hwarmstrong.com/suicide-statistics.htm

The following verses refer to believers in Christ Jesus:

Mark 16:17-18 - And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

The following link displays an article on miracle workers who couldn't heal themselves:

http://www.bible.ca/tongues-miracles-fake-pentecostal.htm

The list goes on and on.

The verse in Exodus 20:12 states: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. It is reaffirmed in the New Testament in: Ephesians 6:2-3 - “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

During my lifetime, I've seen mothers who honoured their parents and yet lived short lives, like my mother who honored both her parents and grandparents. On the other hand, mothers who dishonoured their parents and yet lived to ripe old ages of over 80 years of age. There are even criminals, such as serial killers, rapists and paedophiles who live long lives on the earth. While at the same time, a shocking number of innocent people are sentenced to death. One of the ways in which we honor our parents is by having a clean criminal record.

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, "tells you that a surprising number of innocent people are sentenced to death," Samuel R. Gross, the lead author, said in an interview with Newsweek. "It tells you that a lot of them haven't been exonerated. Some of them no doubt have been executed." The headline on newsweek.com is "One in 25 sentenced to death in the U.S. is innocent, study claims."

Do all these convicted criminals deserve to live and my mother who was a godly, holy, righteous mother deserve to die, along with all these other devout Christians?

Charles Manson, the convicted American serial killer is still alive today at the age of 82 years. Charles Albright, known as the eyeball killer, is 83 years. The nurse Jane Toppan, a serial killer, lived to be 81 years of age. Edward Theodore Gein was an American murderer and body snatcher. He died at the age of 78 years. Ian Brady, the child killer is 78 years. Robert Hansen, the serial killer died at the age of 75 years. Dennis Rader is 71 years of age. Phillip Jablonski, another serial killer is 70 years of age, and the list goes on and on. Incarcerated criminals enjoy the fresh air and sunshine with fitness and recreational activities, including sports, gym, pool tables and so forth. These prisons are more like holiday resorts.

Charles Manson, the ringleader of the killer cult still remains unrepentant even at the ripe old age of 82 years, just like many other criminals. I'm puzzled as to why God allowed all these criminals to live long lives. Was He waiting for them to turn to Him and repent? But God has foreknowledge. We find instead, that they committed more and more crimes, while growing old without any sign of remorse?

Psalm 91:16 states: "With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” This verse is supposed to be referring to devout believers. Instead, we see that the criminals are the ones who are living long lives. Why would God want to satisfy scum of the earth with long lives?

If God made us for a reason and that is to begin a relationship with, serve and obey Him, then why doesn't He grant long lives to those devout Christians who do good deeds. It is God who decides when we are born and how long we live according to:

Psalm 139:16: "Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

God is the one who planned the days of our lives in advance, choosing the exact time of our birth and death. This goes for criminals too, as well as many famous atheists who have lived to ripe old ages including: Diana Athill (99), Katharine Hepburn (96), Baba Amte (94), Uri Avnery (93), Julius Axelrod (92), Marlene Dietrich (91), Kai Nielsen (90), Henry Burstow (90), Jorge Amado (89), Eric Ambler (89), Tom Lehrer (88), James Randi (88), Paul Kurtz (87), Edward O. Wilson (87), Larry Adler (87), Mary Adams (86), Jemima Blackburn (86), Michael Martin (84), Philip Roth (83), Steven Weinberg (83), Victor Stenger (81), Robert Altman (81), Woody Allen (81), and many others.

The verse in Isaiah 30:18 states that the Lord is a God of justice. "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!" Where is the justice? I'm absolutely appalled and disgusted by the injustice not only in the Christian community, but in the world today.

Many devout believers have been martyred who were very faithful to God, like Stephen and all of the twelve apostles who died as martyrs during the first century, with the exception of John, the writer of the Gospel with his name and the Book of Revelation who died a natural death, at 94 years of age, close to the year 100 A.D.

A report issued by a Christian organization fighting religious persecution states that a Christian is killed for his or her faith every five minutes across the world. It has escalated dramatically over the centuries, with more Christian martyrs in the 20th and 21st centuries than in the preceding 19 centuries — going back to Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry. The situation is only getting worse.

