First of all, Halloween is a secular holiday. Man created it, not God. A born again Christian has light from the Lord. Before we were saved, we were full of darkness. The simple fact that this holiday is usually celebrated during the dark hours of the night lends itself to evil and or sinful behavior. As a child, I celebrated Halloween, going from door to door in my neighborhood collecting as much candy as I could. Yes, it was fun and scary! It was fun to get scared back then, but back then I didn't have a relationship with Jesus. Back then I didn't understand, I am in the world but not of the world.( John 17:15-17)-I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth. 1 John 2:15-Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Most adults who attend a Halloween party will indulge in alcohol and or drugs. They will be spending the evening with Satan in his playground. A dangerous place to be if Jesus were to return. If everything we do is suppose to honor God, why would I want to dress up in some crazy costume, drink a bunch of alcohol, and listen to loud music ? Been there, done that, before I knew Jesus. Now that I have a new birth and the Holy Spirit lives in my heart, I can't imagine taking Him to a Halloween party. (1 Peter 1:14-15)-As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. Once I went to a Halloween party at a church. I felt uncomfortable the whole time. There was nothing holy about it. The Holy Spirit was not leading me to witness, He was leading me home! I left early and decided to never again celebrate Halloween. Celebrating this secular holiday may seen all innocent, but the appearance is evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22- Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Modern celebrations of Halloween may appear on the surface to be quite harmless, but the spiritual implications of dabbling with the spirit world are extremely serious. God alone is the giver of life and all good things. To give recognition to false gods, and to imitate practices that honor them, is unacceptable and idolatrous. Not judging you brothers and sisters in Christ. I would never do that. I'm simply telling you what the Holy Spirit is telling me to do concerning Halloween. Parents, curious about your answer to this question: How can you read the Bible to your child every night and then turn around and take them to a Halloween party? How would you explain this activity to them?
Lord, we know that the Bible does not talk specifically about Halloween, but it talks a lot about evil. May all brothers and sisters in Christ, all around the world, follow the leading of the Holy Spirit concerning Halloween. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
