For a while now I've been aware of Christian folk who have the idea that The Lord's return might be imminent. And things on this earth are getting gradually worse & worse and we are just hanging in there until the rapture.
I have certain difficulties with this view, for several reasons. I guess the first is that light/revelation of the Lord and His glory amongst His people has been increasing steadily since the end of the dark ages. There have been many revelations and revivals since 14th century. But I don't personally believe the Lord will return until this world has an opportunity to see Him manifest in his glory, through His body the Church. For centuries Christians have been praying the Lords prayer; Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven... often I believe without really expecting it to happen.
This is speaking of the perfect will of God – as in heaven – being done on earth. There are Christians praying your Kingdom come now in the church meetings expecting God to show up in Holy Spirit power and establish the kingdom in their midst, they are witnessing many signs, and wonders and miracles. I now of one lady who has seen the Lord raise up about about 80 people from the dead. Churches that are in the flow of what God is doing at this present time are growing by about 8.8% per annum, and have been over the last 30 years, that is quite some growth!
Sometimes it seems as though the world and the devil is having it's little victories over the Church, I believe this is an illusion, and one that is going to be shattered before our Lord returns. I remember once in the late seventies hearing this prophecy; "...who do men say that I am, when they say I am this or that other the other or that I am small or do not exist believe them not, ... for Yea there will be a performance of those things that even the most feeble of hearts can believe... says the Lord." Later on that night there were many miracles and healing's of both small and great things.
But I believe there is going to be a time when the manifest glory of God is so great on this earth, that those who have feeble, unbelieving hearts are going to find it difficult to hang on to their unbelief. And I expect all this to happen before the Lord comes.
So I'm not waiting for the anti-christ to take over and start running things down here.
I'm looking to see the glory of God and His Kingdom come and the greatest revival the world has ever seen.
Blessings,
Tonyb