Over 75% of Christians persecuted in North Korea who are subjected to torture, imprisonment and all sorts of punishment do not survive to tell their stories.

Currently, more than 200 million Christians around the world are threatened because of their faith. Is God pleased with martyrdom? Does it give Him satisfaction to see many Christians martyred for their faith. Does God consider it a sacrifice that brings glory and honour to Him, thereby pleasing and acceptable?

Thank you.

God bless you,
Rachel Henderson

If God is true, and his Word then his promises are also true. If we are not experiencing what his promises have provided us then who would be at fault. Certainly it would not be the Lord, as all the promises of God are yes, and in him Amen to the Glory of God by us. (2 Cor 1:20)
It is not enough to know what the promises give us, we have to actually believe them, and believing them is not just agreeing the Bible is true.

If someone put 1 million dollars in a bank account just for you, and you don't know its there it does you no good to have it. Even if you know it's there it does you no good to have it if you do not have access to it. Accessing the promises of God can only be done by faith. Everything the Lord God has given to his children is by his "grace" alone, even salvation was given to us by his grace. We are saved by grace through faith.....

All the promises of God are given to us by grace, therefore we must learn how to access these promises that were given to us by grace. We access these promises in exactly the same way we accessed our salvation which is through faith. No body is saved by faith!!! there is no such a thing as we are saved by "grace" alone, and the only way to gain access to this grace (by which we are saved) is through faith.

Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

All grace can only be accessed by faith. As it is written...

2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Everything we could ever possibly need in this life was already given to us in the past. The Lord is not going to provide us these things in the future, because he has already provided them to us by his grace in the past. This is exactly how faith works, as it never believers in the future,
it believes in what it already has!!! As Jesus said.....

Mar 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

If our faith is believing someday it will be ours, we will never see it!!! We must believe we have already received it before it will manifest in the physical realm. Believing in our heart, and confessing with our mouth will always be the method how we receive anything from the Lord.

What did Jesus possess of what men might call the "good" things of his life in the flesh? He died horribly without marriage or children.

What did Stephen the first martyr described in the NT possess as a young man of those "good" things of his life in the flesh?

"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." I Cor 15:19

"For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." Rom 8:5

Sister, I quickly skimmed through your post as my time is a bit limited right now but let's start off with a few verses here. Keep in mind the context of the verses and ultimately the purpose they were even included in the bible.

Not to stray from your main question of why, as it seems to you that GOD does not fulfill His promises. We need to start off with this truth: we deserve absolutely nothing good from GOD but eternal wrath. We do not deserve good things, even His promises (but He does fulfill them nonetheless). We're sinners saved solely by His undeserved grace. We live in a fallen world. God owes us nothing. It is not about our "good works", but strictly His grace and His will.

Romans 9:20-24
20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory— 24 even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?

1 Peter 3:13-15
13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

John 16:33
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Hello Sister Rachel and welcome to "Talk Jesus". I am very glad that you were able to express what's in your broken heart about not seeing the promises of God in your life and of others. For the past 40+ years, I have been a Baptist Pastor and a Christian Psychologist. One of the calling of God on my life is to help folk just like you.

I must tell you that I read every word of your post and, thru the Holy Spirit, could feel the anguish of your soul. I am so very sorry for the circumstances that have crushed your spirit by all that looks like Jesus has abandoned the promises that He and His Father promised.

I will try and shed some light on your thinking and perhaps bring some peace into your heart and spirit should God be with my mind thru the Scriptures.

First of all, lets look at the heart of our Heavenly Father....Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." In 1993, my dear Wife Jennie, after a three year battle with breast cancer, lost the battle and went home to be with Jesus of Whom was the light of her life. She was my Pastor's Wife in three Baptist Churches. Jennie had a wonderful ministry with the women of those churches. She was my ministry Buddy. We were married 33+ years.

What I'd like you to realize is that this sin soaked world is not our home. There is a place called "The New Jerusalem". That is where God the Father has always been, and He operates out of there. When Jesus died, He was resurrected from this wicked world, and went back to where He was to begin with, at the right hand of God His Father.

