Where do we go when we die?

Some things we Won't have a precise passage to refer to. Abraham's bosom for example. The account of the rich man and Lazarus -- Hades is on one side and Paradise is across a great abyss that separates the two areas. Upon the death of born again believers -- they are with Jesus Christ immediately. 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 in particular vs 8. And Luke 23:43. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He went to Abrahams' bosom to get those waiting for Him and the thief on the cross acknowledged Jesus Christ while they were both nailed to the cross. That thief would be the last person to die before Christ died For our sins. After That -- only Hades (Sheol) would be occupied.

All sounds very plausible.

So, "we remain there until Judgement Day."

It would be judgement day for the lost souls.

It would be resurrection day for the saved souls.

How long do you suppose "We" wait there?

Until Judgement/Resurrection Day.

While remain there...this is the the Spiritual; not the Physical, right?

Interesting question.

If the body goes back to the dust of the ground, and the spirit of the believer goes back to God, is the soul spiritual or physical? What we do know is those in Hades are conscious.

Another question could be, what happens to the spirit of a sinner, a lost soul, at death?

True Sue,

We know then Hades is lower down in the ground, we know a great gulf separates the Paradise section from the Torment section, so where is the Paradise section separated by the great gulf? In the ground.

Shalom

Jesus gave up his spirit before the other two on the cross died, so Christ died first from that prospective.

But, Jesus said, today you shall be with me in Paradise. So the thief saying to Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom, was from the heart and accepted as Lord forgive me all my sins.

Yes, No?

Genesis 2:7 (NKJV): 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Genesis 2:7 (KJV 1900): 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The Bible doesn't say they have souls, it says they "became" souls.

Genesis 2:7 points out the man, the body of flesh, is what became a living soul when God breathed in his nostrils the breath of life.

Soul, nephish refers to throat not nostril, though they are attached, so I read as, God breathed into the nostrils, via the throat, the nephew, into the newly created body, and it, the flesh body, 'became' a Iiving soul.

Therefore the body is the soul, when the breath of life was added it became a living soul.

Would you agree?

Which part of the body Sue? Can we be as clear as possible.
Bother, let's be clear here and I think the Bible supports this:

God is Spirit.
Jesus in his resurrected life, is Spirit and a Resurrected body (God given).

God tells us that those who are born of the Spirit, will have a body just like Jesus.

Though the Bible doesn't elaborate, apparently the Resurrected Body can transform between the Physical and Spiritual with ease and ,also, it seems, that once we die, we will have these same capabilities!

When we die, we move to the Spirit world; eventually with the presents of God or without ...I choose with!

I agree with that, - though I'm hardly a hebrew scholar.

What we should be clear on, is that when the Bible says "soul" it doesn't mean an immortal immaterial essence of a person. The ghost in a machine idea is Greek philosophy, not the Bible.

No one has entered heaven save he who descended from it. John 3.

Paradise is not heaven. The problem in thinking the thief joined Jesus in heaven, when Jesus told the thief, today you shall be with me in paradise, (Luke23) , is that Jesus ascended to heaven 43 days after his crucifixion.

Which makes the paradise today promise untenable when thinking paradise is heaven.
There are three heavens referred to in scripture.

While paradise is the abode of the righteous dead, those who died in the Lord, who sleep.
Luke chapters 16 and 23,2 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4.

O
Jesus was resurrected in the flesh.
He had a glorified body.
He was able to show his crucifixion wounds to his doubting disciples, John 20. But he was not flesh and blood when he ascended at the conclusion of his 40 days on earth.
1 Corinthians 15.

He calmned the Disciples by telling them he was not a ghost, because He had just appeared among them with doors closed!!!

He wanted them to touch him..He latter ate and drank with them.

He was in his Resuurected Body , just like the one God promised us!!!

I am on my mobile not laptop so don't find it easy flipping about and cutting and pasting from scripture and notes, sorry.

From memory, after Jesus was resurrected, there were two accounts of the stages of his body. One he said don't touch me, later he said to Thomas touch me and believe, as if his body was adjusting. That said Jesus resurrected after appearing ten times to his disciples and followers in body and spirit.

Yes, his glorified body.
Flesh and bone, as he was prior to the cross, cannot pass through walls and locked doors.

Paradise is not heaven, totally agree.

Paradise is the waiting place for saved souls, Jesus said to the thief who asked to be remembered by him, today you will be with me in Paradise, so this thief, accepting Jesus in that way, was saved.

But, Jesus did not say he would see the thief on Paradise, today and tomorrow, no, no, only that day. Jesus would not see him in paradise every day for several reasons. He would not be staying there. He would be seen ten times and then he would ascend to the Father.

Paradise is a waiting place for saved souls, but it is not soul sleep we will be conscious.

Shalom
