Hi there,

I'm new here, and a Muslim. I'm interested in knowing about many religions though, and especially monotheistic ones.

I've done some reading of the Bible and of books such as those of C.S. Lewis, but I think the best way to learn is to talk to a Christian.

I recently set up my own forums for discussion about different cultures in the world and there is a religion section. I don't know if it's allowed to post links to other forums here, so I won't post the link unless a moderator says I can, or if someone is interested by PM.

I'm looking for a knowledgable Christian to join and answer some questions from people of a mix of religions, and also debate.

I'll be sure to read up on the threads here as well to improve my own knowledge.

Welcome to TALKJESUS ... I won't waste you're time , or mine beating around the bush . You have already said that you are trying out other religions for head knowledge i presume ? There is only one true GOD , AND IT IS NOT ALLAH !!! Jehovah is the only GOD and JESUS CHRIST is the only way to salvation . The heart of the muslim religion is that all who do not worship allah , and accept him as the only god is an infidel , and therefore must be destroyed . Are you a wondering muslim , or are you a osama bin ladden muslim ? What do you think of osama bin ladden ? Is he a champion for the muslim cause , or is he a murderer of 2500 human's in New York City alone , not counting the others he murdered because we are infidels who defiled his homeland , Saudi Arabia ? The muslim religion acknowledges JESUS CHRIST EXISTENCE , but says he is not the son of the only GOD ! JESUS CHRIST is LORD over all religions ,and all false gods , including allah . Accept JESUS CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR now , and denounce allah as a false GOD !

To answer some of your questions, I'd say no, I'm not a follower or supporter of Bin Laden, and I don't believe in his interpretations of Islamic Law.

When I speak in English, I call God "God" because that's the English name for Him. When I speak in Arabic, I call Him, "Allah" because that's the Arabic name. If I speak in French, I believe I would be calling Him "Dieu" (sorry for any spelling mistake.. I don't speak French). This means that Christians who speak Arabic as their first language (and there are plenty of them), would also call their god "Allah". I don't believe He is a different god, I believe He is the same god for everyone, and He is called The God (which is basically what the translation of Allah means).

You are right in saying that Muslims acknowledge the existence of Jesus. But we not only acknowledge his existence, we believe he is the promised Messiah. But as you pointed out, we do not believe he is a son of God, plus we believe Mohammed was a prophet, and naturally, you don't believe that. Muslims also believe that the Torah, Psalms and Gospel were true revelations from God by way of His prophets, but we believe they have been corrupted by scholars.

Islam shares with Christianity its belief in the afterlife, and in the signs of the end of times, and in the appearance of the anti-Christ and the return of the Messiah. There are many things in common between the two religions, however, I find that many Western Christians portray Islam as an "oriental" religion that is closer to Hinduism and paganism than it is to monotheistic faiths, and they point out that "Allah" is a pagan god.

These are false notions about Islam. I dislike the spread of false notions, which is why I would like to take the time in reading about Christianity to amend any false notions I might have of the religion.

Here is what Christ Jesus, our LORD told HIS disciples in John, the 16th chapter, 13th, 14th, and 15th verses, (Amp.version, WORD OF GOD).
"But when HE, the SPIRIT of TRUTH (the TRUTH giving SPIRIT) comes, HE will guide you into all Truth (the whole, full Truth). For HE will not speak HIS own message [on HIS own authority]; but HE will tell whatever HE hears [from the FATHER; HE will give the message that has been given to HIM], and HE will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].
HE will honor and glorify ME, because HE will take of (receive, draw upon) what is MINE and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

Now, go to John, chapter 1, verses 32 and 33. This is John the Baptist speaking (not the writer of the Gospel John). John the Baptist came as the voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness to prepare the way of the LORD (see Isaiah 40:3).
Back to the Gospel of John, chapter 1, vs. 32 and 33.
John (the Baptist) gave further evidence, saying," I have seen the SPIRIT"(I add this myself,[ the SPIRIT of TRUTH we've been talking about]) "descending as a dove out of heaven, and IT dwelt on HIM [never to depart]."
"And I did not know HIM nor recognize HIM, but HE (God the FATHER) WHO sent me to baptize in (with) water said to me, Upon HIM WHOM you shall see the SPIRIT descend and remain, that ONE is HE WHO baptizes with the HOLY SPIRIT ( this I add: which is none other than the SPIRIT of TRUTH!!!)."
Isn't it all so amazing, how the Creator, and Maker, and LORD of all the universe was sent here by HIS FATHER ( our Father GOD) in the person of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, and by HIS HOLY, BLESSED SPIRIT ( the SPIRIT of TRUTH), HE comes to live in our hearts. We are born first in "the natural," and then "in the spirit," by the HOLY SPIRIT OF JESUS CHRIST our LORD.
I remember someone once saying something that I've never forgotten. He said, "JESUS CHRIST is THE LORD, whether you want HIM to be or not. Just because you don't want HIM to be, doesn't change the TRUTH." JESUS said " I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE," Amen and Amen!!!

