The word translated as 'demon' in most English bibles refers to invisible (to us) evil beings that are in opposition to God. The word wrongly translated as 'angel' refers to messengers of the true God. They are invisible beings who are greater than humans and who are on the side of what is good and best for humanity.
Though normally invisible, God's messengers can take on human form. According to the entire Bible, there are both good forces and evil forces in conflict here on earth and perhaps throughout the larger universal reality; on earth we are caught up in this spiritual war, regardless of what we believe, whether we choose to be or not.
Modern intellectuals sometimes carelessly compare this to belief in witchcraft, ghosts and astrology, when in fact prejudice surrounding the words 'demon' (an Old English term) and 'angel' is largely due to bad translation. The Greek "angelon" means "messenger" and refers to good spirits who come from God, while "daimonia" refers to evil spirits who are in league with the devil. Consider for example, that today many educated people including even some atheists claim to be "spiritual". And then, they turn around and ridicule Jesus and the authors of the Bible for believing in unseen spiritual beings.
And consider that human science today, according to many scientists themselves (in agreement with Paul), knows very little about almost everything compared to what there is yet to learn. Science can only theorize what may exist outside of our three-dimensional plus time ability to detect. It represents utter foolishness that modern science chooses to name stars, planets and moons names found in astrology and mythology, while excluding any discussion of God or creation; as if the gross superstition of magically appearing universes posing as materialistic 'science', can somehow explain our existence.
Many scientists and other highly educated people believe in unseen dimensions and suspect there is far more than meets the three-dimensional eye. Today, many scientists believe there is much more to the human mind, conscious awareness, soul and spirit than just the brain itself. What some scientists now refer to as "mind" in differentiating it from the brain, remains very poorly understood at best.
According to Psalms 33:15, God "fashions" each one of us "with an individual heart"; according to modern science, there are no two minds that are the same and as such, people have an individual mind. Theory of mind in science includes conscious awareness, "soul", "feelings" and awareness of "self" within our own bodies; more than just the brain (see "Mind" in Encyclopedia Britannica for more information).
According to recent science, the heart dictates feelings to the brain and not the other way around. Like the Bible says, we "are wonderfully and fearfully made" and things like mind, soul, feelings and sense of self remain a great mystery, currently only poorly understood by us folks who are trapped in three dimensions plus time, having only a minutely tiny window into the grand universal design.

Unlike us humans, who sometimes do what God wants and sometimes do not, God's messengers, like God himself, always do what is good and best for other people and for us personally. While the devil's messengers always do what is bad for other people and for us personally.
