Dear Friends in Jesus
I have been a Seventh-day Adventist Christian for sixty years, Faithfully observing the Sabbath on Saturday. Now I have learned that during the time of Jesus the Jews did not know anything at all about a Friday-Saturday-Sunday week day as observed by the Romans, Egyptians, and Pagans, but their Sabbath day was a lunar event occurring every seventh day following the moon. Now my question is, Why do Christians think that Christ was resurrected on Sunday, when Sunday was not the first day of the week then. Before the emperor Constintine ordered that Sunday become the first day of the week in 321 AD the first day was Saturday; but the Jews didn't know anything about this--they did not follow the Roman week which if they did, then Friday would be the seventh day. This might not sound like a big deal to most Christians, but as a Sabbatarian, it is a big deal to me, and I would like some serious answers if anyone cares to comment. Thank you and God bless the study of His word.

Hello Yonder,

Welcome to TJ. It is a pleasure meeting you. As to your comment, all I can say is - does it really matter what day our Lord rose from the dead only that He did. The churches today get into too much adherence to the letter of the law (legalism) when it concerns anything whether it be days, events, or even principles.

What does Jesus think of all this? I am sure it must break His heart to see us debate over this issue or any other. I believe His desire is that our first priority is getting know Him and walk as He walk. That is all I am going to say about this except:

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. - Philippians 3:7-9

I pray that your journey with Him will bring a deeper knowledge of who He is and His love for you. God bless you.

Best wishes,
Snowrose

It's interesting that of all the divisions of time only the week has no astronomical basis. The day, month, and year, all are circumscribed by such things as the rotation of the earth, the moon, etc. This is one legacy that we have of God's creation of this earth, because the Bible says that God created the world in six days and rested the seventh. So our week comes directly from God Himself. As for uncertainty concerning which day Jesus rose from the dead there shouldn't be much question. In John 20:1 it says the women came to the tomb on the first day of the week. As far as which day of the week is the first even the Hebrew language calls it the first unto the Sabbath (if I remember correctly).

Yours in the blessed hope.

I believe that I should worship God with my life every day of the week. I don't think my God is too concerned about which day I worship Him in church. It's my relationship with Him that is important - not which day of the week I attend church. It's the fact that He's risen that's so hugely important - not which day it occurred.

This seems to be a really old thread but an interesting one.
Some indeed still follow days and moons.
We are kings and priests before Christ and priests can actually work on the Sabbath.
Other than that, the Old Testament is a type and shadow of the New.
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Sabbath as He is my Sabbath rest.
In Christ I can do no fleshly work and in Christ my time is spent communing with the Father!:shade::shade:

Hello dear lady.

We could talk all night about History and Sabbaths, and Saturdays, and lunar events and ......well the list could go on.

But have you met Him?

The important thing is to meet Jesus....alll else will then retire away

Yonder, you haven't visited TalkJesus in quite some time, but, I hope you connect with this thread again. You raise valid questions. However, they should be researched through the works of Christian apologists such as Josh McDowell, N. T. Wright, Lee Strobel, etc.
