The Book says to pray to the Father in Jesus name. The Holy Spirit is God's spirit...
John 15:16
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

John 16:23
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

I don't suppose God would be offended if you thanked the Holy Spirit, though, for showing you something.

John 4:24 NASB
God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Today I attended a new church, and really liked the message. But I had never herd a pastor praising the Holly spirit before. Although everything he said lined up with the word. It was actually a lot more radical and pure from any other church I had been to.

On the way home thats all I thought about. The first thought is well the trinity includes the Holly spirit and all three make up God so seem right to me.

So God is spirit and Jesus is God, it seems to be ok as my understanding as of right now. Worshiping any of the three is worshiping one and the same.

Interestin thought....Worsip = to bow down, prostrate oneself; before superior in homage; before God in worship

If I were to praise you, Would I say something like "Dave, You are really talented, I love the way you wrote that article..." Or would it be better if I said something like..."Spirit of Dave...I think you're wonderful, You are so talented. I love the way you wrote that article." Which would you prefer?

I know not everyone believe this, but ...
first let me say I believe in the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Spirit.
But even though I believe this... there is a hierarchy in the God-head.

The Holy Spirit doesn't really bring attention to Himself.

John 15:26; "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,

The Spirit testifies about Jesus, not Himself.
John 16:13 But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.

The Spirit glorifies Jesus, not Himself.
The Spirit does nothing on His own accord. He doesn't even speak unless He is told to.

John 16:13; "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
John 16:14; "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

The Spirit goes where Jesus sends Him.

John 16:7; "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

I could go a little further and say even though the Holy Spirit is subject to Jesus,... Jesus was subject to the Father, and will be again.

John 5:19; Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.
John 8:28; So Jesus said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.

After Jesus was resurrected more authority was given to Him.... (for a while)

Matt 28:18; And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

But eventually He will give this authority back to the Father, and again be subject to to the Father.

1 Cor 15:24; then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.
1 Cor 15:25; For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
1 Cor 15:26; The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
1 Cor 15:27; For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.
1 Cor 15:28; When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.

Even now, what is the purpose of Jesus.... to get us to Himself? No... to get us to the Father.

John 14:6; Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

John 4:21; Jesus *said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
John 4:23; "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

So while it may not be wrong to "worship" the Holy Spirit, I believe His real purpose is to draw us to Jesus.
It certainly isn't wrong to worship Jesus, but His purpose is to get us to the Father.

Brother @B-A-C thanks so much for this. would love to get your thoughts on this statement off a church website. "We believe that the Holy Spirit is not a doctrine to be studied, but a Person to love, worship, and submit to "

Is it biblical to praise and worship the Holly Spirit?

No!! What is His name?

We know God the Father's name Gen 17:1. We know God the Son's name. We do not know His name. So it can only be odd / out of place to direct praise or worship to Him. Especially with all the ''spiritual'' teaching today.

Bendito hit the nail on the head in post # 2.

Matt 28:19; "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

I wonder why the Bible would say ...the name of.... the Father. the Son. ...and the Holy Spirit?

Not that it proves anything of course, but with regard to the Trinity I think it's interesting to note that Paul never once includes the Holy Spirit in any of his letter's salutations.

The trinity makes our salvation possible. The Holy Spirit's name is just That. The Holy Spirit.

A person doesn't 'talk' To the Holy Spirit. We pray -- In Jesus' name because he's the mediator between God and us. The cross of Christ bridges the gap between us and God. Sin broke the original union between us and God.

Our actual relationship is with God the Father.

2 Cor.3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty.
:) so yes ,you already pray to the Spirit, caise God is Spirit and that Spirit names is Jesus (the Lord).
We dont find even a single prayer or glorification to the Sprit (is God`s nature, i dont come to you calling you "hey human", but i call you with your name)

@ pet -- the question is about the Holy Spirit -- 'we' pray to God the Father Through Jesus Christ. So we're not praying To the Holy Spirit. We're talking about various parts of the trinity.

The Holy Spirit Can intercede for us when we pray but don't really know how to express ourselves so as we are inwardly groaning -- He, the Holy Spirit dwells within us.

And, yes, God Is Spirit -- we are to worship God in spirit and in truth. Our praise and worship is to be focusing on God our Father.

There Are various jobs that the Holy Spirit does -- indwelling the believer, convicting us of sins, teaching us. Those come to mind right now.

ok the question i saw was :
"Is it biblical to praise and worship the Holy Spirit?"
and i say again . Yes and No
Yes we pray to the Holy Spirit because God is Spirit and "the Lord is that Spirit"
but from the other site there not a single adoration, glorification ,prayer in the Bible to the Spirit!
Why this? Because Spirit id the nature of God and like i dont call you "human being" but with your name ,the same goes for God.
(i believe that the Spirit of God baptises us today too, gives us gifts etc. but i dis not wanted to take it further that what was asked) .
*We have only one Lord and "the Lord is that Spirit" , so yes i pray to the Spirit (in the Spirit) but call him Jesus or Father or Lord..God etc.
QUOTE="Sue D., post: 329911, member: 33613"]"We're talking about various parts of the trinity." (i speak just about the Holy Spirit of the Bible not Theological terms)

@ pet -- we are given examples of prayer -- the Lords' Prayer. "Our Father who art in heaven - hallowed be Thy name. etc.

There are two different questions being asked. One is regarding praising and worshiping the Holy Spirit the Other question is what You have brought up / Praying to the Holy Spirit.

God gives us examples to follow. No where in Scripture is anyone praying to the Holy Spirit.

You ask Why there are no examples of what you are looking for -- It's because there Are None.

The Godhead / Trinity consists of God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son and the Holy Spirit. They all work together to provide our salvation, but they all have different 'jobs' to do in that process.

The Holy Spirit's name IS Holy Spirit. So - when you pray -- how doo you start out your prayer. Do you start out "Dear heavenly Father"? That's how I was taught, because That is who I'm praying To - -God, my heavenly Father. And I close my prayer with 'In Jesus's name I pray, Amen."

Upon a person 's salvation -- the Holy Spirit comes to indwell 'us'. It's the Holy Spirit immersing our soul and never leaving us. Baptizing is our soul being 'immersed' by the Holy Spirit. When a believer is baptized by immersion -- they are being put completely under water / immersed totally. In baptism by immersion in a public place in front of people -- it is 'our' way of showing visually what has already taken place internally. Does that make sense to you?
