What if the English language didn't have a specific word like the Greek does? Then the translators chose a different word, ( through no fault of their own) and it changed something very important in God's word. Would that be considered adding or taking something away from the original Greek word of God in your understanding?

@Faither -- I'm curious -- are you going any where particular with this subject of translating Scripture?

And, no I've not gotten into Greek word learning -- but I Do have a Strong's concordance. The Greek / Hebrew words and their meanings. I've used it several times in the process of being on various Forums.

Are you by chance a pastor? Or simply another lay person who likes to study? Just curious.

33 years of learning on a daily basis, at a Stanford University level of teaching, with the largest collection of Biblical manuscripts in private hands behind the Vatican at the teachers fingertips.

This has validated the experience I've been having with a relationship with Christ also for 33 years.

The words believe, believer, and believing, are the English language translation of the Greek word" pisteuo", used 248 times in the NT. Pisteuo is the most important word in the scriptures, and it couldn't be translated into the English language.

When the translators needed a word to correctly translate pisteuo into the English language, there wasn't one! The English language doesn't have a corresponding verb to the noun Faith, like the Greek does. So they were forced to choose a different word that would come close to it, hence believe, believer, and believing. These words are part of pisteuo as a whole , but taken on their own is error. Believe, believer, and believing are corresponding verbs to the noun" Belief " , not the noun " Faith ". The Greek language doesn't have the words believe, believer, and believing in their vocabulary. There is only pisteuo, moving towards God, and Apisteuo moving away from God. No middle or neutral ground.

Pisteuo, is the corresponding verb to the noun Pistis, where we get our English word Faith. Pisteuo being a verb is an action word. As pisteuo relates to the living God, the right question isn't what I think it means, but what the Greek dictionary says it means.

Vines, " a personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender. Producing a full acknowledgement of God's revelation of truth."

Strong's gives the disclaimer," pisteuo means NOT just to believe."

Pisteuo is an act, based upon a Belief, sustained by confidence.

The words that should have been available to the translators and corresponding verbs to the noun Faith are faithe, faithing, and faither.

If you can consume this and have no questions, we could talk about what specific act, based upon what specific belief, sustained by what specific kind of confidence.

This mistranslation has not only created a false or wide path, " believe and recieve" but has changed the " object " of saving Faith and faithing from God Himself a real living person, to God's word and His promises.

I really don't see how this was done intentionally, but there has definitely been things added and taken away from the original Greek texts. And it's created a stumbling block for millions of called out ones.

Well -- to begin with -- I don't see that That would be an example of words being taken away From or added to Scripture.

God, Himself IS the living word. God is Spirit -- not a real living person like We are. The person of Jesus Christ -- the Son of God -- Is the Word That's why Jesus Christ could say "I am He'. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was With God and the Word Was God.

In other words -- faith without works is dead?! As in James. A person sees another persons's 'faith' by their actions. But those actions are not part Of their salvation. A true believer isn't going to be content to simply stay at home 'twiddling their finger' -- the Holy Spirit Will be nudging them to get busy Doing something -- helping out at church or like sharing on this Forum.

Thus far -- my understanding of ..... am I on track ?

Those words are a part Of "pisteuo '' as a whole. but shouldn't be taken on their own. So -- believe, believer and believing are as close an equivant to "pisteuo" as the English language could come up with.

We don't have a word in English to correspond to Pisteuo -- which is actually 'faith'. Actually -- 'faith' is the English for Pistis -- which is a form Of Pisteuo.

I've just been doing some 'googling' -- that was After I was looking up some of those words via verses that they were in. Didn't come up with much.