Lets look at a prayer that Jesus has for those who believe in Him, like you and your blessed Mom....John 17:24 "Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. (KJV)

24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. (ESV)

One of the reasons why people are not healed when they are close to death is that Jesus Christ has already prayed that that Saint would die and go home to Jesus to be in the presence of Jesus' Glory. When we stop and think about it, why would we want our loved one to stay in this rotten world when they can go to Heavens New Jerusalem to be with their Savior and be free from all the sin that surrounds us?

In some cases, because God can see into the future, He sees an event that would be extremely bad for someone we love and He ends their live before that bad event happens. We need to realize that our loved ones are much better off in Heaven, enjoying past friends and family members where there is no more pain and cancer as well as having pure joy and freedom from Satan, demons and bad people.

I think I've said enough for you to get the point that Heaven's New Jerusalem is just the greatest place that a Christian could be. I hope Rachel, this helps a little. I'd be happy to answer any question that you might have, God bless you with His Truth.

Just to add to what brother @Chopper has said. Very very few people if any ever consider this an option. Death is a way in which God can, and does use to deliver a righteous person from the evil to come. We usually don't like to think this way because as a Christian "death" is a subject we don't like to talk about. Physical death is just the end of one phase of life that ushers us into the next, and final phase that will never end.

Isa 57:1 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

There are many scriptures about HEALING:

Exodus 15:26 - “…I am the Lord who heals you.”

The scripture in John 10:10: states: "... I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Doesn't this scripture mean that God desires for us faithful Christians to be in optimum health? Only when someone is healthy can he or she have life to the full. Not when our bodies are incapacitated or debilitated by pain, sickness or disease.

Psalms 103:2-3 - Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.

The verse in Proverbs 4:22 refers to God's word and states: "for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body."

Many other scriptures state that God wants us HEALED and WHOLE:

For example: Isaiah 53:5 - But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Jeremiah 30:17 - “I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the Lord.

1 Peter 2:24 - "He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Romans 8:11 - And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

There are many examples of MIRACLES and HEALINGS as recorded in the bible. Here are just a few scriptural examples: Leper in Galilee (Mt 8:1-4); Paralytic (palsy) at Capernaum (Mt 9:2-8); Man with a withered hand in Galilee possibly Capernaum (Mt 12:10-13); Women with issue of blood (hemorrhaging) healed at Capernaum during first preaching tour through Galilee (Mt 9:20-22); Two blind men at Capernaum (on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee) (Mt 9:27-31); Two Blind Men Departing Jericho (Mt 20:29-34), Jesus raises a dead girl and heals a sick woman (Mk 5:21-43); and many others as we read in: Mt 4:23-24; Mt 8:5–7, 16-17; Mt 9:6-7; Mt 15:30; Mt 20:34; Mk 3:1-5; Mk 5:25-29; Mk 10:49-52; Lk 4:40; Lk 6:19; Lk 7:12-15; Lk 13:11-13; Jn 5:5-9; Ac 10:38, etc.

Psalm 107:19–20 - “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. He sent out His word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.

Psalm 91:3 - For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.

Psalm 105:37 - He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes.

3 John 1:2 - Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

Here is another example: Psalm 91: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

The promise of blessings, including: PEACE, PROTECTION, HAPPINESS, HEALING, LONG-LIFE and PROSPERITY is not just in the Old Testament (Ex 20:12; Dt 5:16; Ps 34:12-16; Pr 22:9), but reaffirmed in the New Testament (2 Cor 9:10; Eph 6:2-3; 1 Pe 3:9-10).

Innumerable scriptures promise PEACE, JOY, STRENGTH, PROTECTION, PROVISION and PROSPERITY. Here are just a few:

Ro 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Ps 1:1-3 - Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

Ps 4:8 - In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Ps 12:5 - “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”

Ps 16:11 - You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Ps 29:11 - The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Ps 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Ps 119:165 - Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.

Ps 138:7 - Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.

Pr 10:22 - The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.

Pr 22:9 - The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.

Is 32:17 - The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.

Is 41:10 - So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Jer 17:8 - They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Php 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Php 4:19 - And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Ro 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 Cor 9:8 - And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Cor 9:10 - Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.

2 Thess 3:3 - But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Rachel, the Scriptures do have a lot of promises written down for man's welfare. I must say that most of those were fulfilled in the Old Covenant which were designed for Israel. Then came Israel's Messiah after 400 years of silence. For 33+ years, Jesus fulfilled all of the healing promises. Luke the physician records them.

