Matt 15:7; "You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you:
Matt 15:8; 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
Matt 15:9; 'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'"
It seems these verses are not about people who worship other gods. These verses are about people who honor "ME" (God) with their lips.
These verses are about people who worship "ME" (God).
But they are missing something. They are worshiping the right God. (not idols or other gods)... but their hearts are far away. They are worshiping Him "in vain".
Also it seems they are teaching the "traditions" of men, as if they were "doctrines" (teachings from scriptures).
To me, this indicates you can be "too wrong" in what you teach. I suppose everyone is a little off sometimes. Everyone makes doctrinal mistakes sometimes.
But how far off are you allowed to be? Apparently there is a limit.
2 Jn 1:10; If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting;
2 Jn 1:11; for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.
There are plenty of people who say... oh I believe in God, or oh yeah, I believe in Jesus. But how many of them are worshiping Him with "all" their heart?
How many are worshiping Him in vain? How many are teachings things not in the Bible? Some of us have become far too lenient in what we accept.
Matt 7:21; "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Matt 7:22; "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
Matt 7:23; "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
The verses above are not about people who don't believe in Jesus. They are calling Him "Lord". They are doing good things "in Your name". (Jesus's name)
These people are not worshiping some other god.
But apparently they are not doing the will of the Father. ...also it seems the main problem is.. they are still "practicing" lawlessness (sin)
The word practicing here seems to indicate they are still doing all the time, everyday. They have never learned obedience to the Father.
Matt 19:16; And someone came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?"
Matt 19:17; And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."
Matt 19:18; Then he *said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;
Matt 19:19; HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
Matt 19:20; The young man *said to Him, "All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?"
Mat 19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."
Mat 19:22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.
Mat 19:23 And Jesus said to His disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Again here is a man who believes in God, he says he keeps the commandments, he wants eternal life.
This isn't someone who doesn't believe in God. This isn't someone who is worshiping another god.
But Jesus tells him to "sell your possessions and give to the poor"... Jesus also adds "follow Me".
It says the man "went away grieving". Jesus says it hard for rich people to enter heaven. (and yet, we all want to be rich )
How many of us obey God up to a point? But then when He asks us to do something to prove our faith.... to give up everything for Him.... to "follow" Him.
Isn't that we are worshiping the wrong gods. It's that we aren't really "worshiping" the right God.
