Hi,

I was asked at the weekend if 2 Peter 3:8 meant that satan would be locked up for a day and would the millenium be a day also. The answer is obviously 'no' but I couldn't find the right scripture to explain my response.

Hoping you can help.

I am not too sure if your "obvious no" here is correct. I think that depends on if you are talking spiritually or physically!

This is definitely happening during the end days. I am not sure about the satan part except that he is chained up during this time, the Milenium (Christ reign on earth for a 1000 years). This time of Christ's reign will be quite an unusual time, a mixture of both the physical and the spiritual realms. As best as I understand it, Christ ( Spiritually in His resurrected form) will be ruling over a physical world.

Peter's reference to time is a relationship to time in a spiritual and physical since.

Real time , as we know it, does not exist in the spiritual realm. Thus, with the Lord one day for him is as a 1000 years for us or a 1000 years for us is as one day for him so, the relativity of time is different between the physical and spiritual worlds.

In that context, to satan, it is very likely that he will only be locked up what is equivalent to one day in the spiritual realm.

I know of no other verse that explains this further!

Thanks RJ, it's a thousand years 'our time' in the physical sense and a day in the spiritual sense....that makes sense, thanks for that!

I think even the 1000 years is relative, it might as well be a million.

Jesus said that he is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I believe he meant that he was not one and will be the other but, that he is at both the beginning and the end at the same time, such is the Spiritual World and such is Physics, which God invented before we did!

Yes it's all 'beyond my ken' that's for sure. All I know is to trust Him and look forward to seeing Him as He really is...and just to think we will have new bodies and be like Him..awesome thought. :)

Wow, I never thought of that. You say there is a spiritual side and a physical side. Is that because we will have spiritual bodies during this time? Because the Rapture of the Church will already have happened, and so the physical side would maybe be those who are still on the earth who didn't go up in the Rapture. I'm pretty confused I guess. lol

Maybe the millinium will be in Heaven and not even on earth. But I thought satan would be released after the 1000 years to test the nations, which would be those on earth. If we have spiritual bodies, we can't produce children during that time, right? So it wouldn't be to give children born during that period a chance to chose between God and satan like I thought. Hope I'm not too confusing.

Well, if you are not a true study of "end-times" it is confusing; I am not so I join that club with you. Here are some things as I understand it:

Chronological order of the "End of Times"

1) The End of the "Church" Time Period (the present and short term future, ending with the rapture, unknown duration)
The bible says that this present age will end with the "rapture" or carrying away to heaven, of all who believe in Jesus (the Church). We do not know when, but Jesus will come down personally into the air, and by his power take all His born again followers off the earth to be with Himself forever, and it will all happen in a moment (I Corinthians 15:51-52, I Thessalonians 4:15-17).

2) The "Tribulation" Period (7 years of judgement by God, ending with the Lord coming to set up His kingdom on earth)
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />This tribulation period is split into two parts, each 3.5 years (see Daniel 7:25, 9:27, 12:7-12, Revelation 11:2-3, 12:6, and 13:5). The Lord refers to the first half as the "beginning of sorrows" in Matthew 24:5-8 during which there will be wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places, corresponding to the 1st four seal judgements of Revelation 6:1-8. The born again Jews (believing in Jesus) are persecuted in all nations (5th seal of Revelation 6:9-11), and there will be a breakdown of relationships, anarchy, the love of most will grow cold (6th seal of Revelation 6:12), but yet the gospel of the kingdom will be preached all over the world, calling for sinners to repent and get ready for the coming of Christ and His kingdom (Matthew 24:9-14).

3) The "Millenium" (1000 year reign of Christ on the earth)
]The Millenium, as the name implies, is a 1,000 year period of peace and blessing centering in Israel and flowing out to all nations (Revelation 20:1-7). It is during this time that all the blessings promised to Israel since the time of Abraham will be completely fulfilled. They will have all of their promised land, which they have never yet completely possessed. Ancient curses, resulting from sin, laid upon the earth and humanity will be lifted: the desert will blosom as a rose (Isaiah 35:1-2); animals will no longer prey on each other and humans and animals will no longer fear each other (Isaiah 11:5-8, 65:25); weapons will be turned into agricultural tools (Isaiah 2:4, Micah 4:3); men will not die, except in the case of open sin (Isaiah 65:20). It will be a joyous time- the Church and those killed for Jesus' sake reigning with Christ; Israel the center of blessing on the earth; all nations blessed by the presence of the great and glorius King, Jesus Christ.