Once the Church of Jesus Christ was established at Pentecost, healing in the New Covenant is designed by God the Father to be under the authority of a local Church. Healing is no longer a promise, it's a gift of the Holy Spirit....

1 Corinthians 12:4 "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills."

What I'd like you to notice is that the Holy Spirit is the One of the Godhead that controls healing, "Who apportions to each one individually as He wills." Notice where healing is supposed to take place....

James 5:13 "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."

Lets talk about miracles. Just what is a miracle. Certainly if someone is diagnosed with terminal cancer, like my first Wife, She's going to die. What we have to realize is, under original sin of Adam's disobedience, the nature of all things went from "good" to cursed. Had Adam not sinned, mankind would not have become sick. Unfortunately, man does become sick and must die. That the nature of things.

In order for a sick person to be healed, God must step in and change the nature of what original sin introduced to mankind. IMO, that's a tall order. We always want to see a miracle of healing, the problem with that is it's against the nature of the curse that God pronounced on the earth and mankind. The nature of sin is death.

So, what about all those promises of healing in the Bible? Please note that if God healed one person, the promise has been fulfilled. If God protected one person, the promise is fulfilled, and so on. God is under no obligation to heal anyone because all the promises of God have been fulfilled either in the Old Covenant or the New Covenant.

Greetings,

My mother's faith was very strong right to the very end when she passed away, and I wish to point out the fact that I even called for the elders of the church to anoint my mother with olive oil, because she couldn't make it to church as she was too sick. The following scripture states in: James 5:14-15 - Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

The scripture obviously wasn't fulfilled in my mother's life who was a faithful Christian, and the lives of many other faithful Christians.

As stated previously, God's promises are not just found in the Old Testament, but reaffirmed in the New Testament, as we read in James 5:14-15 as well as many other scriptural references that I've already quoted previously.

At the beginning of the chapter in 1 Cor 12, we read that Paul is addressing brothers and sisters.
"Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed."

Verse 7-10 mentions: "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines."

If gifts of healing and miracles are operating in the lives of Christians in these churches, then there would be NO sicknesses, suicides, and crimes such as murder happening there.

One of the important ministries of the Holy Spirit to believers today, is His bestowal of spiritual gifts on Christians at the time of their conversion.

Ephesians 2:10 mentions: "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." The only way we can do good works is if our bodies are not incapacitated or debilitated by pain, sickness or disease.

God bless you,
Rachel

Psalm 37:1
1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Millions and millions of people over history have only ever suffered oppression, enslavement, disease, early deaths, ignorance, branding, captivity,
war, famine, drought, floods, pestilences, pain and suffering, rape and abuse, beatings and tortures - and this still happens today.

Rich people (materially in money and property wealth) in both first and third world countries tend to escape much of this. Those of higher caste, class or status
generally eat better, have more options, better health and medicine, more comfortable homes, don't have to worry about the cost of electricity, and so on.

But God (Jesus) is aware of all this. God is more than aware of all the evil and unfairness and misfortune that we as humanity suffer, principally through
the work of the Evil One, false religions, and our sinful state.

Whether a newborn baby lives a day or an old person lives 90 years it is irrelevant against eternity and living forever with the Lord.
Wicked and un-Godly people will also live forever, but not with the Lord; cast away forever into a lake of fire.
Trials and temptations are there to refine us, to separate the chaff from the wheat. To prove our faith. Our hope is in the promise of our reward.
What if Jesus healed everybody with each and every prayer? Every ailment or disease instantly always? Would people believe in the gospel because
they desired righteousness? Or would they flock to our churches because it is a cheaper alternative to private medical insurance?

16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8: 16-17

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, in as much as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
1Peter 4: 12-13

Hi Rachel. I pray that our loving and compassionate God give you peace concerning your frustration of not seeing healing of your wonderful Mother. You two lived a life that was pleasing to our Lord. I'm glad that I could read about your godly lifestyle. Surely, if healing depended on godly living, your Mom would have been healed.

The whole matter of God healing His children can not be figured out by our finite minds. Why God heals some but not others is a mystery that we'll never know this side of Glory.

