"Let This Cup Pass from Me..." What Did Jesus Mean?

Greetings,

may I say,
the question in question was related to the rest of that narrative.
Look again at the whole part and see.
Where were the disciples and what were they doing?

We often repeat the words so far written on this thread because that is the acceptable way to do it, but look again and see the relationship between the disciples, the Lord, His praying and the cup.

Bless you ....><>

In Mark 14: 33-34
He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed. He told them, "My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.

In Luke 22:15-18
Jesus said, " I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won't eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God. Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said "Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come."

When I read Mark 14:33-34, I found it so beautiful that Jesus was suffering so much that he wanted to die, but even then he asked to carry out only Gods will. The cup was the weight of all our sins, the weight of the world, and he was human (the son of man), he made a choice to bare them for us, even though he could have easily chosen not to. While all of his disciple were sleeping, he stayed awake and prayed to his father, not just about what he wanted, but when in the most dire pain about what God wanted. Amen!

What about Luke 22:15-18, does it relate with 22:42, and if so...how?

The cup itself was the container (Jesus), the contents being the wrath of God poured out against sin. Jesus drank it all in for us. Not one of us could have dealt with just our own part in the sin of the world. God allowed Jesus to it pour out upon himself, the whole of sin sentence against believers, allowing Jesus to fill the cup with his own blood of propitiation, pouring it out against the sin of the world. The Father accepted it.

There is no way that we can come close to understanding how he suffered for us!
About the "Why has thou forsaken me" verse. I actually believe that it was God's plan to back away from Jesus on the cross so he could complete the sacrifice alone.
I believe that Jesus missed his divine presence while he completed his mission!.....a more perfect sacrifice!

Well yea think about it for a moment. Jesus had to give up the spirit of God for a time in order to take on ALL SIN past, present and future of the world. He would not have been able to go into hell and fulfil Gods plan if they saw Gods spirit coming. The word tells us that all demons and principalities and evil was there. They surrounded Him thinking they had this man beat. But Oh out of Heaven comes this shout, this awesome wonderful voice as saying enough and the spirit of God was back in Jesus.

Now Jesus rises up and is a new man, a new creation, a born again man of God and He went to work. Jesus defeated satan and his bunch and took back the keys of death and then paraded them defeated foes around hell as the saints of past watched cheering.
You have to remember that NO MAN had ever done this before, that is go to hell and get out. However we can glory in the trust and faith and love for the Father and us that was in the heart of Jesus for He said This is the reason I was born.....to fulfil this new covenant between man and God....Ohhhh Thank YOU Jesus !!

He is my life and my desire and the reason I live Praise God
Blessings in Christ

Amen, as long a you repent of sin, turn from it like Jesus did and required. That's the most of what Jesus preached we must do.

The forgotten message of the church. Many will argue with you about that on here.

That is only the iceing on the cake. Jesus taught us how to live in victory and how to live life more abundant and how to over come evil and how to walk in the blessing of the Lord and so much more....
