So Satan has nothing to do with it then?
The Bible speaks of "the flesh". We are perfectly capable of sinning without Satan's help.
Here is a small sampling.
Rom 7:5; For while we were in
the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death.
Rom 7:14; For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.
Rom 7:18; For I know that
nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.
Rom 7:25; Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other,
with my flesh the law of sin.
Rom 8:3; For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of
sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
Rom 8:4; so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who
do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Rom 8:5; For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
Rom 8:6; For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
Rom 8:7; because
the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,
Rom 8:8; and
those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Rom 8:9; However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
Rom 8:12; So then, brethren,
we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—
Rom 8:13; for
if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
The only thing Satan can do to believers (as far as sin goes) is tempt us to sin.
Matt 4:3; And
the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."
1Thes 3:5; For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that
the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain.
Luke 22:31;
"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat;
Jas 1:13; Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
Jas 1:14; But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by
his own lust.
Jas 1:15; Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
Gal 5:19; Now
the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20; idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
Gal 5:21; envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:16; But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not
carry out the desire of the flesh.
Gal 5:17; For
the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for
these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
