I have obtained the books 'Heavenly Man' and 'Ten Fingers for God'. I am 3/4 the way through Heavenly Man. What a testimony Yun is. I encourage any who name the name of Christ to read this biography. Warning...it is not for the feint hearted.

Thank you for sharing this Quantrill.

I shall keep an eye out for the one you mentioned. I too was drawn and interested in biographies when i became a Christian.

Ten Fingers For God about Paul Brand, missionary doctor/surgeon to people with Leprosy in India also comes to mind.

Bless you ....><>

I am about halfway through the book. I certainly appreciate it. A man, Dr. Brand, though not having an 'official missionary call' was used of God as a missionary to not only heal people from the affects of Leprosy. but also lead many to Christ in a very anti-christian evironment. So many unnamed persons who were faithful to their duties helped him whose rewards will be seen in Heaven I'm sure.

Great book. I encourage any to obtain it and read it. "Ten Fingers for God". Just think of the many untold stories we have to look forward to in Heaven.

And, as a P.S. to the last post, each one of our stories will be one of those.

On that day, we who are Christian, I guarantee you , Jesus Christ will only have good things to say about you. He Who is your judge, died for you. What a deal!

Another book I would like to share is By Searching -My journey through Doubt into Faith - by the late Isabel Kuhn (A Candian Missionary in China)

This first book describes her seeking and finding the Lord.
It is a gentle book that glorifies the Lord......showing His hand working wondrously as Isabel seeks Him out.

Her subsequent books are about her missionary work

I will keep an eye out for the movie. But I am usually disappointed in the movies. I will see.

I have no doubt of brother Yun's faith.

I have never heard of her. The book is still available and I will get it. So many Christian missionaries lie at the base of the China atheistic fortress having given their lives either literally or figuratively for their brethren in China. And they still do today.

Concerning the book, 'Ten Fingers for God', about Dr. Paul Brand, there is much to learn. We as human beings naturally have a bad view of pain. We avoid it. We take medicine to relieve it. But those who are lepers, pain is something they wish they had back. It is a friend and not an enemy. The absence of pain is their enemy. God wanted Dr. Paul Brand to know this fully.

Here are a few quotes depicting a most horrific time in Dr. Brands life while in S. Africa on furlough.

"When he arrived in his room in Nethania, he sank gratefully into a chair and pulled off his shoes. Then suddenly it came, without warning, perhaps the blackest moment of his whole life. For as he leaned over and pulled off his sock, he made a discovery. There was no feeling in his heel. "

"He rose mechanically, found a pin, sat down again, and pricked the small area below his ankle. He felt no pain. He thrust the pin deeper, until a speck of blood showed. Still he felt nothing.....Then he got up and flung himself on the bed. "

"So--it had come. He supposed, like other workers with leprosy, he had always half expected it."

"...clicking heels and laughing children, were as remote as planets in outer space. He would never be a part of them again. Ostracized, taboo, 'outside the pale,' leper!

"What should he do now with his life?...He must not live intimately with his family again. Should he go back to India....what a blow to leprosy work! Here he had been telling his team it wasn't contagious! Few of them would ever dare engage in such work again."

"It would be easier just to disappear....cold reason shocked him into sanity. 'Coward!...And you're the one who has been telling everybody that leprosy is curable.!"

"With clinical objectivity he found another pin...bared the skin below his ankle, jabbed in the point--and yelled. The relief of the blessed pain was staggering. His first reaction was to fall on his knees and thank God. The next was to fling open a window and breathe deeply of the warm April air,....The third was to berate himself for being a stupid fool. The explanation of his mistake was simple enough. Sitting in the train all the way from the coast, still too weak from the flu for normal restless motion, he had numbed a nerve."

"...hereafter his sympathy for his patients would become empathy. He would know exactly how they felt at that first most shattering stage of their sickness. And as time passed the episode was to spark an awareness which became the basis of profound religious experience. What an absolutely glorious sensation it had been to feel that sharp painful thrust of the pin!...Thank God for pain!"

Greetings

That was like it was only yesterday that I read the book! Amazing things our memories

You know after roughly 30 years I still tell people that pain is really something to be very thankful for

What I have been learning is that there are many different types of pains and equally as many causes and so we all need to extend a hand of love rather than condemnation but I am a slow learner and am still learning to be able to do that at all times with and for all people

Another lesson is two edged
That we don't despise painful lessons or chastising from the Lord
And that we often must minister to people who are numb to things of God and His Life - and in doing so remember that the Hand of God once reached down to us and restored our 'feeling'; ye who were sometime dead hath He quickened

Thank you Quantrill for the name of the book. Shall try to remember it when near an old books store or the like.

I didn't know about Don Richardson's passing. He wrote well. He also wrote Eternity In Their Hearts which was challenging.
I read most of Richard Wurmbrand's books that were available in my tongue.

I think there was one or more other books also about the work of Paul Brand. Inspiring, to say the least. He helped people to realise what Leprosy is and what it isn't which helped countless people and paved the way for a lot of help for those with leprosy. I remember in my earliest years as a Christian, a chap from the Leprosy Mission telling our small little fellowship in a small little community how people in leprosy affect areas were quite superstitious and would huddle together under one blanket type of covering at night to keep safe from roaming spirits. By learning of the Lord they not only were freed from that superstition and fear but were able to stop spreading the leprosy so much as it spreads much like the common clod does and sleeping together like that was like incubating the disease. Having already read Ten Fingers For God, I was most interested and learnt even more from that special time of sharing.
Sort of what fellowship ought to be at least in part.

Another favourite of mine was the author, Norman Grubb, who wrote well and my introduction to him was in reading The Intercessor. the story of Reece Howells,

Memories.

I am glad that you have found some books to read.
May you be encouraged and blessed as you read the stories in these books.

Please let us know what you think of them at some stage.

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The LORD lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