4) The "Little Season" (Satan's last attempt to have his way, unknown short term duration)

5) The "Eternal State" (all created beings will be in one of two places forever: the new heavens and new earth, or the lake of fire)3]

So, during Christ's 1000 year reign, I guess since we are in Christ and have already been raised or raptured in the "blink of an eye", we will going around in our resurrected bodies, just like Christ demonstrated to the Apostles before his ascention. This will happen on physical earth with humans still in their fully physical state. The Bible, as far as I know, does not go into detail how this happens and it is all a bit confusing.
I do think that the Bible does reveal that we will have a resurrected body just like Christ and the Bible does indicated Christ's ability to move between the spiritual realm and physical realm at will. It is reasonable, therefore, that we will be doing the same.....Another one of God's truly wonderful mysteries. That to me is what heaven is all about, realizing and understanding all of God's mysteries and the wonderful things he has in store for us!

One day, Two day.........

Peter's reference was not in terms of God having some Spiritual thing as a day being a 1,000 years...

The Word was sent to us!! and The time is for us.

Peter was talking about the last days... There are scoffers who ask where is his coming, things just continue as before....

This is what many are saying before tribulation. Nobody will be saying this during the tribulation as it's a time on earth we have never seen or experienced. A very terrible time of God's Judgment on Earth.

So, the 1,000 years is as one day, is a reference for us. It's Peter's answer to the question.... Where is the Lord?? Things continue as before.

Act 2:17
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Compare:

Joe 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Joe 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
Joe 2:30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, (Release of the 6th seal) and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Part of the sign of the end, is the operation of the Anointing of God. The rain so to speak. It also helps us find Peter's meaning to the 1,000 years is as a day for the last days.

Hos 6:2
After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Hos 6:3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

Jesus comes back to the Earth...

So............

Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Jesus promised to come back for us.... We escape the wrath of God during the tribulation as RJ has stated...

2 days = 2,000 years.................. from the time Jesus said he is coming back... and after he went and sent the Holy Spirit.. The Spirit of Truth..

On the 3rd day...... or end of the 2,000 years, we shall be with him.. for 1,000 years on Earth.

RJ
I think even the 1000 years is relative, it might as well be a million.

It is Relative if you know where it's at, and Peter's Key to the Last days...

We are past the 2,000 years.......
We are on the time of Grace... For Peter said, God is not slack..... but...

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Grace.........

Tick Tock....... We are out of time....

I really do not know what you are trying to say to me?

Let's start with this: Do you beleive that Jesus Christ will reign on earth for a 1000 years or not?

I posted.

Sorry if that was hard to follow..

I wrote this:

Which means I found nothing worth mentioning ....

The only thing I would mention is your take on the Begging of Sorrows..
Not being part of the Seven year defined tribulation period.
The begging of Sorrows is a set up for the seven years, to get everything in place as God only has seven years to accomplish what he sets to do...

When the Tribulation does began, The Son of perdition (Antichrist) will have 3 1/2 years to set up with Israel and in 3 1/2 years declare himself as god. For him to be revealed, we must be removed..

The only thing I broke down was Peter's 1,000 years as a day.. and saw no issue worth mentioning but what the original OP said.

O.K.. I am not sure where you got that and I am still having a hard time follwing you? This is what I said in my thread to HoneyBare:

I am not sure what an OP is but I do know this or this is what I understand:

In the Spiritual Realm, there is no time and space as we know it, it is a common property of Physics. Physics is something we discovered that which God already created. Therefore, Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega at the very same time; he can be at the beginning and the end and anywhere in between at the same time. In 2 Pe 3:8, Peter reminds us of this phenomenum of time between us and God. In respect to God's total relativity to time, the 1000 yrs. / 1 day analogy is crude at best; it might as well be a million of our years to his one day because God totally transcends time and space!

I think the discussion is of importance and so did Peter as he is telling us and the people of that day to be paitent. We might get tired of waiting year after year for what seems forever but, to God our 1000 years is as a day, that it is his timing not ours.

