For the Holy Spirit cannot be seen apart from the effect He produces. What was 'shed forth' or 'poured out' could be both seen and heard, were visible and audible, so therefore not the Giver Himself, but the gifts He bestowed.

It was the risen Christ who 'received' the promise of the Holy Ghost, when He ascended to God's right hand: and it was He who shed forth the gifts of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, or 'power from on high'.

* He is called 'the Spirit of the truth' (John 14:17 & John 15:26)).
* As 'the Spirit of Truth' He was 'in' the disciples to whom the Lord Jesus Christ addressed these words, and therefore they knew the Holy Spirit. For they had heard and received the word of God from the mouth of the Lord Jesus Christ, and believed what He had said.

There is so much wonderful truth concerning Him in these verses isn't there.

So True, but i still like milk, better than i like meat. And while i was growing up i rather eat beans than meat And rather drink milk than water.
and the only way I am going to eat GOD's meat, he has to put it on my table and in my plate and he has to command me to "SLAY & EAT". because the meat "GOD"serve is STRONG MEAT! and really not to be desired. yes you are right its east copy and paste, I don't have any excuse saints are sinners that must try harder

when someone asks a question my mind responds to scriptures, because the bible or the word, in the spirit, shows me how to respond to scriptures this is what is called having the mind of Christ because it's no longer me, but him.
It is like He meaning, Christ, I myself must decrease so Christ increase in my life.

There you go teaching again. may i ask how many Lectures have you given on The Holy Spirit and how many people have you lecture to through out the years and what "conferences" have you lead, concerning the "HOLY SPIRIT" of GOD. And about how many hours spent of The Ministry of The "Spirit of GOD? Since GOD has Given you the Teaching GIFT to present to Pastors and mInsisters and Missionaries concerning the Operations of The Third person of The Triune GOD.

I just want to know. how much experience you have on this matter. It seems you have more than me. I have over 40 years. And only GOD knows how many hours of Study I have on The "SPIRIT of GOD" Stewardship. alone. because i wanted to know 1st hand.
And one thing i did find out on my own. That a "Finite mind" can never comprehend the Incomprehensible and The "HOLY SPIRIT" of GOD is "Infinite" and no way a "Finite" mind can comprehend the "Infinite" because The Infinite is "Incomprehensible" by a "finite" mind. [did i get that right]?

Then later on when I reach my 40's and finally got to one of the church fathers, "Tertullian" and observed His penmanship on "The Trinity" and study his concept The Triune GOD, and at the end of the day he came to to the same conclusion i came to, concerning The HOLY SPIRIT of GOD. Which i have listed here in this conversation post. And then i went on, because it was settle and I was happy in my soul and i move on to higher ground and i ain't going 30 years back and Pressing on. i been there and gone! Light years away. But one day when this Mortal puts on Immortality i am to move up into the reveal of GOD. every moment throughout Eternity.

So enjoy your schooling on the "Holy SPIRIT" I 'm gone been there and done that ,is old school, GOD has so much more, Keep on dwelling there. What was 'shed forth', by the risen Christ, were the gifts of the spirit, in the form of 'power from on high', taking the form manifest at Pentecost. For the Holy Spirit cannot be seen apart from the effect He produces. What was 'shed forth' or 'poured out' could be both seen and heard, were visible and audible, so therefore not the Giver Himself, but the gifts He bestowed.

It was the risen Christ who 'received' the promise of the Holy Ghost, when He ascended to God's right hand: and it was He who shed forth the gifts of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, or 'power from on high'.

Greetings Chris,

you are not the only one who grapples for words to express this. But you are one of few who do so humbly and with kindness, which in itself should speak more than the words you write.

I recall someone recently describing the Holy Ghost as like your mother, as a way to understand from the finite way of reasoning. Perhaps a can of worms potentially as the whole 'mother' part can be somewhat 'out there' but nonetheless, it did show the gentleness and care with which we are comforted and given sound reminders of what we have heard form the Son regarding the will of the Father.

