Week 5: The Necessity of Scripture

Another aspect of scripture we want to study is "The Necessity of Scripture". We might think that today we have the Spirit, and God can talk to people directly, so why do we need the Word of God?

We must hear the Word of God to have faith in Christ. This might come by reading, or by listening to preaching of the Word.

Romans 10:17

Our last verse on this week's topic of The Necessity of Scripture tells us that God's Words, which are found in the Bible, are essential to spiritual health. Jesus said we shall live on them - our spiritual life is maintained and strengthened by the Word just as food maintains our physical body.

Matthew 4:4

Even though mankind knows there is a Higher Power, this verse shows how selfishness and pride causes one to convince himself there is no God.

Psalm 10:3-4

We cannot know God through worldly wisdom but He has chosen to show himself to those who listen and believe in humble faith.

1 Corinthians 1:21

Why does this "folly" resonate with the seeking soul, proving God and His message to be truth? It resonates with the Spirit's power.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5

This verse shows that there will be no excuse for sinners who say they didn't know of God's existence - God will make Himself plain to them.

Romans 1:18-19