My original reply was to Green Frog's post and question of wether satin was locked up for a day or 1000 years. My answer was that satan, being a spiritual being and having the same relativity to time as God, he could very well only be chained for a day in the spiritual sense.

Thank you.

OP in a Forums setting means....... "Original Poster" It's just a term used because Post often go way off the original subject.

Peter's Comments where about the end days.... While we like to think of God "Outside" of time or God not really considering time as we do, that is not the case... God has a time frame, and he gave us that time frame. God was very specific about all times, and even was the one that invented time... Sun up and down for example God called a day... that is a specific time.. God also had done things in order so that we as humans can compare a Orderly God... in 3's, 7's, 40's.............

2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Peter's one day is a thousand years and that day is as a thief in the night... The Thousand year reference is not how God looks at time, but a specific time Given by the Holy Spirit to determine the Day of the Lord...

The day of the Lord represents the End times... and that day starts as the Lord comes as a thief in the night..

1Th 5:2
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

That is the 1,000 years as a day reference, it happens at that time frame....

Hos 6:2 After two days (2,000 years) will he revive us: in the third day (1,000 years left) he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Hos 6:3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

2,000 years or 2 days after the cross, He comes back to get us... on the 3 day or last 1,000 years we live with him (1,000 years with Satan bound, with Jesus)

All this stuff about God Transends time and space, lives outside of time, God's time not our own time, is not backed by scripture and just confuses things... God was here at the start Alpha and will always be Omega..... That is as deep as we need to go.

God's time is our time, because God invented time.... God invented days and nights, and God was very specific about when events will occur...

I gave the scripture, and Key Scripture to Unlock what Peter was telling us about the Day of the Lord, and the end times. It's 2,000 years After Jesus promised to return to get us.. 1,000 years with him on Earth..

We are out of time...

Respectfully, you margialize the difference between the physical and the spiritual realm, in doing so, seem to make them similar regarding time. With respect to time in the physical world and in the spiritual world there totally different; of course, not for our Ominipotent God, for he truly transcends time physical or spiritual time.

Yes Peter is talking about the end times and, it is just as clear to me that he is telling us that, in our physical time, we wait and wait impaitently for his return. Peter is reminding us, not to be impaitent. He is telling us in 2 Pe 3:8, that as we are anxiously waiting for what seems like forever, our 1000 years is as to God only one day so, in his timing, it is no more than a day and he will be back very soon, according to him.

The OP on this was whether satin was chained up for 1000 years or a day? My answer was from a prespective of satin and, since he is spirit, he could very well, to him, only be locked up for a day. According to the Bible and our physical world, he is of course chained for millenium.

None of us can possibly get this all 100% right but, one thing we can always agree to is that Jesus Christ is Lord and King!

Thank you RJ

Thank you RJ......... There is no distance in the Realm of the Spirit, and we certainly would have no concept of Time unless God invented it.

I don't dispute that time is different in the realm of the spirit, and certainly have no scripture to prove that it's not the same also... It's just our concept of trying to explain things not seen..

I do know the realm of the spirit is very active.

Be blessed..

Jesus Is Lord.

Thanks RJ, it's a thousand years 'our time' in the physical sense and a day in the spiritual sense....that makes sense, thanks for that!

Greenfrog,

I apologize for allowing your OP to get a bit off track, I hope your original question was still answered.

We should not forget the possibility that scripture shows pictures of patterns and cycles, and cycles of patterns and patterns of cycles.
Scripture could also apply on a personal level and then to an intermediate(family, city, denomination) level and also a Bride of Christ level and on a world level.

It is possible that one can personally experience and/or fulfill end time scripture before the world does.Jesus came to fulfill scripture and we are called to follow him.

I would like to add that Jesus "is" the "day".He is the last day,the end of linear time.We have been guided by star and moonlight for thousands of years.Lucifer was the son of the morning,a mix of the coming true light of the "day"and the lucid light that appears so shiny at night.

Zeph. 1:18
Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord's wrath. In the fire of his jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth."

Many verses like Zeph. 1:18 don't fit well in a any end time theory. However if I think of my carnal mindset as earthly and I live being dominated by my view of the earth(in contrast to God,s word) then it is possible to fulfill this scripture personally by being totally filled with The Holy Spirit.
So as far as I see Zeph. 1:18 could saying the same thing as:
2 Cor. 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