In another thread, discussion is being had about life and resurrection now and in the future. I would have to say that the life we now have and live (if indeed we do actually live it) is possible because the Holy Ghost has been shed upon us who believe. We also have the need for the whole Body and the Life of that Body.

The Lord knows what He is doing. We are best to begin with remembering that we are unprofitable servants and to get serving the One Who is now our Lord. He more than helps us and makes it possible for us to do the work He has for us to do, and to live the Life He died to give us.
I am quite sure you know these things.

In the verse above, which refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, who came into the world to die for the sins of the world, it says, ' ... a body hast Thou prepared me ... ' In this case a human frame within which to perform the function of Kinsman Redeemer, and to fulfill God's purpose for Him.

In the case of The Holy Spirit, He is also referred to as, 'The Holy Ghost,' which gives Him form, a spiritual form, which is beyond our understanding to comprehend.

* To look at a dictionary definition of the word, 'Ghost', is to place into the hands of man a role which he is incapable of fulfilling, and therefore will do an injustice to the word as the Holy Spirit Himself would use it, I believe, so only a survey of it's usage within Scripture can really help us to know how we are to understand it.

In Luke 1:35 the wording is particularly helpful:- 'And the angel answered and said unto her (Mary), The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.' Here we have the words, 'The Holy Ghost,' and, 'The power of the Highest,' describing what would, 'overshadow,' or, 'come upon', Mary, that she should conceive and give birth to, 'The Son of God'.

So the word, 'Ghost,' gives form to what would otherwise be, 'power from on high'.

I still don't see what this has to do with what I said. I said, that the Spirit is the Father. This passage you quoted from Luke is one of the evidences of that. Why is God called the Father? He is Jesus' father. If a third person of the Trinity is who impregnated Mary, then that third person would be Jesus' father. For God to be Jesus' father He must be the one who impregnated Mary. Notice also that the Holy Spirit is called, "the power of the Highest".

Regarding the word ghost. That is a poor translation. It helps feed a false narrative. The correct term should be, the Holy Wind or Holy Breath, as that is what the Greek and Hebrew words actually mean. However, it's hard to push certain doctrines when one talks about a Holy Wind as opposed to a third person.

What you're trying to explain is unexplainable, not because it's beyond us, but rather, because its contradictory. Church officials in the 5th century put forth a teaching on something they didn't understand and then claimed that anyone who disagreed with them was not a Christian. This teaching became official (Catholic) church doctrine. Later the Reformatiom comes along and the Reformers challenged a lot of Catholic teaching. However, they never challenged this one particular doctrine, so it continued on to today where many Chridtians still will say if you don't beleive this doctrine you can't be a Christian. That doctrine is the Trinity. It's a 5th century Catholic doctrine, not a Biblical one. Church history and Scriputre make that clear.

Tertullian, who is credited with coining the term Trinity as it pertains to Christianity, himself, argued that the Father and the Son were to completely separate beings, not one.

There are writings about the trinity before the 5th century. Augustine also spoke of the trinity.
and even some writings before that. But the Bible itself has trinitarian teaching on the divinity of Jesus.

In a way you are correct The Father and the Son are two separate beings. They are one God, but two beings. The Holy Spirit is the third member.

Yes, I agree. As I mentioned, Tertullian is the one who coined the term as it relates to Christianity. That was around 200 AD. The modern concept of one God in three persons was codified in the Athanasian Creed in the fifth century. Actually, Augustine may have introduced it. It is that Creed that is contradictory.

However, when you say two beings are one God what does that mean? Also how do you reconcile that with Paul's statement to the Corinthians, 'to us there is one God, the Father, and one Lord Jesus Christ'? Here while including Jesus in the statement Paul exclude Jesus when he speaks of the one God. I think it's pretty clear that Paul didn't see two persons as one God.