But I have a question for you regarding this quote by John the Baptist. It's been a long time since I last read the Bible, but I believe that some Jews approached John the Baptist and asked him: "Are you (someone, I forgot who)?" and he said "no". Then they asked him "Are you the promised Messiah?" and he said "no". Then they asked him "Are you that prophet?" and he said "no".

I want to know who they meant by "that prophet" if that prophet is not Jesus, since they already asked if he was the Messiah before and he denied it. Were the Jews expecting both a promised Messiah and another prophet?

You say that Jesus told his disciples that the "spirit of truth" will come and he will deliver the message of God to the people.. he won't speak of himself, but whatever the Lord tells him to say. So if Jesus said this, he's not referring to himself in the third person, so who is the spirit of truth? Is it the Holy Ghost? and is the Holy Ghost the 1/3 of God who's wandering around on Earth while the other 2/3 are in Heaven?

There are over a billion Muslims in the world. If Islam did indeed encourage terrorism, then on 9/11 there wouldn't have been four planes hijacked, there would have been at least 100 planes hijacked. Compared to the number of Muslims in the world, the number of terrorists is nothing.

Another thing you might want to consider is that the Middle East is having some political problems. This is one of the main reasons for terrorism, not religion. In Ireland (where I'm currently living), the IRA claim they are fighting for Catholics. But it's no longer a sectarian war, it has become a political one.

I can find Christians who have done terrible things and tell you Christianity encouraged it, but that would be stupid because it's not true.

Another thing is that you seem to think of the modern state of Israel as the same tribe of Israel mentioned in the Bible. I'm afraid it's not the same. Today's Israelis aren't all Jewish. There are many atheists among them or Buddhists or whatever else. Of course that doesn't give anyone the right to kill them. But the war going on is one about a homeland and human rights. It's against a government that's secularist. It's no Israel of the past.

And Islam does not support the killing of civilians. The people who do this are violating Islamic Law and are criminals. Please get your facts straight before making accusations. I'm not here to correct misconceptions about Islam. I'm here to read about Christianity.

Yes THE HOLY SPIRIT, or HOLY GHOST which ever you prefer. I'm am sure that you are well aware of "all" names given to the HOLY GHOST, but here are a few: THE COMFORTER, COUNSELOR, HELPER, ADVOCATE, INTERCESSOR, STRENGHTENER, STANDBY. I personally believe that the LORD JESUS was the only being to take the human journey that knew exactly who he was, is, and always will be, the SON of THE LIVING GOD!!! GLORY TO HIS HOLY NAME, NAME above all names. Maybe you can answer some of your questions for yourself. About your question about what prophet the Jews were asking John the Baptist about. They simply were asking him if he was a prophet. To John the Baptist's knowledge, he did not consider himself a prophet. He only knew that GOD the FATHER had given him a mission and when he saw the ONE on WHOM the HOLY SPIRIT (in the form of a dove) (so the Baptist would know) descend upon to remain on ( never to depart), the Baptist would know that was the LAMB of GOD, WHO takes away the sins of the world. jmh137

Thanks for the link to your forum, my ISP has been down so not got there yet but I would like to join and discuss some Arabic. Many do not know like you said Allah is Arabic for God! I have a study of the most ancient star charts going on and have come into contact with many Arabic names which may prove interesting for your Arab friends at your forum. The similarities in the two books are not strange, mohammed believed the old testament was devine revelation, which he read and studied. After that time he was allegedly visited. He is clever aswell creative, but no prophet. He inserted himself into the Bible simply by imagination. He is not the counseler. Jesus is lord and savior, I love him.

Most scholars and historians, both Muslim and non-Muslim acknowledge that Mohammed was illiterate. He couldn't read and write. The Old and New Testaments were not available in Arabic until 200 years after Mohammed's death. They were only available in other languages. Mohammed only spoke Arabic.

A certain group of Arabs in that era were followers of Abraham. They were neither Jewish nor Christian. They just worshipped the God of Abraham and were monotheistic. Mohammed came from this group of people.

Who says I'm not listening? I'm reading the info posted to me about Christianity and info in other subforums. I don't think encouraging people to denounce Islam would make it easier for you to convert them to Christianity. People who are already Muslims already believe in God, in the Messiah, and in the afterlife and many other things. If you make them denounce their religion first, they'll end up being atheists rather than Christians. Your job is to convince them why and how Jesus is the son of God and how the Bible hasn't been corrupted. Because those are the two points they differ in.

I am aware that Moses spoke of Jesus. I never said he didn't. I'm not Jewish. I already believe that Jesus was the promised Messiah. You don't have to tell me that Moses spoke of Jesus to try to prove that.

About your question about what prophet the Jews were asking John the Baptist about. They simply were asking him if he was a prophet. To John the Baptist's knowledge, he did not consider himself a prophet.

But why would they say "that prophet" and not "a prophet"? "That" signifies that there was a certain prophet they spoke about in the past and everyone knew who he was.. he was "that" prophet that they were waiting for.

You're the one who started talking about jihad and what not, and asking me to respond. Now you're saying "we're not here to debate other religions". Then stop asking about other religions.

I'm not a blank sheet of paper. You can't just tell me "accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior" and then expect me to say "okay" and join your family at TalkJesus. That's not a proper way to do missionary work, my friend.
