So -- let's try 'this' One More Time -- How does a person get 'born - again'.
How about simply agreeing on what Scripture clearly states. As in the 1 Corinthians 15 passage.
David -- what is your background denominationally?
No one is claiming that passage as any defense of Romanism. Where do you get your theology from?
I'm thinking you were being misled. What you might have been experiencing was simply an emotional reaction. A more emotionally based person is more likely to succomb to 'babbling' -- that is something I observed in a charismatic church I'd attending many years ago. The pastor was giving a very 'hyped-up' sermon -- he knew how to 'work' a congregation into emotion-based activities. There was an older couple sitting a few rows ahead of us. All of a sudden the man started 'babbling' and then stopped and sat back down.
Your experience that you've described tells me that whatever Did happen to you was Not satisfying to you. If it Had been filling a spiritual need within yourself, you would have stayed to learn more There.
Sounds like what you've set yourself up For is a great deal of confusion. Why would you Need to learn all of those teachings if you were finding what you needed 'way back then'.
Sounds like all you're going to be 'learning' is More emotion-based 'feeling' like you'd experienced all those years ago. You'd Left it way back then for a reason. But now you feel that since you now have a son who is starting to learn spiritual things, you need to have him in a good church. Having children Does get parents to get more serious about spiritual things.
But -- please -- find a church that is not so 'emotions-based' -- be someplace to learn All of God's Word -- not just 'popular' portions. Our emotions can lead us astray.
It's almost like that particular denomination Focuses on emotions Instead of God's Word. When reading -- be in both the Old Testament And the New Testament. Begin in Genesis and read a few chapters every day or so -- and then read in New Testament -- a few chapters or so of one of the books and read it all the way through. That way you can get a better bigger picture of what's happening.
I didn't babble. So, you accepted the teachings of your particular sect without investigating?
Actually, being born again is a metaphor. Being born of the Spirit is the resurrection. Paul states,God provides a person a direct subjective communion with Him, submerging a person in the Holy Spirit.
She was saying not to accept those teachings.
@ Butch5 -- take a look at John 3:3 - Jesus Christ is talking to Nicodemus -- "Most assuredly, I say too you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
vs 4 "Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
vs 5" Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
vs 6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
vs 7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again. "
That's why I use the term a "born-again' believer. Because there are Lots of people who believe in their Head About Jesus being a person who was a great religious teacher 'back then' -- and / or that He was the Son of God. But they have Not accepted Jesus Christ as their Personal Savior. So they are Not a 'born-again' believer. They Have been born Physically, but not Spiritually.
And, yes, a result OF being 'born-again' is that the person Does have the Holy Spirit indwelling them Which means that God Will also raise 'the born-again believer- up in the last day. Those born-again believers who are alive at the time of the rapture will be taken up in the twinkling of the eye when Jesus Christ comes in the air to gather up His Church / the Bride of Christ. And Then those who have died in the past will be gathered up Also.
And That passage is saying that the Holy Spirit Does give Spiritual life to those who previously had only been alive physically.