In 1990, my wonderful Wife and partner in the ministry that God led us into was very supernatural. Unfortunately, Jennie (Wife) was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. They gave her two years to live, she lasted three years. The prayers for her healing were sent to God's Throne by folks who knew her and loved her all over this Nation. When Jennie died, I was devastated.

I'd like to have you look at Christ's prayer in John 17....
20 I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Now, Jesus has prayed that your Mother would leave this world of sin soaked wickedness, and come to Jesus in heaven to be with Him to see His Glory and be a part of life in the New Jerusalem. Now here's the problem. Your Mother took a fatal cancer. You prayed for her healing. Now we have two prayers for healing. Jesus, God's Son prayed for her healing because to go home to be with Jesus is the greatest healing. There is your prayer for healing.

Now, God must decide who's prayer for healing will He honor, His Son's or yours. Sometimes he says no to Jesus and yes to one of His children. Other times He says no to His child and yes to Jesus. I wish that when people pray for healing, God, most of the time takes them home to be with His Son because that's the ultimate healing.

I hope you can see that your Mom is having the time of her life there in the Heavenly New Jerusalem. I would like you to realize something that you might not have realized....

Hebrews 12:1 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

In Chapter 11, there is a record of many who lived by faith in the living God. There are some very good theologians that teach that all Saints who die having lived a life of faith in Jesus are now witnesses to our lives here on earth. If that's true, and I believe that it is true, your Mom knows how you're reacting to her death. I hope that your Mom will see her daughter Rachel go on without her on earth but in heaven looking down cheering you on to keep up your godly lifestyle that you had when she was with you.

God bless you Rachel, don't give up. Press on, some day you two will be together again.

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life:
and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-12, 15

To have lived but one life only - even for 70 to 99 years of age - is short change; the blink of an eye, a vapour or mist; like grass that withers in the hot sun.
Three and a half thousand years ago Jesus speaking directly to Moses declared:
"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life,
that both thou and thy seed may live:"
Deuteronomy 30:19

Perdition is also for an eternity. Charles Manson and his like will have an enduring ongoing never ending torment without hope nor respite.
Whatever pleasures they may have enjoyed on Earth will not sustain them nor mitigate their suffering and woe.

Life on Earth is not the reward we look to. We are pilgrims journeying through life, and understand that our purpose is know and love the God of Israel and through
Him then become children of our Father in Heaven.

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Hebrews 11:16
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

11 For the grace of God that brings salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Titus 2:11-14

These few verses summarize the whole pupose of the New Testament and the gospel.
It has always been about salvation of our souls (not our bodies).
Blessings, healings, provision, protection these are all bonuses given according to what God wants our lives to be whilst on earth.
There are great testimonies of faithfulness and perseverance from believers who have endured much, yet can still rejoice in the hope of
their salvation in their Lord Jesus. God rewards faith.

Remember that the first Christians suffered much in martyrdom and tortures, unto death. Fed to lions as sport for pagan Rome.
Protestants and Bible translators were burned at the stake and cruelly tortured by the Inquisition.
And yet because of their sufferings millions of more people have encompassed the gospel of salvation, and we now all can read Bibles in
in our own languages.
God will recompense all those responsible for evils and wrongdoings. God will reward the widows and the orphans, the meek, the innocent,
all to whom He shall have compassion and mercy upon.

9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also
and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
Revelation 6:9-11

9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne,
and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou know. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes,
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them.
16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters:
and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
Revelation 7

Please Rachel, pay close attention to what Waggles has presented to you. I'd like to give you my personal testimony....I entered Bible College in 1975 to train for pastoring Jesus' Churches. I had not had any long term illnesses. But, shortly after attending College, I began to have migraine headaches. Along with hypoglycemia. That lasted until 1995 when I had a stroke.

During my 40+ years of being a servant of Jesus Christ, I've had two hip replacements, two failed spine surgeries, open heart surgery, on and on it goes. Presently I have severe stomach pain and the doctors don't know why. Have I prayed for healing? O time doesn't afford me to tell of all my illnesses and so very much prayer and faith that Jesus would heal me. He has not, I still suffer.

Suffering is a part of being a Christian. Suffering has actually brought me closer to the Jesus Who suffered so much to bring me to Salvation thru His death on the Cross. If He suffered, so will you and me.
