The Gap Theory

Before going further this point must be made.

Jesus said to Peter once, "...Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men." (Matt. 16:23) Isn't it interesting here that Jesus did not say that satan savoured his things. He said satan savourest the things of men. Now that man has fallen, mans things and ways are contrary to God. And satan now sides with and promotes those things of men.

This is particularly true in the realm of politics and power located in persons over government. Once Daniel prayed to God but received no answer. Three weeks later an angel from God appeared and told him that the prince of Persia stopped him and withstood him from reaching Daniel. And it would not be until a greater class of angels was sent to over come that prince of Persia. And then later that angel would return and fight again with the Prince of Persia and later with the Prince of Greece. (Dan. 10:12-20)

Now, is there any here who thinks that the Prince of Persia or of Greece who withstood this angel for 21 days is a mere man? Remember men as compared to angels are not to much of an hindrance. One angel killed 185,000 in one night. (Is. 37:36) No, the Prince of Persia was the satanic angelic force behind the Persian man. The Prince of Greece would also be the satanic angelic force behind the man of Greece. And because satan savourest the ways of these fallen creatures (man) he lends to them his ways and power in ruling.

So, just like when Jesus spoke directly to satan though speaking to Peter, you find God speaking directly to satan though speaking to the King of Babylon in (Is. 14:12-17) and to the Prince of Tyre in (Eze. 28:11-19). And how powerful this satan is when even the chief angel Michael dared not contend with him alone. He must have the Lord behind him. (Jude 9)

It is believed that there was a planet between Mars and Jupiter.....The Bible refers to her as Rahab, in Psalms, and the scientists call her Phaeton. This planet was destroyed, and forms the asteroid belt...but apparently, pieces also flew out from her and killed Mars...Pieces also hit other planets according to the scientists....I won't bother talking about that since its a bit of a sidetrack from the OP

In post [HASH=2232]#(20[/HASH]) I brought up two questions that should be considered concerning what occurred during that time period between (Gen. 1:1) and (1:2). What could cause such a catastrophic event to cause the earth to be under such conditions it was in, in (1:2)? And why the earth only? The only possible answer would be the rebellion of satan and his angels who must have had some connection or authority over the earth. Thus when the anger and judgement of God came against him the earth was the center of the battle. And as we have seen in (Daniel), the spiritual war is real war. Angelic war is real.

Why would satan now want to have authority and control over the kingdoms of man? That he has such authority we know. (Luke 4:5-6) "....And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it." I believe that most likely satan had such authority over the earth prior to his rebellion. And when we are told of his fall in (Eze. 14:12), "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, the son of morning....". Whatever satan's authority extended to, and who all was under his authority on the earth, we are not told. But it is this authority and his being the highest of the angels, (Eze. 28:14), that sparked the pride that burst forth in open defiance against God Almighty. (Is. 14:13-14) "For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High." And make no mistake, these 5 'I wills' of satan are still in his heart to do.

For the first time a will was in opposition to the will of God. It was then that God hit the earth and satans rebellion as only God can do. The light was removed, the earth was made a wasteland, and submerged in the waters of judgement. satan and his angels were not immediately destroyed. But, they knew one thing, God was mad. One can only wonder how long that darkness lasted and the activity, the warfare that took place during that time. We know the Spirit of God moved over the earth observing. (Gen. 1:2) The word 'moved' here speaks to God brooding over the condition of the earth. Not a good thing.

With the restoration of the earth in (Gen. 1:3-27), and the creation of man upon the earth, has any considered that satan may have known of God's plan all along to create a creature, man, upon the earth to whom He will eventually give authority over. (Heb. 2:5) "For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak." And this may well have fueled his pride and jealousy also against God. And certainly against man. Due to satan's exhalted position, I believe it is possible. (Eze. 28:14)

Much more could be said, but this is the Gap Theory and the events that possibly occurred during it.

I take the phrase 'formless and void' not to mean that creation was damaged or spoilt, but that it was incomplete.

A lump of clay might be 'formless and void', but still good inasmuch as it can be. But when it is lovingly worked on, shaped and fired, it becomes a beautiful, perfect work of art.

Remember that the first days of creation were without the Sun and Moon. They weren't regular solar days and who knows how long they were. Also, after rereading Genesis I finally realized, as if hidden in small print that God created both man and beast on the 6th day. Beasts were created first then man, as if it doesn't negate evolution there but as if man came out of beast in this way. The day before was the 5th day, the sea which goes along with the idea that life came out of the sea, then onto land on the 6th day.

Ecclesiastes 3:

18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
